Ferrari to use F2005 in Bahrain part 1

Ferrari to use F2005 in Bahrain
According to GrandPrix.com. Right now, they're only 16 points behind Renault in the Constructors championship, a gap that would certainly get larger with continued use of the F2004. But, Ross Brawn is on record as having reliability concerns with the new car.

T'will be interesting.

Thats crazy. It can't be worth getting tha much material across Europe with such a short amount of time. From what everyone is saying is that its not the car thats the problem, its the tires.
gtguy 03-24-2005 09:54 AM

Yep. And Bridgestone is promising some new mojo for Bahrain, which should also be a hot race that will favor the Michelin runners. I'm glad for Alonso, but Briatore is a nerdwad. And his preening and crowing are annoying. For that reason alone I hope the other teams come along and beat the pants off Renault.

The logistics are going to be a nightmare. The other problem is practice time...how much on a new, still-unproven car? Hmmm... On the up side, Ferrari's actions smack of crisis mode. I think the real test of a championship side is what they do when the chips are down. Anyone can be a frontrunner, after all.

Ferrari has 3 test drivers, the car has been in testing for a while now. If they are still having reliability problems, then thats racing luck stricking once again.... finally.
Leonardo 03-24-2005 11:00 AM

As long as they don't use the RE92's again, they'll be fine.

Barrichello had to shorten his race-distance test because of an undisclosed "engine problem," whatever that means. So yes, they might still be having problems. This is the value of winter testing, and having the new car ready for the pre-season wars, I think.

I like Fisichella and Alonso as drivers but, similarly to Kevin, I absolutely hate Flav. Therefore I would like to see Renault get knocked off their crown, maybe by someone new like say Toyota  . If Ralf (who I am a big fan of, which is a minority opinion) can get his act together I can see Toyota being a serious contender this year. I also hope for good things at BMW Williams and for Kimi at McLaren.

Jon

EDIT: Unless Bridgestone pulls their thumb out of their posterior orifice Ferrari is going to be hurting all year. Looks like they might need to find something that makes the Michelin's illegal, like they did when they were getting waxed in 2003.
Osgood30 03-24-2005 12:28 PM

I am a big Ferrari fan, since Berger days (no need for band wagon comments)

But this is actually exciting to see them have to worry about other teams not, to put it lightly.
BryanH 03-24-2005 12:43 PM

I am just happy to have some real racing finally going on and not just Schmui lapping everyone else.

It looks like it could be a very good season! Its nice to see other cars running upfront :)

Isn't Sauber their test bed for their new engine?
TimStevens 03-24-2005 02:38 PM

Whoops, just posted this in the malay thread.

Anyway, going to be interesting to see if Ferrari can pull this off.
artkevin 03-24-2005 03:17 PM
Isn't Sauber their test bed for their new engine?
Yeah, the engine itself should be fine. Its more the plmbing, heat and set up that they are probably worrying about. It took Mclaren almost 2 years to get their MP4-18 a/b/-19-20 to work right.
BillT 03-24-2005 04:02 PM

That's my problem with Renault too...I like their drivers and think the car is beautiful, but I just can't stand Briatore especially after how he treated Trulli last year.
grandpa rex 03-24-2005 04:22 PM

Ferrari has been testing this car for a while, and while they would probably keep it home if they were winning with the F2004, it's probably ready enough.

The real problem is the tires. I'm betting a Shaquille sized Italian loafer is so far up Bridgestone's butt right now that someone can taste the shoe polish.

Think about this: Ferrari's been running the 2004 car and Red Bull is essentially running the 2004 Jaguar. Last year, the Ferrari was a good 2 sec per lap better than the Jag. This year they're lagging behind. I don't think that Spongebob Squarehead or Mr. Clean improved that much over the winter, nor have MS and Rubens gotten fat and sloppy.

Once Bridgestone realizes how bad shoe polish tastes, I think it'll be a different story.

About Flavio: he has a great eye for talent. He scooped Schumacher after his one race for Eddie Jordan and snatched Alonso after his year with Minardi.
artkevin 03-24-2005 04:29 PM

Grandpa,
RBR is running "this years" Jag. What the Jag would have been in 2005, not last year's. I think what this helps to prove is yes, MS is the best driver in the world but F1 is extemely full of talent right now. Given the right car, almost any of the 20 drivers is capable of winning.
Spongebob Square head? I think I like it. I also like Matchetts comment on how he looks like a Thunderbird.

Brilliant!
Bonzo 03-24-2005 05:11 PM

These first two races were all a ploy by Ferrari to let the FIA and the other teams think the season is going to exciting and that they have a chance.

Now arrives the new car, some new rubber and the Red ride returns to go virtually one and two the rest of the season.

Plus a change
Plus c'est la meme chose

Just a thought...:D

Didn't Briatore get some supermodel pregnant?
About Flavio: he has a great eye for talent. He scooped Schumacher after his one race for Eddie Jordan and snatched Alonso after his year with Minardi.
Alonso was already a Renault development driver, they placed him in the seat at Minardi to see how he would perform. Michael Schumacher was put into the Benetton by Bernie Ecclestone to bolster the German market, which hadn't been truly cracked before Michael. Don't give douchebag Flav credit for either of these "discoveries". Team principles rarely do their own talent scouting, they just reap the benefits when it goes well.

Also in the "this just in" department, apparently Red Bull were very happy with Scott Speed's test this week. They've said that if/when they do their retarded driver rotation, Speed will become their third driver! On one hand I think rotating drivers as they're planning is a dumb move, but on the other hand if it gives Scott a chance... maybe not so bad?

