I smell a motor sports for sale forum. part 1

javid 07-25-2006 09:26 AM

I smell a motor sports for sale forum.
You guys smell that too?

If you don't do it, I will have Hoppe post 6 for sale threads a day in "classic Hoppe rebels against the moderator" fashion.
Mykl 07-25-2006 09:32 AM

jcroy66 07-25-2006 09:36 AM

It seems like a good idea to me! (The Motorsports FS forum, not Tom post-whoring. :D)
SloRice 07-25-2006 09:45 AM

Nah, I'm ok. I sold my two motorsports things. :p

Although, I may put my turbo up for sale in this forum.....I tend to sell things quicker here.
subieworx 07-25-2006 10:05 AM

Sounds like a decent idea. That way the people who are actually interested in performance don't have to sift through that monster FS forum.
Sneuxstorm 07-25-2006 10:34 AM

+1 for the FS area here. it would make hunting down and selling off Motorsports specific stuff easier

...but how do you define motorsports specific items?
STiShawn 07-25-2006 10:35 AM

agreed, Motorsports FS forum..but what seprates the MSFS from the other FS forums?
vlady 07-25-2006 10:54 AM

A great idea!

Ditto.
CTKAG 07-25-2006 11:27 AM

I also think a motorsports 'for sale' section makes some sense. I'd also support categorization of the current forum similar to the vendor forum as an alternative.

-Keith-
Pacobeagle 07-25-2006 11:35 AM

Add one more to the petition!!!
skuttledude 07-25-2006 11:36 AM

Sounds good.
would like to see/hear a good definition on how to separate FS motorsports stuff from other stuff.
Something like: "used previously only in AutoX, rallyX, or road racing"
(still a bit vague)

Who's this Tom one speaks of?
mesa50w 07-25-2006 11:51 AM

great idea
WagonMonster 07-25-2006 11:55 AM

I'm lobbying for it, and have been for months.

No promises, but I'm trying to make it happen
bjorn240 07-25-2006 12:21 PM

I think it's a good idea, too. But we have to be strict about what is really motorsport-related.
dowroa 07-25-2006 12:21 PM

I just want to know what keeps 'trhoppe-wannabes' from putting their Veilside 'ubah-leet bumpah' in here that makes 'mad tyte drag, yo'. That, or how do you keep peopole from spamming their non-related items in here as well.

Sounds like someone should be made a moderator to delete all incorrect threads, or an Access/Oracle database be setup such that the items for sale are presorted.

How about a 'smarter' For Sale forums that are just easier to find things with input requirements to post (pics, information, seller location, dob, CC#.. etc)?

:runs away before he has to make an oracle database:

:)

javid 07-25-2006 01:59 PM

Some items I call motorsports:

Tire or car trailers.
Fuel jugs, camber and toe gauges, tire temp gauges, data acq systems, camera mounts, harnesses, harness bars, fire bottles, tow hooks or straps, aluminium jacks or jack stands
r-compound tires and track compound pads
custom built oilcovers or shocks
wheels that are forged, beaten/scractched (and sold for cheap) or stick out past the stock fenders.
bushings, after market seats or steering wheels, or anything else that will make driving the car uncomfortable.
DrBiggly 07-25-2006 01:59 PM

dow,
Monster is a mod in here which if I don't miss my guess would make him a mod in the proposed "Motorsports ForSale" child forum. Which means he'd move the ricer junk to the main where it belongs.

While better categorization of the main forum is a great idea, just adding the Motorsports ForSale is simpler I think. :)

-Biggly
PKer 07-25-2006 02:12 PM

Sounds like a good idea. Since we're all fine upstanding ladies and gentlemen, we won't have to worry about getting scammed by some 15y/o on the other side of the country.
spazegun2213 07-25-2006 02:41 PM

GREAT IDEA!!! Its much better than wading though the general FS for that one gem :)
Butt Dyno 07-25-2006 02:43 PM

Well, this'll have to do:

Sure sounds like a good idea to me, it would be nice ;)
eyeballs 07-26-2006 12:51 AM

sounds good. especially since I am on the lookout for used tires and race wheels.
Kaymin 07-26-2006 12:53 AM

dude i think we should make one for every section, like wheels and tires. Suspension blah blah.

Paisan 07-26-2006 01:34 AM

The real question is there demand for it and you guys have to understand that if we deem something "not motorsports related" that will be the final word on it. No whining that you could use it for racing etc.

-mike
remowgn 07-26-2006 04:07 AM

What??? my weapon-R max drop dorifto oilcovers are not motorsports worthy?!?

I'm all for it too... I can just see it now, a stickied thread for 2.5" spring swap/sales.... the possibilities are endless.
MattNJ2.8 07-26-2006 08:14 AM

+1 for a Motorsports FS Forum.

I'd like to see a mandated forum for ALL MS FS posts, so that the posts are clear, concise, and it's clear the parts belong here.
AUTOwrXER 07-26-2006 02:12 PM

I have a ton of stuff to sell in a motorsports FS forum, and I haven't listed it yet because I don't want all the noob questions. I also don't want someone buying my unused Hawk HP+ brake pads and then asking me for a refund because they make noise. It's a different type of buyer, and we need a different forum for these parts.
Draken 07-26-2006 02:40 PM

-mike
Hahaha, power-trip much?

