Guys with Front lips: do you scrape much?

i come from a background of driving a lowered honda civic Si with only the stock front lip, and i really scraped on a good amout of things. do you guys scrape much during normal driving? (by normal i mean normal sized speed bumps, pot holes, entrys to parking lots, NOT huge speed bumps, or getting in and out of steep driveways) if so (or if not) post your lip/suspension setup.

H&R Springs and now Prodrive springs - My OEM lip has scraped at least a handful of times going into steep driveways (at an angle too). The OEM lip is one of the more subtle ones for the WRX and with my P-springs (one of the less aggressive ones) I was still VERY cautious with going into steep driveways, speed bumps, and such.

Hotchkis springs (1 1/2 lower in frt) and greaddy frt lip. I would scrap things all the time. One very cold day it shattered. Soon the have spec c suspension (3/4'' lower in frt) and cf v-limited spoiler. I hope this will be better. Can't keep replacing spoilers. Too expensive!

Had Prodrive springs and a full front bumper cover replacement (someone told me 'chargespeed').
I now have reverted to stock springs and have clear plastic tape holding my front end together. Sucks...the car looked (past tense) nice but it was no good for actual driving, lol.
I haven't decided what to do. I may try with the fiberglass repair kit and see what I can do, or I might even try to cleanly cut away the lowest portion. Even with the stock springs I hit a curb recently, although I can now get into my driveway, which I couldn't with the lowered Prodrives.

i'm on Stechs (2" drop) with a Jun front bumper and i seriously scrape on a lot of things. i wouldn't worry about it but it's not like you can drive it normally up/down immediate inclines.

Tein Flex, formerly KYB AGX on Tein H-Techs with a Kaminari front lip with 1 piece CF splitter and I scrape alot if I'm not careful. Around here we have real steep driveway entrances, it's horrible :(

with a set of Espelir springs and no lip I have yet to scrap on anything. I can just barely clear "normal" curbs when parking. One I get I lip I'll have to rethink my driving.

yeah that is something i have been trying to train my self on right now.
i like fooling around with electronics and i have been thinking about rigging up a little camera down on the lip to let me know how close i am to things like curbs and what not.
a totally frivleous addition, but would be fun to wire up none the less. :disco:

I am on stock suspension with no front lip and I have scraped a few times. I dunno what I would do if I had a lip. Sometimes theres only one way out...the scrape is inevitable.

im lowered on sprint springs (about a 2 in. drop) with the Greddy lip. It sits about 3.5 in. from the ground. I used to scrape a lot but ive learned how to drive better and ive only scraped maybe once in the last year. You just have to learn that there are some places you can't go. It sucks on a date when you have to park down the street from where your going because you cant get in the parking lot.

on my WRX, I had the greddy front lip TWICE! killed them
then got the uber strong and high profile prodrive lip(and best looking lip)

got a jdm spec-c suspension and jdm sti front lip - i scrape once in a while,.. i try to pull into raised driveways and stuff on an angle which helps but my left side is chewed up more than the right :p
| Vlad | 04-07-2005 09:47 AM |
Stock suspension, OEM lip, I have looked in astonisment how may times I got lucky, and cleared curb by just milimeters. I try to never nose-in too deep into parking spots, but the greatest enemy are concrete low-rise parking "stops".

i have been planning the exact same thing. get an in-dash dvd player or soemthing and hook up some camera on the bumper so i can see the parking blocks. I had my greddy for a day and cracked it. Just the other day i picked up a rock on the freeway and theres a big hole on the driver side now. so when i get money im gunna go for the C-west, shouldnt be as low. Im on Tein type flex, close to stock height.

hey for you guys out there who are running springs on stock shocks is the gap between your fender and tires, as small as mine? cuz i have seen a couple cars with springs and they have a lot more gap then me. If thats the case then i want to get new springs so i can have more clearance with my lip. the PICS are above on the link

02 wrx with Tein RA and Sti V1 lip.
I scope out every unknown territory to check for an escape route. We all know it's easy to get in a plaza with a steep incline, but *** difficult to get out.
if the plaza does not have a proper exit, I don't go at all or I'll park on the side of a street somewhere.
I also park far away from the curb when facing it, go over train tracks slowly, back out of my garage funny, and other misc habits just to keep my lip in good shape.
oh god im such a ricer, pls help

I've learned from experience never, ever buy a fiberglass lip. Always buy polyurethane. It has a hell of a lot more flex and won't crack either. Greddy makes a really nice one that retails for about $200 w/ s/h on ebay.

STi pinks and V Limited lip and it'd scrape A LOT if I didn't practically stop....I do alot of backroads driving and they tend to have weird angles/hills around here....

your absolutely right. Polyurethane doesnt seem to flex well at all. The greddy is so thin it will crack, and if you dont do something, it will only get worse until the entire lip is cracked and falling off.
to whomever offered the lip, i dont have money right now for it, but thanks for the offer.

I got a Greddy Front Lip, I dont scraped at all, but I am on stock springs. I am eventually going to get lowering springs. I was wondering though, if I measured the dostance from the bottom of the lip right now, and then measured it again with 17" wheels, would I be able to tell how much I could lower the car without scraping? How much higher will the WRX go with 17's? I know it sounds confusing, here is an example:
greddy lip, with stock springs, stock 16" wheels- 1st measurement
greddy lip, stock springs, 17" wheels- 2nd measurement
1st-2nd measurement = approx amount I can lower without scraping
Any thoughts?

The car with 17" rims would not be any higher than with 16" rims since the tire profile would be lower. You have to keep the same overall diameter to keep your speedo accurate.

So basically I would stay the same height? That sucks. I guess 0 springs for me :D

I'm on H&R coilovers (set pretty low I might add), with the Prodrive front lip. I never scrape, but the Prodrive lip is probably one of the most minimalistic lips out there that I know of.
One of my requirements for building this car was to be able to go over speedbumps head on without having to angle over it. I can do that with no problem, but again, the Prodrive lip isn't all that low...

Yup, you definitely won't change your ride height. Your ride must look awkward right now with a Greddy lip and a wheel gap that could eat up small children

I've replaced one of my corner splitters already on prodrive springs, and now need to replace them both again. Winter was brutal on them. Hit a curb, ran into one of those car stops at the front of a parking space, hit the ground when coming out of a parking lot, etc. I can never get a lip (especially because they are so $$$). The side splitters are getting abused enough!

I have S-Tech's w/ a V-Limited on my STi.It is VERY low...but I honestly have never scraped anything. The lip looks Brand new and I've had it for Months that way.It is almost as if it is the perfect height.Only about 4 or so inches off the ground...but I can go over speed bumps..in/out steep drivways (slightly sideways of course) w/ NO Problems! I was worried @ first but this is not the lowest car I've owned.
I just treat it right.Never park to close to parking blocks/Curbs....make sure to Not 4x4 style in and out of drivways..and rarley do I have to go sideways over speed bumps...and there is one in my Neighbor hood that is a mountain!
*I drop it off @ the Dealership however and WARN them about how low it is and to be careful 5-6 times...and they Ruined it.They are resolving the matter finally (after 4 days trying to make me pay half of it) and getting me a brand new one! That is all i can say @ this time.

i have the jdm 04 front lip (gruppe-s poly rep)and tein flexes, i have never scraped it except on an abnormally steep driveway that even my camry scrapes on. i have i steep ass driveway, clears no prob. you just have to learn how to drive a lowered car. here's a ref to how low i am:
