Judging by the amount of mesh that is on that STi, I'd have to say it's a custom job.

Haven't seen them... They look pretty good in the pics. Was it a DIY job?
| calib17a | 03-16-2005 08:49 PM |
Yeah, I got bored today. I found all the parts needed in my garage. $0 dollar mod.
| calib17a | 03-16-2005 08:52 PM |
Found scrap perforated aluminum, painted with left over pearl blue RC car paint. I used 3m double sided tape which is pretty strong, but may permanently mount with silicone.

I need to get STI template and some hot pink spray paint tomorrow.

04 sti covers taht have mesh for JDM fog lights
| Dreammaster2.5RS | 03-17-2005 04:04 PM |
did you make the entire thing or did you cut out a solid fog light cover? Looks nice
| calib17a | 03-17-2005 06:31 PM |
Thanks for the compliments. They were dinged up with rock chips and had them sitting around in the garage, so why not be able to use them again with my jdm fog lights. I still have the jdm surrounds if I want to change them back when I feel like.
Here's a brief how to:
I used a drafting compass with two sharp points to scribe 1/2" boarder using the inside edge on the back of the covers as a guidline. Just cut out the solid fog light cover first with an air saw, then smoothed out the edges with a fine file. I used perforated aluminum I had left over when I used to install custom car audio. Since there is already a 90 degree angle in the shape of the covers, I just lined up a 90 degree corner of the perforated aluminum and marked with a sharpie the other rounded shape of the cover. Then used tin snips to cut out the perf aluminum. Then test fitted it bending it to the curve of the covers and trimed off the access edges. I painted it again with Boyd pearl blue model paint and tomorrow I will spray the STI with Tamiya hot pink spray paint. I had my local vinyl decal shop make a reverse sticker for the stencil. Then I'll spray it all over again with a clear coat. As for attatching it behind the cover, I used 3m double sided molding tape. Make sure to clean off the surface before you apply the tape. I just cut off 1" sections and spread them evenly on the boarders behind the cover.

Sorry about the delay, the pics are up now. The paint I used didn't hold up that well. I will be revising these with a powdercoated version and stenciled in STi.

i'd buy that soooooo fast if you sold them
| RedlineWRX04 | 08-23-2005 06:46 PM |
I love them! I think in a couple weeks i will be doing the exact same thing. The only thing is i dont have the jdm foglights, i have the stock projectors. How much light output is sacrificed when doing this or is it not noticable at all?
| calib17a | 08-23-2005 09:13 PM |
I had used 3m tape to affix the screen to the back of the covers so it would have a cleaner look, as opposed to drilling holes and using allen bolts and nuts to hold the screen. The problem was the paint detatched from the aluminum screens with the 3m tape. The solution to this would be to have the screens sent out for powdercoating which would be a better way to adhere to the aluminum screens. I just haven't got around to doing it yet.

I was thinking, how do you clean the inside of the foglight? I live on a dirt road so i dont know if i want to do it now because there is really no way you can do it without taking the cover off every time you clean your car.

cover pops off w/a flathead screwdriver
really not all that difficult to remove.
