Is JPM trying to make EVERYONE mad??
Jeez, I know he's trying to make an impression and play head games, but:
"If Schumacher thinks he has been granted by divine grace some right which allows him to overtake wherever he wants, I have news for him, he can forget it, he won't intimidate me, because I'm not as psychologically fragile as the other drivers."

It's good to see JPM playing with the big-boys, but he pretty obviously screwed up in this situation, and it would have been nice to see him admit it...

I think there's a difference between putting out an "I'm not afraid" attitude and publicly calling your competitors "psychologically fragile."
| Fred Zaplitny | 05-16-2001 06:08 AM |
He should watch what he says about the other drivers, he is a rookie over there. I think if he can back up his claims and win some races it may be an interesting season, but he certainly isn't winning friends with statements like that.
| donjuan | 05-16-2001 06:10 AM |
Exactly Fred. And the 21 other drivers are not the only people he needs to consider either.
| Arioch | 05-16-2001 06:47 AM |
i think you said it roght fred. he probably pissed off 20 other drivers (michael isn't included in that #) with that statement.
i know there are a few people that will, and have, chew him up and spit him out... people may say that he has had bad luck mechanicly, but don't talk $hit if you can't back it up. so he's not afraid... he's not the only one. anyone else see david coultard flinching and saying sorry being afraid of michael schumacher? nope, and he didn't have to run him off the road trying to protect his place and make a point either. neither has ralf, or jos (when he was whomping @ss at the early stages of the race.)
aargh! i can't keep ranting all day... i'll try again later when i'm not as pissed.... just got a parking ticket this morning! [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

Pablo will get his just deserves soon enough, you dont bite the hand that feeds you. He is F1's golden boy at the moment, he is exciting to watch, but that doesn't mean he is on par with a lot of the other drivers. He was clearly holding up Schumacher and Barrichello and the others after that in the race. He knew he was going to get passed and instead of being a gentleman, he screwed another drivers chances. I am a huge Schumacher fan, but I think I would have been upset with that move if it was anyone. At first when I saw the race it didn't bother me too much, but now that I see it again, he totally ruined the chances of 2nd place to take first and possibly the win, again it is irrelevent that it is Schumacher. What pisses me off even more is that he is going around calling everyone else weak minded, he made the **** -up, nobody else. Now he is running around acting like nothing can phase him. I hope Pablo eats those words, and I hope Micheal is the one to feed them to him, followed by a trip to Beat down city.

I agree, and I'm a Williams fan. He's beginning to piss me off, and giving "my" team an image I don't like. If I had any say it would be:
Lose some weight tubby, quit worrying so much about who's doing what in your damn mirrors, and spend some of the effort you use talking big and score some points instead.

JPM has the same attitude that Villenueve had when he started at Williams. "Screw everyone, I'm the new guy and I just came from being champion in CART so I will dominate here too" But look at Villenueve now. He is in a team that is not doing so well and he is much more subdued than he ever was. Montoya will get his soon. Wait until Sir Frank hires the next new Golden Boy and JPM has to move elsewhere.
I want to see Kimi Raikkonen in a Ferrai or McLaren. He is much more disciplined than JPM, and I think he has more control and will be faster!
Go Kimi!!!!!

I'm glad you brought up that point. Because discipline is what JPM is horribly short on. He expects to win because he's won before in F3000, CART...
I wonder how the team engineers have managed to compensate for the increasing size of his head and weight of his gut.
| cj917 | 05-16-2001 09:43 AM |
you are truly weak-minded if you are affected by other people calling you that
my guess is that most drivers won't even care... they might express opinions regarding what JPM said, but we'll never know what they think when they are racing and see Montoya or Schumacher's car in front, next to, or behind them
i just find it funny that Schumacher *almost* made Montoya looked bad if he had more patience staying behind and waited for Montoya to make a mistake, rather then getting sucked into it and gone off himself too

I agree, their is too much hype surrounding Montoya. So far the revelation of the season has been Kimi. I think Kimi is way more subdued, he is with a team that is not so high profile, and he is just waiting to make the move to another team. He has been amazing so far this year in a car that is not meant to placing in the top 10 of an F1 race. Although everyone is denying that Kimi will go to Ferrari next year, just wait, I bet it will happen next year or the one after. He has a lot of talent, and unlike Montoya he does not have a bloated head. JPM needs to keep his attitude in check and get on with scoring points. Winning a world championship speaks worlds more than whinning about how weak minded your competitors are.

Hmm. JPM's attitude doesn't bug me as much as it seems to bug you guys, but maybe it's because I figure (from what I've seen of Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Nigel Mansell) that there will be at least one or two prima donnas in every F1 field. Greatly gifted individuals with a race car, but egos the size of Texas. So far as Montoya's move on Schumacher goes, here's a quote I read in Autosport:
McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz has defended Montoya's controversial move on Schumacher. While Schumacher says Montoya's move was "silly", the Colombian put it down as a racing incident. But the former Benetton racer, who was working for ITV television, said: " For Michael to say Montoya would not have made it is a bit strange because he would not have made the corner either."

I am not a big Schuey fan and IMO has done an excellent job of manipulating the press and other drivers for his favor.
As for JPM, don't stop! You are starting to get under Schueys skin and he's getting a little nervous. JPM is just staking out his claim in the F1 world. Racing is not a gentelmans sport. I agree with jpm's comments all the way. He is mentally strong and as all good racers, cocky. For this cockshuredness is all about confidence and Confidence equalls winning.

