This is the helmet I bought. Great helmet. Great price. It's very comfortable, and realitivly light. I didn't get a full face, even though I thought about it for a while, because of air movement. The little tinted visor is actually quite effective.
I would get a SA rated helmet. If you get into lappin days, some of the stricter promoters require an SA rated helmet. M helmets are 1 impact only.
Just my .02

Get a helmet with an SA2000 rating...and def. look at getting full face. If you are gonna spend 125-150 helmet spend 175...do it right the first time.

I would wait a bit if you can, the Snell 2005 specs are coming out soon and you'll want one with the latest specs. If you truly care about safety I would get a full face helmet.

I also read on there that having a full face helmet with operational aribags is dangerous because you could fracture your jaw......umm....thoughts?

Does it fit well
If it doesnt fit it's a piece of crap.
Fit is more important than anything.

My HJC AC-10 is DOT and SNELL 2000 approved. They go for around $60 shipped on ebay. Granted, it is a motorcycle helmet... but I initially bought it for my Ruckus anyways. :)

it's not worth buying a motorcycle helmet with the potentiality of needing to replace it in a year with one that has the SA rating. I went with the GForce proforce hybrid (i think) <$200, fits me great, and plenty of air flow.
Don't buy any helmet without finding a local retailer that carries it and trying it on for at least 20 minutes.. What might seem like a good fit for 2 minutes might give you a headache after 10...

I have the SA2000 version of that helmet, which I like very much. The one you linked to is only M spec, which means some HPDE folks won't let you out in it. I'd recommend spending the extra cash to get the SA version:

I codrive using the GF-750: http://www.racerwholesale.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=63
It fits well, is comfy, cheap ($150), SA2000 rated, and not too heavy.

Not to thread jack, but does anyone know if they sell a "low Profile" helmet? I have the sunroof in my 04 and with my regular helmet I either have to drive with my head cocked to the side, or recline the seat back more than I would normally...

We carry Bell and Pyrotect helmets at a good price.
Here is a link to our thread in the vendor's area.

We can order any Bell/Pyrotect helmet you wish...

For autox you don't really need a full face helmet, but if you are doing track stuff, please get one.
One of my favorite quotes was
do you want an open face helmet? put your helmet on, sit in your drivers seat, then slam your face into the steering wheel.
Also, here is another one from honda-tech where a guy rolled his car last week
Finally, I was VERY glad that I had a full-face helmet on - with the visor DOWN - when all of those shards of windshield hit me in the face. If you are still doing the open face thing, come by the shop, I'll throw a handfull of the stuff that we sucked out of the floors in your face, and you tell me how it feels.
^^^ What he said. 2005 certifications should come out towards the end of the year. Make sure that you verify that your helmet is 2005 rated if you mail order during the transition as you could possibly get a 2000.

ok so its down to these 2 helmets.....I would like the idea of the Bell Pro becasue it has that "open-face" feel. I figure if im driving i can just wear my sunglasses. Then again the full protection of the visor on the pyrotec is a good idea too i suppose.....What do you guys think?
Both helmets are at the bottom of the page. Helmets

I personally use the Bell SR Pro... I like it... The field of vision seems to be wider than the Pyrotect... At least for me...
The Pyrotect is just as nice... It does have the shield...
I wear my driving glasses with the SR Pro with no problems...
Both are SA2000 rated... All comes down to choice...

The helmet you linked is for motorcycles. There's an identical one for autos with the SA2000 rating.

Motorcycle helmets (DOT/SNELL Approved) are rated for single impacts, whereas an SA is rated for multiple impacts and also has fire-resistant materials to make up the interior. There are both open and closed faced SA helmets available.

The report regarding airbags conflicting with full face helmets came from Formula 1 cars in testing with airbags. Unless you drive an F1 car, there is no evidence that an airbag will conflict with a full face helmet in a passenger car.