Yeah, we saw heidi and Seal at a mall here in cally, and speaking of seal, we saw his ex tatjana patitz a the airport yesterday.

Renault not sweating the early arrival of the F2005..
Ferrari's decision to draft their F2005 into action in time for the Bahrain Grand Prix has been welcomed by their current chief rival Renault, with the French manufacturer admitting they are relishing the chance of seeing how the R25 fares against the reigning World Champions' new challenger.

Renault have fulfilled pre-season expectations that their new car is the class of the field, after winning both of the opening Grands Prix of the season and, although World Championship leader Fernando Alonso declared it vital that the outfit scored as many points as possible while Ferrari were on the backfoot, Renault are eager to compare themselves to Ferrari's new machine.

Speaking after another good week of testing for Renault, with test drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Franck Montagny on duty at Paul Ricard, the team's chief test engineer Christian Silk told autosport-atlas: "Our car will work very well in Bahrain and the new Ferrari will come - which will be great.

"I would think that they will be very fast, which was why it was a pity that we only got one car to the finish in the last race. We needed points finishes while we could get them - and we were capable of having a 1-2 finish or a 1-3 finish in Malaysia."

Silk also expressed his delight at the R25 car and the way in which his test team can work with it. "We have done our homework and, touch wood, there is no weakness in the car at the moment," he said. "Every area on a car has to work for it to be good and we have improved in so many areas on both the chassis and engine. It is truly good in all areas now.

"Also I think we have got the strongest drivers line-up at the moment and they are also very happy with the car. We cannot deny the fact that the R24 was difficult to drive last year, and both Franck and Heikki have confirmed that too."

Alonso and Fisichella currently lead the Drivers' World Championship standings, with Renault comfortably clear at the head of the Constructors' Championship.
SolbergWRCfan 03-26-2005 11:52 AM

I don't think anyone needs to fear the F2005 until Bridgestone pulls their thumb out of their ass. It isn't the chassis, I have no doubt the F2004M would be a race winner on Michelins. I am looking forward to seeing how well Toyota continues to perform, Ralf needs to step up though, he has done nothing to validate his $18 million salary IMO, and I am one of his biggest fans. It will also be interesting to see if Kimi can get some luck with his speed, he has been destroying Montoya comprehensively pace wise, he has just was a bit ragged at Australia, and had horrid luck in Malaysia. Also, quick Nick is finally showing doubters wrong, I would love to see him beat Webber.

Jon
Arnie 03-26-2005 02:28 PM

This certainly has been the most entertaining season for me in a long time. Its nice seeing the field shaking things up a bit. This is the sort of variety and uncertainty of outcome that F1 needs.

Montoya may not make Bahrain GP...
Juan Pablo Montoya may be forced to sit-out next weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix after injuring his shoulder playing tennis in Spain at the weekend, Autosport-Atlas can exclusively reveal.

The Colombian hurt his left shoulder while playing tennis with trainer Gerry Convey in Spain on Saturday. His McLaren team has confirmed that he suffered a hairline fracture of the shoulder with some tissue damage after slipping over.

Although the team has claimed a final decision about Montoya's participation will be made later this week, sources claim that Montoya has been advised to rest it for up to three weeks to avoid aggravating the injury. It means that he could miss the Bahrain event but should be back in the cockpit for the San Marino Grand Prix, on April 24th.

A team spokeswoman said: "We will make a final decision on Thursday." That means Montoya could still be forced to fly to Bahrain just in case he is fit enough to race.

It is understood that Montoya is undergoing medical tests today and further tests will be held tomorrow.

If Montoya misses the race it is almost certain McLaren reserve driver Pedro de la Rosa will be called into action to race for the team in Bahrain, after running on the Friday of Grand Prix meetings so far this year in the team's third car.

The difficulty for McLaren will then be in finding a replacement third driver, because fellow test driver Alexander Wurz is too tall to fit in the current version of the team's MP4-20 chassis.

The news of Montoya's accident has come after what has been a fairly disappointing start to the season for McLaren. Although their new car has shown itself to be both quick and reliable, niggling problems have managed to keep both Montoya and teammate Kimi Raikkonen off the podium so far this year.

Montoya's absence from Bahrain will ironically bring some good news to the Colombian, however, because it guarantees that he will not miss the birth of his first child, which is due within the next few weeks.
artkevin 03-27-2005 02:08 PM

Man, Wurz can't buy a chance.
Ferg 03-27-2005 02:44 PM

Well I suppose being too tall to fit in a McLaren is better than being too fat to fit in a McLaren a la Mansell in 95... (was it 95?)

grandpa rex 03-28-2005 06:16 AM

I think that it was in 94 that Our Nige was too fat to fit into the McLaren

Good to see ol Pete Rose get a ride, though

This was from last week and I'm surprised no one put up an article about Scott Speed's good test. The driver rotation thing is way retarded.
TimStevens 03-31-2005 08:02 AM

I just heard of a conspiracy/rumor on the Speed boards... get yer tin foil hats on.

Supposedly Sauber is setting up JV to get the boot before the USGP. If so, they'll grab Klein from RedBull, who will then promote Liuzzi to the second race seat, leaving the Friday seat open... just in time for Scott Speed to jump in on the Friday before the USGP, leading to lots of people coming to the race, buying RedBull merchandise, and getting wired on the stuff.
Bonzo 03-31-2005 08:56 AM

^^^

And some people think big time professional racing is about man, machine and competition.

Not.
