Genuine Subaru Dog Guard for New Age Wagon (pics)

I just received my dog guard today and it fits perfect. It was a snap to install and is easily removable. Subaru part # F5510SE010 but is only available in the UK. Here's some pics.

I would also like to thank UKCobra for making this happen. Thanks again Mark :D . I owe you big time.

WagonRX 02-22-2002 01:30 AM

It's a dog guard. It keeps the dog from entering the cabin area.

It's the Mother In Law suite.

I need one, too. Where do we get one on the east coast? Hook us up with a contact, please. It looks much better than the junk here in the US.
WRBLUEWAGON 02-22-2002 10:55 AM

That's nice. To bad I have a tea cup toy. She rides in the center consel. But Nice anyway.

Please share!!! Dog Guard

I bought the WRX wagon for my dog.

I know - people tend to think I'm a bit over the edge when it comes to him. But, I was beyond tired of him in a sedan thinking he could drive or having his nose on the windshield.

Because I couldn't find a guard that fit nicely, I've been tethering him to the rear luggage hooks. Yes, I put him in a harness and then I've configured a strap with snap closures on it to go from the harness to the luggage hook.

I very much want one of these dog guards!

Please share how to obtain one....

Thank you!

Hey thats something new. Kinda cool.
WagonRX 02-23-2002 12:32 AM

I got my dog guard throught the help of UKCobra (Mark). He's from England and was able to buy it for me. He was home visiting his family and brought it back. I cannot stop saying how much i-club members help each other out. I'm sure everyone could get one from a Subaru dealer in the UK and have it shipped. I just wanted to post how it fits so other could get one. I got the part # from the UK Subaru web site. I think I also saw the part # on North Ursalia's web site. They have so many more accessories available there.
RidinLow 02-23-2002 01:16 AM

Damn, I've been waiting all this time for someone to get it... but it still looks like my cat could sneak right by the gap between the guard and the window. :(

Looks great for dogs though! :)
narcotix 02-23-2002 03:34 AM

Oh man,

Thats EXACTLY what we need for our pooch!!! Anyone have any contacts for the UK? Who are the vendors that get stuff from the UK....Vivid?

help - cannot locate

Considering that I located a sold-out, limited edition motorcar print through the internet, I figured a dog guard would be no problem. NOT!

I've been searching for dealers in the UK that at least list something about parts & accessories, costs, if they'll ship to the U.S., etc.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

hahahahaaha thats great.

by the way, thats pretty cool. how much did it cost ya?
WRX Bamboo Steamer 02-23-2002 11:16 PM

Will it work for monkeys? Could be just the thing to retrofit a trunk monkey.
WagonRX 02-24-2002 02:19 AM

As far as Subaru dealers in the UK. I'd talk to Jim Childs @ Cheam Motors www.cheammotors.co.uk. He will ship to us in the states. I think he has hooked up a few i-clubbers for other items.
lakesuperior 02-24-2002 10:03 AM

thank you

Much thanks for the lead on Cheam in the U.K.! I just posted an inquiry to them.

I also wrote SoA, for what it is worth, indicating that it is a shame parts and accessories for the WRX available elsewhere still are not available in the States. I'm quite disappointed that even local dealers agree but haven't been able to influence anyone.

If I have the opportunity to meet with any Subaru representatives while organizing and working SCCA Performance rallys, I'll be sure to express my displeasure.

Hey Thats a cool mod. What kinda dog do you have?
I have a labrador, I dont think he'd like it if he were confined to the back.
But cool idea for a smaller dog.
lakesuperior 02-25-2002 08:45 AM

dog in the back

Golden Retriever - pure bred, huge head and muscular about 80 pounds. Excellent pedigree - wish I could've received frequent flyer miles on him since he came from the West Coast to me in Michigan.

In my old Passat, he thought he could climb into the driver's seat while I was going down the road. When not doing that he had his nose on the windshield & thought it was fun to hit rearview mirror. He was a complete vision obstruction. All of this occurred while he wore a harness connected to the seat belt.

With front air bags, it's bad news for a dog in the front seat. I tried restraining him to the rear seat and it was horrible. He started destroying the car and he would twist himself into a knot and then cry. I tried to wait it out with him, but my car meant too much to me.

So, I started looking for something that would allow him to be restrained to the back, yet still have cargo room for me & all of my stuff (rescue turnout gear, EMS bag, winter supplies, et al). I also wanted a vehicle that didn't slop around while cornering & something AWD or 4x4.

The dog fits just perfect with ability to turn around in the back with the seats up. When the seats are down, it's playville even while tethered to the luggage hooks.

