le Grand Prix de France de Formule 1
Bonjour et bienvenue au pick 6 de le Grand Prix de la France de la Formule 1 chez Nevers-Magny-Cours!
I confess that french is beyond my grasp, so whatever I wrote is likely to be absurd!
But it is time for the French GP...

Michael - he will earn this victory
Rubens - almost always a bridesmaid
Juan - will chase hard the red cars!
Ralf - chasing the podium
Kimi - will make Ralf sweat
David - will be unlucky
Les superieur six (j'espere...) Presqu', je say la meme chose a Silverstone, mais Magny-Cours...c'est difficile, je pense. De toute facon, mes choix sont:
1) MS
2) RB
3) Ralf (resurgent)
4) DC
5) Kimi
6) JPM

While no doubt Micheal is capable of taking France, he has his heart set on winning the WDC in Germany. If he wins in France I believe he automatically takes the championship (reaches the point where nobody can beat him, even if he takes the rest of the summer off). Therefore look for inspired performances from either Chilli Dog or Rubens, and dont rule out David "CUBE HEAD" Coultard, Kimi, and of course Ralf.
| RollingRex | 07-18-2002 11:09 AM |
Here is my view at the top six
1. MS
2. RB - not too far after MS
3. JPM - looking for another good drive from him
4. DC - mistake free race
5. Ralf - don't know what to expect from him anymore
6. Jenson - will get in the points after Kimi makes a mistake or his engine goes up in smoke

FINALLY Jag does SOMETHING on the track. You know you are having a bad year, when you see your previously bad years as good. As a jag fan I can't wait until next year, I really think they have a good engine and hopefully a good chassis coming up.

I'll bet Niki is happier than Tom Walkinshaw. Minardi is next to go.
Alex Yoong - 4.99 seconds back! Watch out Alex, daddy's going to stop writing those cheques soon. I'm sharpening my knives!

Schumi only get the championship if he gets 1st and Barrichello and Montoya dont place very high. I think.
Anywho, he wants to win in Germany and I think he will make it so.
1. Coulthard
2. Schumi
3. Barrichello
4. Kimi
5. JPM
Kinda random I know...

Sixth in Friday practice is nice but a 1:14.9 would only have placed Eddie 14th on last years starting grid. I think Ford should replace Lauda. In my very limited observation he doesn't seem to be able to work with his team in an effective enough manner. Jackie and Paul Stewart had better success in the teams fledgling years with a pole and a win in '99 and many other strong showings.
Any guesses on tomorrows pole time?

Niki Lauda needs to be replaced for sure. Rahal would have done better had he been given the chance. Too bad the idiot squeezed him out like he did. I don't know who is more stupid; Ford or Lauda.
BTW: who cares who wins in France or anywhere else this season. It's a lost cause, the German is going to win it all again. All because Ferrari cheats!

Lauda Leads Jaguar Up The Grid

Who really knows if Rahal could have lead this turn around by Jaguar, but I was always afraid that Bobby would be out of his element, and would not be the effective leader that Ford needed for the team. I don't know if that is why Niki sacked Rahal, but if I was Ford, I would not hesitate to trust Niki's analysis and judgement.
Niki's a proven leader, having formed his own airline, and he knows very well how a F1 team should be operated, having spent so much of his post driver career in the paddocks as a consultant to the Ferrari F1 team.
I will argue that today's qualifying results clearly show that Niki is doing an excellent job in turning the big cat team around. Results are what matter, and he was handed a chassis which did not work a few months ago, and he completed a major revision of it as fast as possible, and today instead of fighting w/Minardi's for spots on the grid, they are firmly in the top ten on a clean, and clear qualifying session.

Wow, Fred! Tell us how you really feel. Darn that Ferrari! Those cheaters somehow scammed their way into the best driver, best car, most reliable car, and best pit strategist! Without cheating, there's no WAY they would win any races with that combo... And they're already working on next year's CheatMobile, a.k.a. the F2003. :D
First, Benetton...why not keep Button? I'm not completely clear on that one. Button was consistiently faster than Trulli.
Second, was that an awesome qualifying session, or what? Schumacher appeared puzzled, as did Todt, about the Ferrari's pokiness in the final sector. If, like Montoya's Williams, Ferrari had been able to maintain speed through that sector, Schumacher would have grabbed pole. Rubens would have been right where he was. I love the way JPM drives in qualifying...it's like a kid in a candy store the way he handles that Williams.
I agree with OTG on the Rahal vs. Lauda thing. That dog of a Jaguar was Rahal's last gasp. This Jaguar is Lauda at work, and it should get better. Let's not forget, however, that the Michelins are working particularly well this weekend, thanks to the warm weather in France. I think that Rahal was out of his element, but the publicity garnered for Jaguar Racing was incalculable.
I think that Dave (Oakos Automotive) has a job with Miss Cleo if he wants it.
I think that the race will be interesting, but the consistiency of the Ferraris (cheaters though they are...) will carry the day. I still look for another 1-2, though Montoya will make the lads have to work for it in the first part of the race.
Kevin

Man, what a bummer for poor Kimi. :( As much as I'm a fan of Schumi, I'm even more a fan of the up-and-comers (whether it be specific drivers, or a whole team), and I think it would have been really neat to see Kimi pull off his first ever win today. He just looked horrible during the podium ceremony.
And when is Reubens finally going to break down and decide that the Gods just don't want him to succeed and off himself? No, I don't really think he's going to kill himself, but damn that poor guy just has no luck whatsoever.

I felt really bad for Kimi too, especially in the post race press conference when he said something to the effect of "this has been my most dissapointing race ever".
As much as Fred and others would disagree, I feel that we are very lucky to witness this record tieing 5th championship. Commentators and fans alike will still be talking about this historic moment and season for many many years to come.

I understand the magnitude of the 5 titles. I just don't consider Micheal one of the greatest ever. I have a problem with that. I think he just got lucky with the teams he's been on. He's had superior equipment and personnel behind him. Hopefully he will retire now, or maybe head to the IRL.
Okay, how about CART?!
He should definitely sit out the rest of the season......because I HATE him!

There were so many things to love about that race today:
Kimi! Whoda thunk it? What was interesting, was that it seemed that Schumi had settled for second, deciding to glue up to Kimi and put that red in his mirrors to see what happened. I don't think that he ever thought that in fact, something would. Unreal. I felt SO bad for Kimi, because he's a favorite driver of mine. His pass on Ralfie was awesome.
Schumacher's championship is amazing. I think that (well, hopefully) people will begin to see him for the remarkable driver that he is. Look at what happened to Benetton after he left...nuttin. He pulled Ferrari up by the bootstraps, to where they are now. Just a remarkable driver, and a remarkable accomplishment. To the best driver, most reliable car, best pit strategy, etc, you have to add luckiest. The man flat out rules.
Rubens...what can you say? If there's bad luck to be had, he'll get it. Did anyone catch the gesture he made as he was getting out of the car? He was furious.
Michael's drive-through was a riot. I couldn't beLIEVE he didn't get a pit lane speeding penalty. The last time check (pre-penalty) was nine seconds and change. He did the drive-through, and came out in third, right on the heels of Kimi and JPM. Coulthard's drive-through was more like reality. Schumi appeared to hit that "time warp drive through."
Great drive from DC, and what the hell is up with Ralf? It looks like Williams is turning the wick down on the race cars, to keep them from blowing up, but they aren't fast. Look at when Michael got clear air from Montoya. He was a lot faster than the Williams. If Williams doesn't watch it, McLaren is going to catch and pass them for the "best of the rest" sweepstakes.
What a great time, and a great race.

I think this was my favorite race of the whole season. Even though I'm a big Schumacher fan, I was really pulling for Kimi. Too bad that Toyota had to drop oil in front of him.
He's still young though, and has a great future. One things for sure, they need to get a PR guy working with him right away, he reminds me of Mika (Mr. Boring) in the press conferences. He's like a freaking robot or something :D

JPM...
...is so blazingly fast in qualifying because they use a different motor for qualifying than for the race. They use a tighter strung motor for qualifying to give him an edge. If only they could get a decent motor that could last a whole race;)
I only wish that Kimi would have been on top. Thanks to Toyota, Kimi'll have to ride hard to get those stats up there with Schumi;) Go Kimi(I'd like to see another fellow Finn do well in F1).

Hey Brett...
...a PR person might help Kimi, but it might not. Finns have a tendency to not show too much emotion. Stoic bastards...

I thought that this was the best racing of the season up front. Those first 3 or 4 laps were amazing! Lots of intrigue with the drive thrus, etc. I was very disappointed for Raikkonen to lose what should have been his victory. Congratulations to MS. He has transformed Ferrari from a bloated mid-packer to clearly the best car on the grid.
Statistically he is clearly the best F1 driver ever. He has both skill and will.
However, my heart still is still with Senna. I'm not sure he had Schumi's fitness or total focus, or even skill, but he had even more will. He's still my man.

...and he's a great spokesman for the sport. His "speech" in the post-race press conference was touching. He really praised the entire team at Ferrari. Yes, he's arrogant, but I think he realizes that without that team behind him, he wouldn't be where he is today.