I agree with Joel. I've got some specific items leftover from my STi, but I've just never gotten around to posting them in the normal for sale thread. Unless you bump stuff every 2 hours, it disappears to the 12th page. If anything, NASTY Classifieds is the last place I'm posting stuff now.

I would say that would also be nice Motorsports related vender section.

Can do some motorsport related Group buys deals etc....

First let's get it and then we'll take it from there. We also don't want the same junk that regular users want to porn off as "race" stuff to be porned off by vendors here as well.

My jdm Spec C, 5 spd helical torsen2 front limited slip dif w/ very limited miles, one local AX season, still hasn't sold posted in the Southern CA Classified ... what can I legally do to try and make it available to other NASIOC members who might be looking for an item like this, for half price, $500? :p

See - that's where I'm starting to get confused. It's an awful lot of work for one person to determine what is and what isn't motorsports worthy. sure, there are some things that you could easily tell on - for example a sub enclosure for 8 12" subs for city block shaking bass, but what about other things that some feel are motorsports worthy, but some feel aren't.

We, and a few other vendors, try to stay away from non-performance oriented parts, but are they TRULY motorsports worthy? For example, and mods, this is just an example used for discussion - we make rear diff mount bushings. Personally I feel they are motorsports worthy, but I know some folks are going to say they aren't because they don't feel they are. The point I'm trying to make is that it's going to get very confusing and cumbersome for one guy to determine what is and isn't motorsports worthy.

As suggested above - perhaps a guideline list of things that are good, and another list of what is not. If someone is in doubt they could appeal to the admin to be allowed to post it?
Student Driver 07-27-2006 04:34 PM

So far the sticky has been awesome. I thought someone was gonna die when the Sparcos sold. :) I liked seeing stuff that's targeted for me rather than several searches in the FS forums with combinations of keywords that get me nowhere (people babbling and using "sti", "stock", and "wheel" in a reply or stuff that's been sold for a while).

Updated list:

-(Cars) Prepped cars, rollers, shells

-(Towing) Tire or car trailers, tool carriers, tow straps, beat up tow trucks

-(Track Supplies) Fuel jugs, camber and toe gauges, tire temp gauges, radar guns, aluminium jacks or jack stands, battery powered tools for the track, radios, tents, tarps, golf carts, beer.

-(Car consumables) ST worthy or r-compound tires, any track or autoX/street pads, brake fluid, tranny and diff oil, bearings, rotors.

-(Suspension) custom built or high end (we could literally specify the brands allowed) oilcovers or shocks, (all others can be found easily in the regular FS forum), front and rear control arms, camber plates.

- (Wheels) forged, beaten/scractched (and sold for cheap), stick out past the stock fenders, or custom sized for certain motorsports apps (rally, road race ect).

-(DriveTrain) Differentials, gear sets, trannies (shells or built ones), tranny coolers, no clutches or flywheels (easy to find in reg forum).

-(Engine) Oil coolers or sumps, fuel tanks or sumps, radiators.....

-(Chassis / car prep) sterring racks, bushings, after market seats or steering wheels, or anything else that will make driving the car uncomfortable (including any and all bushings which all motorsports folk love, especially the TiC bits), no bracing (such as STB, under braces, etc are easy to find in the reg forum), cages, data acq systems, camera mounts, harnesses, harness bars, fire bottles, tow hooks or straps, CB radios, used riced out graphics, the dirty whites, brake ducts, differential ducts.

-(Driver equipment) suits, shoes, helmets, gloves, XL size hats (for teh big heads ;) ), hans or equivalent, cool suits, beer, free money, rides, or sponsorships.

-(Spares) Maybe a single thread with random OEM spares (metal bits, hoses, sensors, special bolts, etc) that the cars needs to run, roll, brake, or turn. If your like me I keep some spares organized but for the most part they are all in a big pile in the garage, and I am used to sorting through them, so I won't mind reading through a huge single post to find CHEAP spares.

- (Sponsored Parts) No seriously, this could be usefull. For all the parts above or new motorsports driven parts that are coming out, many companies want a motorsports audiance to solicite potential sponsorships. Or at least we at 6gun will be looking to sponsor a few more 'privateer' level folks shortly for different parts.

+1 for the idea and the list looks good too. The whole idea revolves around having a defiinite list and the forum being closely watched to assure that the items are actually track worthy.

DING DIN WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!

(Exterior) I would think also with things like the brake cooling kit....Its gotta be functional!!!!

(Interior) Lap timers, Race type gauges/setups, cages, harness bars....Also cameras & camera mounting systems - I would love to find a great in car camera system like the SPI Video systems for sale on racerpartswholesale.com

They should kinda model it off sites like racerpartswholesale.com & raceshopper.com sales.

Love your breakdown.

a seperate section at least would be nice. mixing it up with the regular members would be confusing and potentially troublesome.
