It's hot looking, but very pricey and the bumper needs to be chopped up. Very nice, very large picture here:

I am so getting that one day! I love it..
whiteGDB 11-24-2005 02:18 AM

You also have to remove your rear bumper beam or chop it up. I've had it for a coupke months now and it puts a smile on my face everytime I look at it, esspecially since I had to wait 12 weeks for it.
f1mania 11-24-2005 02:33 AM

Thanks! That was a nice photo!...hey white gdb or kursplat..do you have a photo?
NYEJ25 11-24-2005 01:31 PM

Whats the price on that thing? I'm in love!
bigworm 11-24-2005 03:01 PM

i love the look of that also but i dont like the space on either side of it at the bottom and i couldnt stand dpending $800 on something that rivets to the stock bumper. im working on a design for a built in diffuser as one whole peice as a new bumper cover im just waiting to get my sti bumper cover cause i dont feel like rolling around without a bumper.
mdelosrey 11-24-2005 03:28 PM

I've seen it somewhere else before but never noticed the part around the exhaust. it kinda follows the oval-ness of the exhaust. nice. but what if you have a different exhaust?
drpleiades 11-24-2005 04:25 PM

where can one pick up one of those bad boys, that would look great on my car
f1mania 11-24-2005 05:11 PM

okay after doing some research, gruppe-s.com has some but i dont know if they have them in stock. good luck! would really be nice if someone could post a close-up pic.....
bigworm 11-24-2005 05:24 PM

it comes blank so you have to make the cutout for the exhaust you have.

Interesting...the rear wiper. What model STi's have that?
volkl23 11-25-2005 04:38 AM

Do these diffusers actually do anything other than the bling factor? I'm sure it might help a little if you're going 10/10 on a track, but for everyday driving and an occasional weekend HPE, is it really worth the $$$?

For everyday driving? Probably a total waste of money. The diffuser will help to increase the aerodynamic profile of the back rear of your car, reducing drag slightly and increasing gas mileage. However, the exremely modest increase in gas mileage would not offset the upfront cost of the part.

However, for racing it would make sense. Decreased drag equals slight increase in speed (and if you go carbon fiber, it would probably offset nicely against the minor increase in weight). If you used to a lot of anti-drag parts on your car, you could probably get your coeffecient of drag down quite nicely.

Of course, I drive a wagon, so I'm not really expecting to get my CoD down appreciably anytime soon.

hahaha
Not necessary is the opposite of what this whole addiction is all about. I think it looks great and this is on my to do list. mad wicked cool

Agree with that. If you're into looks, this is a great piece because it not only looks cool, but it does have some performance benefits. However, for those of us that only a have a limited "play" budget for our cars, it's not likely to make daily driving much better compared to suspension/performance mods.

BTW, "busaru" handle is awesome.

it's the same as getting a GT wing or something. unless you race, it's pretty useless for everyday driving to the point that it will actually make a difference. this would be a purely cosmetic modification for the everyday driver. for the everyday racer, this would be VERY necessary.
busaru25 12-13-2005 03:08 PM

my sti wing makes a awesome picnic table- hows that for low speed function? My cusco front lip also works as a snowplow- weee, weee!(deliverance lst night-sorry)

I think the JDM STi came with it...

The HKS Kansai diffuser yields very little or no functinal benefit. I believe this for two reasons: first, I have it and have used it on the track and can discern no difference in high speed handling. Secondly (as explained to me by someone with a background in computational fluid dynamics and experience designing indy car aerodynamics), we would need a flat panel mounted in front of the diffuser in order to take advantage of the low pressure area created by the diffuser. So the bottom line is its just for looks, but it looks really good to me!

busaru25 12-13-2005 10:09 PM

So who makes this center section? I saw someone using dimples like a golf ball for the underpanel, on the G35 or Z. cool stuff
ewright 12-13-2005 11:22 PM

busaru,

as of right now, no one I know of makes a flat underpanel for the center of the STi. However, I know of a shop that is considering doing a totally flat undertray for me sometime early next year.

what is the fitment issue with this? will it fit an impreza that has the rear aftermarket skirts or the wings west rear skirt (talking about the 02-03 model).
ewright 12-14-2005 12:37 PM

cordizzle,

I dont believe it will fit with any aftermarket skirts
