Husky Liners - Good investment

I really wanted to get some rubber floor mats for my WRX. I had some in my old L and loved it, cause I do a lot of skiing and camping, and I don't want my carpet getting gross.
A buddy of mine (does a lot of off-roading in his 4Runner) kept bugging me to get Husky Liners, but I didn't want to spend that much money when I could get a generic set of rubber mats at Shucks for like $10.
But, I bit the bullet and spent $60 shipped through a place called www.autopartswarehouse.com (cheapest I could find). That price is just for the fronts, I didn't get the back (I'll use the Subaru mats back there).
They fit PERFECT, completely form fitted to the car exactly. The driver one goes all the way up under the pedals with no interference with the pedals at all, and even completley covers the dead pedal. There is a good 2 inch lip all the way around, so nothing can sneak its way around to the carpet. I got black, and they make the interior seem quite a bit darker too!
So I just thought I would post this for anyone in the future considering getting these, its a great investment.

The heavy-duty rubber mats were one of the first things I bought. We have some bad weather here in Chicago so I would definitely recommend them.

Just as a counterpoint, I'd have to say I have the SUBARU all weather floor mats, and I really don't like them too much. They don't conform well to the floor, they tend to slide forward, at least on the drivers side, and they do not have a hook to attach to the attachment point under the left side of the seat like the stock carpet mat did, so sometimes they scoot forward and get under the pedal, which can really mess up your driving. If i had it to do over again I'd try a different brand, or just buy a spare set of carpet ones for when the originals got too ratty and nasty and just throw the old ones out.

The Subaru rubber mats I have (from my old 98 Impreza, but I believe new ones are still similar) are way too thick, almost 3/4-1 inch thick, which is awkward and I don't like it.
My ONE hang up with the Husky Liners is the diamond plating pattern. Its purely looks, so its not a big deal at all, but still cheesy. To "truck-ish" for me.

We have Husky Liners for our 05 Nissan Titan CC.
Again, it's an absolutely perfect fit. Keeps a "tray" to get all the winter nastiness from the carpets. A true all-weather accessory. Had em in the summer and no deformations occured.
But yes, the liners are geared more to the truck guys :)

I have had huskys in both my wrx and now my rs coupe. They have worked wonders. You can get the generic ones that you can "cut" to size, or you can get the prefitted ones. I think the generics will work the best. My father has huskys in his Audi TT. They look aggressive work perfectly.

I picked up a set of all-weather, rubber floor mats for $20 at Costco. The have the lip around the edge to hold in liquid. Seem to fit pretty well, but I'll know just how well once I get up to the snow in a few weeks.

good price. is it like the pics they show?

Bump with pictures......
but wow, those look like they were taken with a cell phone... Aparently I had my camera set on "crap mode", cause usually the pictures are SLR quality (I didn't look at them before posting).
Meh, you get the idea. I'll get some better ones soon.

Nice, nothing is gettng past those mats!

do you think grey might look good with the blue carpet?
| twizzstyle | 10-31-2005 09:24 PM |
Hmmm, not sure. I went with the black, cause their gray is pretty light. Their grey is about as bright as the silver on my car

did you guys see the fabric version from husky. dont think they are real fabric tho. does anyone know for sure?

Which website did you order them from?
I'd really like to get a pair for my STi this winter.
Thanks.

Do they cover the fuel door/trunk release ? I have the $10 walmart ones that work but those look nice.
| twizzstyle | 10-31-2005 10:49 PM |
They do cover the fuel door/trunk release intitially, but you're supposed to cut that section out (as per the instructions). I haven't done it yet though, but yes.... those things are accessable.
| WRXTuan | 10-31-2005 11:10 PM |
yeah, i took the cheap way out, I got my generic all weather floor mats at costco for 20 bucks. I'm not going to complain, cause it does it's job :)

Ya the Husky mats are great. I have ahad a set since the car is new.
| Angry the Clown | 10-31-2005 11:59 PM |
I have them in my '05. Slight fitment issue with driver side. I do know that the trunk and gas lid release lever was moved. But the carpet underneath is practically brand new, so I don't complain too much!
| austinpike | 11-01-2005 12:25 AM |
They do cover the fuel door/trunk release intitially, but you're supposed to cut that section out...
huh, the ones I got last year are molded around the release levers, don't cover them at all. Also they didn't have black last year for the Impreza, just grey, which is OK but the black looks better imho. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow.

the diamond plating is pretty ghey though.

Twizz,
This may sound silly, but what about odor? From experience, I know some rubber products can have an unpleasant scent. I can stand the initial "new" smell in my car but I'm curious how strong it is (and has it lingered over time)? .....thanks in advance.

they are pretty light grey. i've had mine in for just as long as i have owned my car (aug 02). and i bet if i lifted them up, it'd be nice and clean underneath. i've been telling ppl about these for years. not a big hit with the nasioc crowd. the black looks good. those weren't available when i received mine as a gift.
excuse the dirtyness (hey, at least you know they're doing what they're supposed to. they clean up real easy with simple green and a hose)
front driver side

i have the set for the rear but have no pics. i did wish the rears fit a bit nicer. the front seat rail sliders seem tend to push them around from time to time. i guess it doesn't help that i'm a bit taller and need to have the seat pretty far back (note: absolutely NO ghetto lean)

Just for reference, its well into the winter, the Husky Liners have seen lots of abuse from skiing, and they are still holding up strong. After a quick hose down they look brand new, and they never had any smell what-so-ever from the beginning, and obviously still don't.
Definatley best money spent on my car.

I got some of those cheap ones from shucks, and they just kept bunching up and the rubber would start to curl. I might have to look into those husky ones.

ok now its been a while.
does anyone know what the best place to buy it with the rear ones too? online or not is ok.

I know its a diff car and all but here are some Husky's on my Runner.
austopartswharehouse is the cheapest place to buy them. These mats are fuggin outstanding, totally stain free, can take any abuse and all you gotta do is take them out and spray them off to clean them.

looks as if maybe those "deep dish" style mats are no longer available, husky's website doesn't list them anymore.
