LED citylights are the bomb (with Morettes)
For the longest time I've been meaning to install these 7-LED bulbs that I got from ledtronics.com. Finally did it, now I think I need new foglight bulbs to match!

Do you have a pic from the front of both lights? Looks good so far BTW.

Awsome, I'm making some devil eye's right now but those look pretty sweet and would be much easier. Are they on all the time even with high beams? Did you just tap into the 12V of the running lamp? I have 6 sweet 15 degree super bright LED's that I need to do something with.
Vigorous 12-24-2003 11:57 PM

whoa nice. there's gotta be a way to do this with the stock headlights.
idealrides 12-24-2003 11:59 PM

Citylights are similar to parking lights, except they're not amber like in the US. They always seem to be just a 5 watt bulb somewhere in the highbeam reflector, so all I did was change the bulbs to LED's since Morette headlights already come with citylights. And yes, they stay on all the time with the running lights.

I considered doing angel eyes but realized it would take far too much time to do it right. You could probably just drill your LED lights into your highbeam reflectors and get the same effect. I would try to experiment with the placement of the LED's to make sure they light up the whole housing before drilling.

The fogs look good too. Stock bulbs in there?

Also, in the second pic, it looks like your side marker is out (broken bulb?).
idealrides 12-25-2003 01:40 AM

yep, stock fog bulbs.

Good observation about the sidemarkers... but I rewired them into direction signals after installing the Morettes. I'm using amber LED's in them so you don't see the bulb through the lens.

The city lights bug me, but I think I'm just going to remove them entirely. Car looks meaner at night w/ just the outer lights on.

dj_noose 12-25-2003 05:31 PM

idealrides, aren't the led bulbs size 194?
idealrides 12-25-2003 05:36 PM

ciylights, sidemarkers, and license plate bulbs are all 194.
dj_noose 12-25-2003 05:37 PM

That's what I thought. Cool thanks:banana:
ScreaminFast 12-26-2003 10:18 AM

168's will fit too, they are a brighter euro-version of the 194's.... :D
yamaharyder90 12-26-2003 02:46 PM

your lights are beautiful:cool: how exactly is it done ?
bahboy20 12-26-2003 09:19 PM

yeah man
- you said morettes already had city lights in them, so do they always look like that? I dont have a set (havent received em in the mail yet) so i dont know what you mean when they have city lights already in them....

anyways, looks sweet.

yamaharyder90 12-26-2003 10:23 PM

i like how you incorporate things i dont like the morettes when there not painted but they look great
ZoomnWRX 12-27-2003 12:03 AM

ooh that looks cool! i think imma order the same thing for my morettes! w00t. the few times i drive around with just my parking lights on i'd like the city lights to be a lil brighter. these seem to fit the ticket

edit: crap you can only buy 10 at a time? how did you buy these?
idealrides 12-27-2003 02:18 AM

When I ordered them they didn't have a minimum purchase. Thats pretty stupid, now people will probably buy from someone else.

If you search google for "LED 168 wedge bulb" you'll find a ton of websites that sell the generic version of these bulbs. They might not be as bright, but they will be cheaper!

bahboy20, european headlights like the Morettes have citylights installed by the manufacturer. You just need to replace the halogen bulb with an LED bulb to get this effect.
ZoomnWRX 12-27-2003 11:21 AM

thanks. turns out PIAA makes some led wedge bulbs. nopi has them, i'll buyt them from there.

did you get pure white? or that blue/white stuff. i'd like to keep it white heh
128d 12-27-2003 03:11 PM

Very nice.
HonduHunter 12-27-2003 06:40 PM

that is lovely:eek:
Butt Dyno 12-27-2003 11:39 PM

Oh right, the important question - what color temp on the HID's?

-john
perkowskiforpope 12-28-2003 01:14 PM

anyway possible to do this with a stock 04 wrx?
idealrides 12-30-2003 12:40 PM

buttdyno, my HID's are the traditional 4100k. I hate the look and poor functionality of the higher temps.

perkowski, you can add citylights to your headlights using a kit like this. Then you just add LED bulbs.
Butt Dyno 12-30-2003 12:56 PM

ideal: cool. I have 4100K's too, just wanted to make sure that's what yours were. I don't think it would look right with the higher color temps.

Ok, so a buddy of mine used to have these in his Lancer O.Z. Edition. Now he has an EVO and decided that he didn't want to use them. So I traded him a slushy for them. They look greeeeeeat!! They look a whole lot better in person then the pics show. Some of the pics make them look a little 'ricey', but in person the light is brighter, clearer, and fills up the high beam area a lot better then the stock bulbs. These really do the trick!!

I actually bought some random LED 168s from Advance Auto parts a while back. They turned out to be orange, and they look really cool when just the marker lights are on. I want to switch it out for a yellow LED bulb or a or a bright yellow halogen, to match my foglights.

I thought about using the yellow lamin-x that is on my foglights on the high beam lens too, but i think yellow high beams would be bad.

On second thought, i do have 4500K HIDs, so I never use my high beams anymore anyways....heheh

Any ideas??
cnk 01-07-2004 10:29 AM

Just wanted to add that I bought the PIAA white LED's and installed them yesterday. They look very good and match my HID's perfectly. . .I'm running 6000K HID's.

WOW THAT IS SOO COOOL I WANT TO DO THIS CAN ANYBODY FILL ME IN on how i can do this, i have stock 04 headlights thanks guys
cnk 01-07-2004 03:41 PM

City lights aren't on the stock headlights. As mentioned in the thread title, this mod is for those with Morette headlights. You can add city lights to your stock high beam reflector with the kit mentioned on the first page. The means drilling in to your stock headlights and doing the wiring yourself.

N'CTRL 01-07-2004 07:14 PM

Ya, I'm running 8000K HID's and the match is very good. They match the regular halogens as well though.

ScreaminFast: I have the yellow Lamin-X on my fogs as well. I wonder what it would look like on the high beams. I was actually thinking about getting the 'smoked' film for my headlights, since I painted them 'racoon' style. I'll prolly just end up getting clear though.
