new grill - leave it black or paint it?

Okay. Got my Zerosports (replica) grill today. Of course, I couldn't wait to see how it fit, so I put it on like it came out of the box. I kind of like the contrast of the black on the yellow car. But I'm not sure. What does everyone else think? Paint it or leave it black? Well, it will be painted one way or the other. If it stays black I'll have it painted black.

Sorry for the pic quality. As you can tell by the shadow, I was shooting into the sun, so you can't make out much of the grill.

Well, while I'd like to have a CF hood, my budget won't allow it. That's one of the reasons I got the replica grill instead of the actual one.
| WR xplosive | 03-21-2003 07:04 PM |
hey Cosmo, I was thinking of not painting it too. I haven't installed mine yet, but it looks like unpainted zero/sports grill will blend better with CF hood and/or UK300 headlights.
| Hank3 | 03-22-2003 12:29 AM |
I would DEFINITELY paint that...but that's only me. YOu pais for it and it's your car. If you like it keep it that way :)
| yuns555 | 03-22-2003 01:37 AM |
since you asked, paint it. it looks awkward.

| Cosmo | 03-22-2003 11:20 AM |
Well, I think I've decided to paint it. But, here's the problem. My local painter guy doesn't have the paint code for the paint. Does anyone know what it is?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! PLEASE PAINT IT! :D

Paint it black, and get some black wheels, tint, and a carbon fiber rear wing. Then it'd be sharp!

Well, in a perfect world, I'd do that. Actually, it's having the windows done as we speak. As for the wheels, well, if I didn't have an ex-wife, that might be a possibility......

Thanks! I found the code (13V). I dropped it off today. I should get it back Friday. I'll post updated pics when I get it installed.

Ah, good point. Then you have really no choice but to sell the ex-wife. :D

Paint that ... fast.... or like someone else mentioned, get a CF hood... or maybe paint the hood black... and maybe the trunk.... but that's a lot of paint... i'd do the grill in yellow.

with the zerosport grill, can you install just the middle piece, while leaving the stock side pieces. I like the stock pieces more than the ones provided that look vented.

I've got the STI/Liberal replica grill which is pretty much the same as the Zerosports but without the holes. I don't know that the wire mesh piece would completely cover the stock grill piece because it's a little shorter. These grills have a section that sits across the bottom of the grill (rests on front bumper) and the mesh piece is a pretty good fit for that, so might not completely fill the gap if you left out the front grill...
if i remember i'll try to do a quick eyeball comparison tomorrow

*UPDATE*
Got it back from the paint shop yesterday. Right now the paint on the grill is a little lighter than the car, but the guy that painted it assured me it would darken up in a few weeks. He works for the best paint shop in town.
The only thing I don't like is that you can see the factory bumper behind the bottom holes in the new grill. I think I'll put a piece of black vinyl or something on the factory bumper (or whatever is showing through) to make it look right.

Looks great man - tons better than it was before :) I hope the guy is right about the paint matching up eventually, because there is a slight color differentiation...

Well, I had thought about Morette lights, but I decided against them. I might do the headlight blackout thing, but I don't know yet. Next on the agenda is a set of springs and some wheels/tires. Then, hopefully, I'll be done for a while.