First let me say I think JPM has talent.
Now that I have said that, I think it is easy to talk trash when you are in a good car. Easy to say I am that good in Formula I. Let's not forget what happened Villenue (sp?). At Williams things seemed a little too easy always running at the front, now at BAR he is lucky to just finish. In Formula I I think it is 50% driver and 50% car sport. So I say we stick JPM in a Minardi and see if he still shoots off his mouth about how great he is.

Schum didn't have him beat to the corner. It was actually the second corner where the off occured. He got on the inside on the first corner but couldn't pull ahead before the second. If Schumi hadn't braked so late himself on the second corner, he could have let JPM go right off in front of him and stay on the "normal" line and had no trouble what so ever. As a matter of fact, on Schumi's personal web site today, he admitted he was wrong about what he had said concerning JPM, after he saw the tapes. PS, Schumi has done the same move and worse to several other drivers himself in the past without any appology.

Here is the article from www.itv-f1.com
Michael Schumacher has backed down in his feud with Juan Pablo Montoya by admitting the pair's clash in Austria was a racing incident.
A furious Schumacher accused Montoya of intentionally driving him off the track when the duo tangled on lap 16 at the A1 Ring last weekend. But having watched the incident on television, Schumacher has now climbed down.
He said: "Having watched the race on television and seen what happened on lap 16, I can say that it was less serious than I had thought at the time. I want to make it clear that, in my opinion it was a normal race incident, as indeed I said later on Sunday night.
"It has to be said that, when you sit in the car you don't get the overview of the situation, which you can have looking from outside."
Montoya always maintained that the incident was a racing accident and accused Schumacher of making a big deal of it in an attempt to unsettle him.

Shui = ***
Come on now...if youve EVER done ANY racing, and understand what a racing line is, you know he wouldent have made it. And becuase the racing line is SOOOOOO criticle at the A1, moving out of it like Schui did would have prevented him making the corner. If he hadent had FUBARed the corner, he would have never touched gravel, reguardless of how much JPM was "pushing" him. You dont make passes like that at A1 reguardless of how "great" of a driver you are and how "great" your car is.
Schui has doen the same thing DOZENZ, if not HUNDREDS of times to other drives. What makes him so special?
I applaud JPM for making the fuss that he did. Becuase it prooves just how childish, and how cocked up on himself Schui really is. And i hope the next time it happens, JPM pulls a Barichello and punts his ass straight of the track into the tires. Beucase thats what he deserves. Hell after that last corner giving up seconed place, with a far better drive, i wouldent be suprised if Barichello pulls a Barichello and punts Schui off the track...after all his contract is up soon, so what does he care?
As for Verstapen, if he was running a lighter fuel load, then why in the hell did he pit with teh rest of the feild? Hmmm....weird huh? He wasnt running a lighter fuel load, he was driving the wheels of his car, and givine a great display of driver skill.
Schui can bite my ass.
Coultard kicks ass, cause i like how McLaren has moved him into the #1 posision over Hakkinen.
You think Ferreri would do the same for Barichello? Hell no. More proving my point that Schui is a ***.
I saw drop Schui in an Orange Arrows, and if he can win, then ill be impressed with his driving skills, and will listen to his complaints. As long as hes still with Ferreri, and still treated like a little drag queen on the track...i have no respect for him.

BUCK-O Verstappen did run a light fuel load strategy. He gridded 16th, and rocketed to 7th by the end of first lap (thanks in part to light fuel). When they went green on the 4th lap, he ripped off two fastest laps, eating up DC and Irvine in the process to move up to 5th. Ralf broke, then Michael and JPM drove themselves into the grass, moving Jos up to 2nd by lap 16. But then he pitted on lap 23, moving down to 7th. Meanwhile, most everybody else pitted only once, between lap 44 and lap 48, (excepting DC who waited til lap 50 and won).
Verstappen in the meantime had moved up to P5 again by lap 45, at which point he had to stop for his 2nd stop, which moved him down to P8 behind JV and Irvine, both of whom pitted on the next couple of laps, moving Jos up to P6, where he finished the race. So Jos was running w/ half the fuel load of everyone else during the first 23 laps...

Why dont you give me JPM's home address, I will strole right up to the front door and tell him in person.
Dude, If you think that Verstappen pitted with the rest of the field then you must have been watching a completely different race. Verstappen was on a 2 stop strategy and everyone else was on a 1 stopper.
The reason everyone hates Schumi is because their favorite drivers cant do half the stuff he can. He has double the talent at least, of any other driver on the grid. He has the wins and titles to back it up, and the next two seasons will see him claim even more accolades, escalating him to the GREATEST driver in F1 history. I actually feel bad for other F1 supporters who dont like Schumacher because it is so rare that you have anything to celebrate about. I mean come on, Schumacher wins all the time, he has tons of money, a good looking wife, I think most people are just jealous of him and thats why everyone gets so mad.

I'm jealous of all 22 of them, actually all 33 or so if you count the various test drivers. I'd love to get into any one of those cars. Hell I'd have been flying high to have been in Mazzacane's shoes....

So far as the racing incident goes, I think craig's post above pretty much captures what happened.
So far as what I think about Schumi and JPM? I think they're both extremely talented, and that they're both pompous gits with egos that wouldn't fit in a barn. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]
But to expand on what I said before, racing drivers are like fighter pilots. Some of them need to feed their egos to do what they do. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif[/img]
