Yellow Fog Lights?
I think my car would look seriously badass with some yellow fog lights.
Has anyone tried this? Would we be able to replace just the bulb with a yellow or would we have to get a whole new housing?
Thx.

I agree. But I like the look of the ion piaa 520s. They give out a nice yellow light but have a yellow/blue look to them when they are both on and off. don't know why but it looks awesome.

I have PIAA super ion yellow or something long and similar to that. They are nice bulbs, throw a lot of light, and look REALLY cool...
Another thing you could do that looks REALLY badass is get some glass paint (stained glass paint or something like that) and paint the fog lense yellow. Looks sick and gives off yellow light using the regular bulbs...
Just a few thoughts for ya...

Cool. How hard is to replace that bulb in the foglight? Gotta get under the car?
Anyone have links for pricing on the PIAA?

I belive Schleppy is talking about the Ion Crystal bulbs. I had the PIAA version on my car when i had fogs. They look awsome! Really bright. Almost to bright to drive around with. They have a color change affect to them also. At angles the look Purple then bluish then yellow. Also if your far away looking at the car you would not even know that they were yellow, the blub looks blueish, except for the yellow light on the ground. Recommend them Highly
If its the same as the GC8s you have to take out the fog light. really eazy, three screws.

Has anyone else wired their lights so you can turn on only the fog lights?
Me thinks only yellow fogs on would look very very sweet ; )

okay so i have done both methods of yellow fogs...
here is a pic of my car with tinted fogs..i used spray stained glass paint form a hobby store....one coat....light was pretty yello from up close but really white from far away...they were a bit useless though, because up close they were pretty dim...
[IMG]http://www.i-club.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=1797388[/IMG]
i now have a set of hella yellow star bulbs in the stock housings, as in back to clear...these bulbs are yellow glass with a bit of blueish coating on them, they are very bright <85W> and actually pretty effective, they almost over power the heads...i will try to get some pics posted tomorrow,
edit:oh yeah i also have the fog mod done:D and yes, just yellow fogs does look very cool:D

you can probably find the piaa 520s for $200-250 for the black ones and $250-300 for the chrome ones. I acually got the black ones and ordered the chrome covers so I can switch between both. I think chome will look better but we'll see. Or I could just go without covers, lots of options. Oh, and they probably put about 1 1/2 times more light on the road then my headlights.

Some one before posted they bought a yellow film, and put it on their fog lights. I have gone to a couple stores, and have not found it. Anyone know the real name of this stuff. I saw some yellow paint for glass, but the yellow was ugly. What is the name of the yellow for the stained glass ones. thanx,

Don't bother, just get some Hella Yellowstar bulbs for the fogs.

Where can one find the yellow bulbs for the fogs? Price, part number?
Thanks.
Thanks.

you can get them here, but I paid, $11 for the pair at a local shop. http://catalog.com/susq/hella/bulbs.htm

Thanks for the link Tai, we'd probably want to order this one, right, because 110 watt is too much for the stock harness?

that is for the headlight..i would advise against the yellowstars for the head, iirc, they may be too yellow and not legal....thay are also not as fuctional as regular lights as far as daily or nightly driving...but hell good luck and post pics...i got my h3's for the fogs at a place called 4 wheel parts appearanly they are a chain with stores in co, ca, tx, and elsewhere...but yeah, try some offroading or 4wheel store.s....usually have them in stock..

Ah, okay, then what model/size should I get for the foglight?
I don't want yellow headlights.

Don't knock yellow lights too much. I've got them in a set of Morettes and they do very well in pitch black. The thing is yellow light is softer on the eye and creates less glare. While everything is dimmer, you can see a lot more detail. Combine that with the optics of an E-code lens, and you can see reflectors, roadsigns, and animal eyes long before you're upon them.
Legality goes by state. I was pulled over once by a cop who in the dark thought I was a ricer (the Morettes are the only extroverted thing on the car), and since then I have carried a copy of the Illinois Vehicle code, which specifically allows lights of an amber or yellow tint.
For driving in lit or urban areas, you will not see any benefit, as other light will drown out the benefits of yellow light.

HID headlights and ion foglights. best combination IMO.

part number from Hella on Yellowstars in H3 55W is -78135Y

i have a pair of the ION crystal Yellow PIAA's in mine (i think part number is 13555)
they are actually very nice. they were brighter than my piaa hyper plasma's in the headlight housing.
look into them (actually these maybe the only worthy bulbs that piaa makes for the money).

i love the hella yellow stars, but they're not really yellow, but they are bright. i do have one question. i had them on my rs, and they lasted about a year, but now on my wrx, i've gone through at least 3 in the past 6 months, anyone know why?
they're the 85 watt, but like i said, there was no problem with the rs. could it be due to the DRLs? i dunno
Jeff
regardless, i get them for $9 a pop at a local store here, i think that's a really good deal

do you have the fog mod?....if so it may be the flashing of the bulb. if not i would suggest a high power harness for the H3's....i have the 85W ones to <5 at a local store :p> and have yet to run into any problems.....but then again i do have an RS

I have the yellow Hella bulbs. I guess they are yellow stars, but I don't know for sure. Mine are rated at 85/135, and are very yellow. I don't see why the h3, or any other size would have a color difference.
I am running an upgraded wiring harness, which may make a difference in how much power the lights get, and that may change the color.

i have catz gold h3's on my wrx, and had the gold h4's on my civic before it was stolen. to be perfectly honest, i liked the headlight version better. i'm thinking of using these h3's in driving lights if i replace my stock fogs. in the mean time, though, these bulbs do a good job of cutting through what little rain we get here in cali, and light up the road just right.