Now, the next modifications must be figuring out where & how to install a siren speaker, and emergency lights. Suppose there aren't too many of those mods out there, either.

cool

Hey thats about the size of my dog. Havent put him in the back yet, but I'm glad to hear he would fit.
Luckily, my dog stays put where I leave him. He just sleeps in the car anyway. Its like driving by myself. I already did a crosscountry trip with him in my old jetta(glad to have gotten rid of that POS), and he slept the whole time.

Has anyone seen a net that blocks off the main cabin from the hatch section?
Here's a picture for a VW GTI
WagonRX 02-26-2002 02:40 AM

I got three dogs. A Rat terrier, Basenji-Corgi, and I think Manchester Terrier.

I tried the net type but the little rascals could slip by it. Here'a a link :

KwanDDS-

Why did you steal my dog. That's a picture of my Jake. He's 15 months old and weights 74 lbs. He fits perfect in the back of my TS. I just want the dog guard to protect both of us incase I hit something. Nothing worse than a 74 lbs projectile hitting you in the back of the head or going thru your windshield. Plus I want to protect him.

Thanks. He's 3 yrs old, but still thinks he's a pup.
I dont think I'll need a net. He's pretty well trained. I just thought it looked cool.
Jejunum 03-07-2002 10:20 PM

my dog doesnt move around or need to be restrained (well accept for safety reasons)
but i need to find a way to protect the upholestry in my new car!@

If you contact Graham Goode in the U.K. they should be able to get it for you especially since WagonRX posted the part number.

found in UK - WOW! shipping $

Cheam will send the guard to the US for something around $140, but shipping is at least $100.

If anyone knows how to get this to Michigan for less, please post. Ohh - but I'd rather not wait 6 months for it....

bugnutty 04-07-2002 03:58 PM

graham, are you out there? i need to get my hands on one ASAP. my dog is getting worn out running along side the car all the time. ;)
Vineet Singh 04-08-2002 02:57 AM

No Dogs or Dog hair in my WRX Sedan... that's what DSM's are for :)

(Laser looks like a dog kennel, I got two of them... they love to chew on seatbelts, slobber on armrest (yuck), and "dig" into the carpeting in the rear to get to the spare :) )

Dog guard petition

Alright, so how many people NEED this. I do. Can we get a petition together with names and numbers? I would love to submit this to SOA and even inquire about buying a bunch from Subaru UK. Please only reply if you absolutley, positively going to order. As mentioned one Subaru UK dealer is selling them for $140 + $100 shipping. I would hope we could do this for $200 even. Post below and we can get this thing rolling. While I'm at it, I'll also bitch about the UK getting the stainless steel cargo door plate instead of our ugly resin piece of crap.
lakesuperior 09-13-2002 08:03 PM

Count me in!

I still want a dog guard for shipping less than $100!

I wrote SOA about one month after purchasing the wagon regarding how inept their local dealer was about accessories and why on earth don't they offer the accessories here like elsewhere.

Guess what?!

SOA wrote me back! They said they don't make a dog guard for the WRX wagon. I said - ummmmm, check the UK. They have a genuine Subaru dog guard for the UK. I know because I contacted a dealer over there.

No further words from SOA about this...

Pathetic, I say.

I can't believe they actually made a hole for the center seatbelt. Has anyone ever used the center seatbelt? Not me, I unclipped it and left it back in the cargo area.

Cool product though, but with me driving my dog would constantly be getting pinned to the rear window. I doubt he would get a chance to jump the seat before I slammed the gas again!

(Message for dog lovers: No dogs were actually harmed in the cargo area of my car, this is only a joke.)

i hate dogs. im more of a cat person myself :D
wr wagon 10-06-2002 04:55 AM

Does Subaru of Canada offer this dog barrier? That would be MUCH cheaper shipping-wise. Plus, with the relative strength of the dollar, it might even be cheaper... I tried to look at the official Subaru Canada site, but I cannot get it to laod properly on my computer.

I would also gladly take part in a group buy if a US vendor wants to get one together...or sign the petition to make these parts (and the splashguards) available here in the US.
bragginwagon 10-06-2002 08:18 AM

go to cheammotors.com

look up jim childs on their website.
i purchased the dog early this year (and the mudgaurds).

here's the breakdown:

Part # sacc1423 Front Mudguards 45.28
sacc1424 Rear Mudguards 45.28
f5510se010 Dog Gate 97.83
shipping to usa 60.00

i've mentioned this before - jim is easy to work with and he double checks everything via phone to make sure you get what your looking for - would suck if you have to return something overseas...

hope this helps.
Rocket Wagon 10-06-2002 09:52 AM

Do you have a picture of these mudguards I hear so much about?
