impreza + black light = where do you put it?
if you have an impreza with a black light, I would like to know where you mounted it. if you have something negative to say about black lights or asses that drive with them on, don't say anything. I know it is considered rice, but I don't want this thread to turn inflammatory.
so if you have a black light where did you mount it and what kind do you have?
thanks,

*I realize this depends on the lights output.

I've got two 6" blue neon tubes tucked up under the dash. They light up the floor with a nice blueish / purpleish glow... Black lights could do the same thing, but I was given the blue neon for free so... (plus it matches all the other blue accents, engine dressup, claipers, etc.)
I plan to add two more of the 6" blue tubes under the driver's & passenger's seats to make the rear floor glow as well. =o)
Rice, but not too obvious. Hey, anyway, tastful rice is always, well tasteful. Inside each one of us is a little boy-racer just dying to come out and play. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gif[/img]

Map lights! Hey that is a pretty good idea. I think I've maybe used mine ONCE. I normally just hit the dome light if I need it.
Hmmm..... Going to have to try this.

SubieGal, where did you get the map lights? i havent seen blacklights that would fit at any of the stores near me, just wondering if you had to order them or what. or maybe i just havent looked hard enough [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif[/img]
| Fido | 05-11-2001 01:48 PM |
yeah, what blacklights will fit the maplights? Or did you take out the maplight lens so the area would be bigger, so you could mount a bigger bulb?
| John2.5RS | 05-11-2001 02:04 PM |
I have two blacklights between the visor and the sunroof. They are the 12" florescent blue-cased one from Spencer's. My friend made custom polished aluminium brackets that hook under the rubber liner for the sunroof . They fill the car and you even get the effect in the back seat and I didn't have to drill a single hole.

wop,
I think they are street glow. I don't remember for sure, but that sounds right. Like I said, they were a gift from a friend with a '97 Mitsu Galant (that will be featured in Euro Lowrider Magazine soon).
Iran the wires to a good spot up under the dash and then tie-wraped them to whatever was convenient. Not even sure, just tie-wraped 'em to whatever wire, cable or strp was down there that would keep 'em in place and out of site. They work fine. Not worried about messing up the stuff under there since they give off little or no heat, and I dont turn them on that much anyway. Check out this link to see the way I put my switches. I think they are pretty trick. (I used aircraft safety switch covers. One cuts my subwoofer, one turns on/off the neon, one doess the strobes in my headlights, and one does the strobes at the rear [turnsignals & reverse lights])

I don't know if an optimal place exists to mount a blacklight. To get it to make you glow requires that you put it in your field of vision, which is bad for nighttime glare. If you put it where you can't see it, then it's kinda useless.

DETAILS:
After going through THREE sets of the cheap $20/pair dual strobes, I settled for the $10-$12/each single strobes. Little halogen things you can get at any import Hon-Duh type shop. Even Pep Boys has 'em (Pep boys has the neon too...)
Follow the directions. Drill small holes into the light housing (I removed the bulbs first) and push the 4" x 3/8" halogen strobe tube into the housing. Pull the wires snug and plug the hole with the silicon stopper attached tot he wiring. Now run a + and a - wire from some reliable source to the strobe.
Repeat as nescessary until ALL the lights you want have strobes in them. Refrain from using around police officers whenever possible (unless you like tickets and having the wiring ripped out of the car roadside. I have heard horror stories of just that happening here in Miami!)
Wire them to a switch. I spliced into the dedicated 20A circuit for my cigarette lighter (which I never use) for power for all of these strobes and neon. None of them use more than 1A each, so even with EVERYTHING on at once, it isn't too much of a load. I ran all of the wiring through a 6-wire trailer light disconnect switch so I could easliy remove the trim piece the switches are mounted to when getting to the rest of the dash / stereo. Two wires were used by the sub woofer (power to switch and switch to amp) and the other four as follows. One hot (split to all 3 switches), and three switch legs to the individual sections. Not hard at all, just time consuming.
BTW: The switches I used were not cheap. I oculd have saved some time, gas and a few $ on the switches themselves by just ordering the darned things from Summit to begin with. My wild goose chase to Aviation supply places ended with a slightly higher overall cost, and alot of driving around. Otherwise, use something from your local autoparts store. I was planning on using some light up rockers that require a single hole per switch for mounting before I got the wild hair to spend all the money on these switches...
Enough Details?

I've seen some blacklights mounted between the Oh $hit handles on the sides of the car. It hides them pretty well from outsiders and you really have to crouch to see them there.

It looks really good and the white gauges glow like a motha!! they where like $9 dollars a piece. hope this helps.
