How does this look??? (Pix)

I wanted to be a little different and not get JDMs, so I got some transparent taillight smoking spray. It looked good on the Saabs I saw and the VWs, so why not mine??
What do you all think?

JC 04-04-2001 11:45 AM

Looks good. I was thinking of doing the same thing. Did you have to take the lights off?
BrysImpreza 04-04-2001 11:49 AM

Ya, I pulled them off to do it, bu you don't ahve to, it just saves you time and is like 3,000 times easier then taping up your whole rear end.
Thanx for the compliment!
bratmantlz 04-04-2001 11:51 AM

nice black RS [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img] any angled shots with different light? looks okay but a lil more detail would be nice.
2Point5RS 04-04-2001 11:52 AM

Looks tight on black, but I don't think it would look good on my SRP.

Is that a 2.2 litre decal I see?

What's up with that man?
JBK 04-04-2001 11:52 AM

looks like a 2.2 L to me......
chauncey 04-04-2001 01:06 PM

bratmantlz 04-04-2001 01:21 PM

back when my car was black, I did the same thing. I used testors smoke black transparent or something like that. I really like how it looked. I airbrushed it on and then baked it at like 250 deg for like an hour. Took a while, but when it was done it looked like they came that way. Its cool cuz you can wax it and stuff. Goes best on a black car imho. Good job man. Looks good.
Down623 04-04-2001 03:44 PM

looks strange, i was looking at it and, especially on the left, it almost looks like abox was put there, a black box, like a censor box on TV...like photoshop or something, but maybe its just the picture, the light reflecting or something
BrysImpreza 04-04-2001 03:59 PM

It's just my scanner, it's one of those $80 deals from Circuit City, it gets the job done, but everything comes out really dark no matter how I adjust it.
I'll have my digital camera by April 24th (MY 21ST B-DAY!!! SEND ME BEER!!!) So I'll put up some better / closer pix.

BrysImpreza 04-04-2001 04:11 PM

This is a side shot, The reason I did the back Red / Black was to eliminate the ambers and to match my Calipers (drums to be painted this weekend)
I'm also toying around the idea of painting some skirts, lip spoiler and spats red after I tint the windows.. Would that be too Ricey though?

andyC 04-04-2001 05:48 PM

Dude, you guys... before you do this....

Try it on contact paper!!!!! Then you can just stick it right onto whatever surface you want to change color...

Just a Hint... learned that one from Deepbeep.
JC 04-04-2001 06:38 PM

I paid $7 for some from Summit Racing. It's held up just fine.
BrysImpreza 04-05-2001 12:07 AM

Damn right, it's an L, with an RS Coupe wing, 99'RS Rims, etc.
Most people think it's a 98' RS with the Hoodscoop removed.
96Lconversion 04-05-2001 12:09 AM

We'll both be foolin them this summer bad boy, your tails look phaaaaaat, keep it up!!
2Point5RS 04-05-2001 12:14 AM

RS-LOVER 04-05-2001 12:20 AM

Looks cool on Black....Do they have other car colors? [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img] I would need blue ridge, I think it would look good matched.[img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
BrysImpreza 04-05-2001 12:26 AM

Here's a loooong shot from the meet, I'm all the way to the right, then 96LConversion, Herzy2.5RS's Brothers Legacy GT (no, it's not Pat Olsen!) and then Herzy2.5RS all the way to the left.
As for other paint colors, I've only seen Red and Black.

2Point5RS 04-05-2001 12:33 AM

When you say red, are you meaning..the taillight red, or SRP red?
BrysImpreza 04-05-2001 12:38 AM

Tailight Red, there is some spray stuff just like mine that does it red rather then black.
I got mine at a local speed shop, but this is a place to get it as well.

Hey 96LConversion, keep your car Green, Brett and I think it looks dope, especially when you do the scoop and bumper!!!

Thanx Subiegal!! I was hoping you were looking at my rear-end!

Who makes the spray, where did you get it from, and how much was it. That looks aweseom! Thats is what I've been wanting to do for a loong time. PM me with details.OK, saw the above post, next question is did you use 1 can or 2?

MichiganRS 05-09-2001 02:09 AM

The trick is nice thin coats and wait for each one to get tacky before you lay the next one on or else you will get drips realy easy. It usally takes a good 7-10 coats its basiclly a thinned down black. I have used model paint in a can called "window tint" sold for model cars of course but holds up well for tail lamps.
AWDrivin 05-09-2001 09:17 AM

Brys,

How hard was it to get the tails apart to paint them? I was toying with the idea of doing this with my stockers but haven't put the time aside. How did you do it?

CdB
herzy2.5RS 05-09-2001 07:19 PM

bry man, i didnt know you posted all this stuff on here without telling me. i guess its ok. i wish i had a pic of my my tail to put up here. every time i tint my tails darker and it looks good, then i need them darker. soon my whole tails will be as dark as your yellows on yours. oh well whatever, looks good dude !
TeamSUBARU 05-09-2001 07:54 PM

Spray on tint is illegal here in Washington State.

State Troopers here are meanies...oh well.
subieboy 05-09-2001 10:29 PM

that looks awsome and gives me some really good idea's....is that legal though?
BrysImpreza 05-09-2001 10:31 PM

Damn, I thought this topic died off months ago!
I pulled them out, took off the 5 bolts and pulled them out of the nasty goo, taped them up really well across the red and sprayed on about 3 layers over the amber and white stuff, and Viola! I've got cool tails and didn't drop $200 on JDMs!

Dre2932 05-09-2001 10:33 PM

DAMN! That looks sweet!
STiShawn 05-10-2001 06:40 AM

I did my corner lenses to compliment my Morrettes, they turned out awesome! Im doing my taililghts soon too. Need to find brighter bulbs though. 2 coats and they are black as black can be, the glow an erie red orange with the lights on...
Xscreamer 05-10-2001 09:07 AM

I did my taill lights black also... I used stain glass windo paint to tint them, then misted over it with black paint. The cool part was clear coating the entire light. Damn it looks nice and shiny.
