front liscense plate off part 1

subeesteve25 11-14-2005 05:32 PM

front liscense plate off
I just took off my front liscense plate and it looks tight, I just thought you all should know. Very easy DIY exterior mod, all you need is a phillips screwdriver.
ricified 11-14-2005 05:42 PM

also illegal in some states. :)
pignoseWRX 11-14-2005 05:50 PM

illegal in his state...
and would you really call this a mod?! was this a modification when i screwed it on when the dmv mailed it to me? i hope this is a joke... in which case you should use the sarcasm font!
Blackboxracing 11-14-2005 05:53 PM

i had no front license plae on my e46 m3 for a year or so, piled up several hundred in tickets.

It is a very expensive mod
veightkiller 11-14-2005 08:41 PM

it looks clean alright but it's illegal
w0rx4me 11-14-2005 08:46 PM

Maybe somebody should mention this is illegal.
dvang 11-14-2005 08:47 PM

illegal here too ive never had a problem tho even if i was pulled over for something.. but i know peeps who get busted for it left and right..

all my cars never had a front plate on them
austenf740 11-14-2005 09:00 PM

It just gives the police a reason to pull you over.
dmb2427 11-14-2005 09:01 PM

glad i live in a state where front tags are not required
grannyshifter 11-14-2005 09:04 PM

i live in cali too and no front plate, never got pulled over cause of it. i got pulled over once for something else but the cop didn't even give me ***** on my plate.
Bishop 11-14-2005 09:09 PM
It just gives the police a reason to pull you over.
yup....
buzz367 11-14-2005 09:12 PM

im in cali and no-one gets in trouble out here for it if its a sick car and it looks retarded with it on (like my suby). when the aerodynamics matter on a good car the cops dont care. as long as you have a rear. my dad's porsche doesnt have it either he's never gotten busted either.
turbosporttsi 11-14-2005 11:43 PM

i fastened mine to my pass side visor. when alot of cops are around i can just flip it down. its legal......

i figure ill just keep it that way until i get a 25 dollar ticket.... it will be worth it. it does clean the front up alot.
volkl23 11-15-2005 12:59 AM

This thread sucks cocka. I hope it was a joke.
rally_on 11-15-2005 01:44 AM

i took the mod one more step and bondo-ed the holes + touch up paint...
Handsdown 11-15-2005 01:47 AM

live in a state that doesn't require one and then get a bumper that never had holes to begin with.
Carbon888 11-15-2005 03:16 AM

I popped my hood, very easy, gave access to my engine bay for unlimited modding
Handsdown 11-15-2005 08:49 AM

that's a pretty freaking huge generalization, bud. considering the amount of cops in CA... maybe you want to rethink your statement?

and where in cali do you live?
proletariandan 11-15-2005 12:11 PM

never been hassled here either...i wonder if i will once i get my ricecannon exhaust on the new car :D i'm probably gonna get an ultimaterice fake japanese front plate to fake them out ;)
bigworm 11-15-2005 03:46 PM

if you dont have one its just a reason to get pulled over then they can ask about other things and when they walk up they can see if there is anything that gives them probable cause to search your car like gauges so there might be modifies smog equipment stuff like that if your car is heavily modified and you dont know the police in your area id say stay away from stuff like dark tint, no front liscense plate and really loud exhaust. but thats just my 2 cents hopefully you know the cops in your area =)
buzz367 11-15-2005 06:51 PM
and where in cali do you live?
carlsbad (socal).

and ya ok maybe not nobody but none of my friends or my dads friends have had trouble. ungeneralized enough for ya?!
DrD 11-15-2005 06:56 PM

now, see, if you were in Carlsbad, NM, you'd be just fine (no front plates in NM)

interesting enough. i got my ticket on mira mesa blvd in my non lowered no exhaust havin gs*r about 5 years ago. drive around downtown SD or LA on a fri. or sat. night and sure enough you'll eventually get a ticket.
SoareS 11-15-2005 07:02 PM

all i have to say is wow lol

of course its possible. especially in downtown. but in an area where there are ferraris and porsches driving around that dont have a front liscense plates EVER (unless the owner is a dumbass) then the cops dont really care that much unless their having a shi**ty day and are in a bad mood.
xplcitcustmz 11-16-2005 04:07 AM

must of us here in alaska have em removed and we just went and bought some mini suction cups in the craft department at walmart and stuck it inside the passenger windshield
STi-JDM 11-16-2005 04:29 AM

I got one ticket already :(
IronMonkeyL255 11-16-2005 12:13 PM

I love not needing a front plate..... :)
j-wrx 11-16-2005 03:16 PM

I got a fix-it ticket for having no front plate last year (cost me $10). I was parallel parked when it happened, so it must have been a very bored cop to have seen it (the car in front of me was only 2' away).

Still don't have it on. If I get another one, that might convince me.

Not having the front plate improves aerodynamics yo! ;)
roxyaimee31 11-16-2005 03:22 PM
also illegal in some states. :)
Yep cops are real jerks sometimes about it here in Tx.

P.S.- No offense to cops at all.
jzsurfer5 11-16-2005 03:22 PM

I also live in (socal) in San Diego and have never had a problem not haveing a front plate on any car that I have owned.
KamiKaziBoarder 11-16-2005 04:01 PM

Totally illegal here. It'll get you pulled over faster than going 90mph in a 55.
9vapors 11-16-2005 04:17 PM

meh, I was home for a little over 1 week, and I got 2 tickets for no front license plate. Westchester NY, notorious front license plate nazis everywhere.
D-Speed 2.5 11-16-2005 04:20 PM

I haven't used a front plate here in CO for several years now. I have never been pulled over for it but I have gotten some parking tickets when I forgot to put the plate in the windshield. I think it is more of a parking violoation here (downtown streets) more than anything else.
nate.the.great 11-16-2005 06:19 PM

$50 here in Illinois. I already got one ticket while I was parked downtown. It's back on, but now with a smoked cover.
