I installed the Tein hood dampeners.. WELL worth the $$$.. SUPER DUPER easy to install.. take your time and it would take you 20 mins. No drilling, no rivets, Very easy
definately feel the car should've came with them on!

do the struts need some help (momentum) to lift the hood up?
| MD04WRX | 02-27-2005 01:49 AM |
Yes - they hold the hood up and make it easy to lift up, but the hood will
not lift up with out a little help.

Love mine as well. . .completely worth it for me as it makes working under the hood easier now and the hood is now supported on both sides instead of just one.

tein owners need to use both? i've heard/read that since wrx hoods are already so light, using both might flex the hood.
| JIN | 05-24-2005 10:25 PM |
Regardless of which ones you use, Tein, Vision, or even Prova, they all should be used as a pair. The hood will tend to sag to one side if its only supported on one side ... even if its on the actual hood prop.

I riveted in the red-lines, love them. Makes throwing the hood up at autocrosses simpler than before, that's how lazy I am .

I got redlines but I didnt have to do anything, everything came with the kit. It's a worthy mod for the $, definately something easy to put together too. Mine are Polished, I didnt really like the green on the teins.

those redlines may be worth it.
wonder if i can make em work on my GC with my JDM hood?

Hi all. Just an FYI...
there are two different redline struts. There's a cheap set (black) for $60, and a nicer set (silver for $110. There is a difference in waranties also.

Yeah Jamie, TEIN make them for the GC8 (they have it under GC6)
I know you said you hate the green, but i guess you can always paint them black or yellow to match your car.

i've had my teins for 5 months and they're great! just make sure to tell the dealership or someone that needs to open the hood about them! cause they surprise people when the hood goes up real quick....and tein green is sexy.

teh dampers look like a great item to have, but what's the real benefit?
does it prop up the hood higher than the stock arm? and are people just too lazy to open the (already light) hood and hold it with one hand while they grab the stock black arm and put it in the hole??

Opens the hood a bit farther than the prop rod. Makes it easier to open the hood. No having to work around the prop rod when doing work under your hood. Much much more stable in windy conditions. Ability to position hood at nearly any level you want for shows, etc.
Honestly, if you ask me, there's alot of benefit.

redlines +1 cause they are cheap and work perfectly. yea you have to drill a little and rivet but its no harders than usig a screwdriver or using a crimper for electrical wiring. plus at 60 bucks its affordable...

now that i've already installed the CF Provas, i'd say the only drawback is having to close the hood means you put a greassy handprint on it.

i just installed the teins on my MRO CF hood and i have to force it down in order to close the hood. This is obviously because the hood is lighter than stock. so basically think twice if you have a CF hood and want the TEINS.
