Whilst browsing the current issue of SCC. I learned something very interesting. Not only does Falken now make an Azenis in a 235/40/15 size. But it is also an R-compound. Man, I wish I could get some of those.
Oh, and it also taught me that both the 05 STi and 05 MR come with R-compound tires as well.
Seriously though, I'm really concerned that a mag I cherish so much could blatanly post such crap. What's up with that?

That's why I dropped my subscription to them this past year. They used to be one of the better mags out there, but not anymore.

Yeah, its getting pretty bad. I think this newest issue is probably the worst I've ever seen. I'm truly dissapointed. And yes, GRM is required reading for any car nut.

I've been reading it since 97. I'd say it's probably the best rag dedicated to [i]mostly[/i] import performance. Would you rather "read" super street?

I dropped SCC after 2002. Picked up GRM and am quite pleased. I also subscribed to RallyXS in '03 was nice, but not as useful as GRM.
SCC blows... obviously they took rattle cans to a freakin' STi!

Scott Oldham, the editor of SCC that's aimed the magazine right at the gutter, has been taken on as the Senior Editor of Inside Line at Edmunds.
Does anyone know if he's still working for SCC or if this is just a part-time thing?

Understatement of the century. I didn't mind his contribution to the magazine beforehand. ANd actually thought he was entertaining to read. But this position has given him some odd ego boost, and at the same time has all but ruined a very informative and fun to read magazine.

I also let my SCC subscription lapse last month (subscriber since '97). I kept getting notices, but the quality of the mag has seriously gone downhill in the last year or two. I always enjoyed their fairly informative articles on project cars and whatnot, but that all seems to have disappeared. I think I'll check it out again if Oldham leaves. What's wierd is that I enjoyed his writing when he was *just* writing for them. As soon as he took over as editor...well, you guys seem to know the rest.
I don't bother reading any other import mags. They all seem way too focused on the "ricer" scene. Oh well.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. Jacquot's listed as "editor." Probably temporary though. The last two issues IMO were pretty damn good- the comparison between Group N and Open WRXs for one, the writeup on the JGTC 350Z this month, plus Dave Coleman's always worth reading. (And hell, they're not perfect either- they're "project WRX" full of SPT garbage is the one the Reno region SCCA ejected after "winning" it because of highest Subaru owner participation, thanks to SECCS, and then SOA told us we had to carry a $5mil insurance policy in order to have the car, [i]and we couldn't use it in competition.[/i] We could have bought a used one for what it would have ended up costing us to have an exposition vehicle for Subaru. But I digress... :p)

I'll try to explain. A few months ago, GRM wrote about their "project WRX." Basically, they got a WRX from SOA and they're throwing in all the SPT parts for their so-called project car. This car was initially offered to Reno region SCCA, because we won a contest SOA put on last year. It had to do with hieghest growth in Solo 2 participation by subaru owners or something like that. Anyway, we won it, and our "prize" was the use of a brand new WRX for a year. The catch was, SOA wanted us to buy a huge liability policy on the car, and we weren't going to be allowed to autocross it. :huh: We told SOA they could keep it, and apparently someone at GRM got them to give them the car. Basically they wanted us to spend thousands of dollars to help Subaru promote the WRX at SCCA events in the region.

I don't agree that GRM is an acceptable substitute for SCC. They might have occasional overlapping content (WRX here, WRX there, etc) but thier overall focus is a completely different audience. In the 90's, i subscribed to Turbo magazine, but found that there was way to much concentrated honda content after that point so it was replaced with a subscription to SCC. Of that particular niche of auto magazines, it still seems to be the [i]"least bad"[/i] :lol: of them all.
