Wow, that doesn't look legal. But it sure looks sweet! Very "euro"!
How did you do it without drilling? When I put city lights into my old GTI I have to drill...

Neat looking. Don't get pulled over though. Cops get jealous when you put blue lights on your car. They want to be the only ones. Especially if they flash or strobe.
I think the charges are "Impersonating a police officer"
Not a flame, just a heads up. Careful out there.

why are they called city lights? just bulbs? how much and where did you get them?
| Black2002WRX | 06-29-2002 07:07 PM |
It depends on what state you live in if thier illegal or not. Here in NY you can have any colored lights you want from blue to orange to purple as long as they dont flash.
And very sweet car.

Please tell me how you did that and how much it cost to do. Im really liking what that looks like.
| Andrew | 06-30-2002 12:14 AM |
guys, city lights is just a lightbulb with a colored condom on it. it attaches by a bracket that goes on your light bulb. they ahve various sizes (H4, etc for the brackets).
they are nothing special. and cost about 10-20 bucks for a pair.

hey andrew since u seem to know something about them...
can u have them on, and your headlights/corners on at the same time? or are these a replacement for the headlights...i kinda dont understand that concept of the city lights.
i think i would get these, but in red...i know its wicked illegal but i think it would look baddass

they are not a replacement. they just og on the H4 light bulb metal housing.
here is a picture:

the rings in the picture are the brackets i was talking about that attach to the H4 bulb.
i cant remember if th elight bulb is colored or if it has a condom on it. basically its just an EXTRA lightbulb. i used to have a purple set. it came with a switch so you can turn it on and off whenever you want.
these are NOT powerful bulbs. during the day you will NOT see them. at night you will see them like you see in the picture but thats pitch black when you need your headlights on (you will not see the light with the headlights on). i used to run mine during dusk when it was getting real close to the time when you turn on your headlights.

18 replies and not a single email to me about them I think the i club is slipping
sorry guys i havent been on but i didnt know anyone replied
Ok here are the answers to yours questions
Schleppy Wow, that doesn't look legal. But it sure looks sweet! Very "euro"!
I am not sure how legal it is but since this is now only my show car i dont drive it out much so no worries
The way i put them in with out drilling is that I used Vared LEds that i installed inside the light houseing and the wire are small enough to come out the side of the headlight bulb. There are 2 small openings on the GC8 percfect for the wires to run though with out interfering with the headlight. Plus these are LEDS so they will never fade like light bulbs.
can u have the city lights on and the head lights/corner lights on at the same time?
yes they are wired together since they are LED they draw less current then a light bulb.
here is the type i used you can get them from ebay or the net check the pic below

The Power wires from the led are tapped to the parking Light wires so the run with the parking lights

how many volts do those led's run off of? the ones at radios shack are 3V and have to have a resistor.
| STi PWR | 07-10-2002 07:23 AM |
The Varad LEds come with the Resistor in line so all you have to do it tap it to 12v DC
| Andrew | 07-10-2002 09:27 PM |
i thought your headlights looked very bright for the city lights i was referring to ;) anyways have fun and watch out for cops.

Can you say T R O N ??? Very kewl.
Has anyone fabricated their own lexan covers to slip over the stock lenses? That way you could have any color you wanted, and take it off if you thought the cops would hassle ya.
