35% is not too dark.
It means 35% of the light can come through.
Ther rear windows can be as dark as you like.
I think the limit for the front 2 are 20%

These vary from state to state. If you ask a local tint shop, they'll tell you.

35% isn't too bad. I have that all the way around and people that pull up to me at stop lights at night can still recognize me.
| Ikonosin | 12-31-2001 08:06 PM |
I also hae 35% tint, and like it. Its already dark outside right now, so in the morning I'll take a few pics and get them up.

I had 5% in the rear and 15% in the front windows on my old Mustang 97 convertible. I liked it in the daytime but at night it was like someone just spraypainted my windows black, fairly hard to see. You should really go to a tint shop and check it out for yourself in front of your eyes. Pictures can look different. For example, if the picture is taken outside with the sun out, the tint will look like 10x lighter than it does lets say in your garage because of all of the light that passes through your front windshield. Any decent tint shop should have at least 5%, 15%, 20%, and 35% tints.

Tdxflex, did you ever get pulled over for having such dark tints. if so was it a big fine????
| gary501 | 12-31-2001 09:06 PM |
i have 5% on ALL windows, the fine is $200 and you have to remove the tints.
I just drive with the Windows down. :)

My eyes are really sensitive to sunlight. I was getting tired of worrying about the cops and my tint. So, I went down to my local optometrist and they hooked me up with a tint waiver. Cost of the doctors visit = $60. It's worth the piece of mind.

you can have it as dark as you want it on the back windows its the front they care about

I had tint on my front windows. It just wasn't worth it. I would get cops following me and pulling me over. And the evil eye man, I pulled the tint and it does draw alot less attention to the car.
| Redwinger | 01-01-2002 05:20 PM |
thanks gary, that looks good. if that's what is legal in CT i think i'll end up getting it. a nice cheap dress up. is there anything i should look for when choosing between different types of tints?
| Redwinger | 01-01-2002 05:21 PM |
oops i thought those were legal. damn, so does anyone have a pic of what legal tints look like?
| Ikonosin | 01-01-2002 05:29 PM |
TurboSti, what do you mean anything on the front windows is illegal? You must just mean in your state. In Oregon, we can have 35% on the front, and much much darker on the rear. I tinted all of mine 35% just so it looks uniform.
Here's mine

It is NOT illegal to have your front windows tinted in PA.
I repeat NOT ILLEGAL want proof. Ok I will show you why?
The only LAW against tintin windows in PA is FMVSS205 a federal tinting law and it can be found
here
Why Window Tinting is Legal In Pennsylvania?
Window Tinting is Legal in Pennsylvania because neither the Statute, which the legislature has enacted according to the will of the people, nor the Regulation, which the Administration has passed to clarify the law, prohibit it.
TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that
(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.
Note that the law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. It does not prohibit all tinting or tinting below 70%.
The Law therefore implicitly permits any tinting which does not prevent a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle.
Last if you want more information it can all be found By Clicking here
ps. I pulled all my info form that site.

I have 20% and it looks great but isnt so dark that the cops all eye your vehicle - whatever you do get the same tint all the way around (except the windshild of course!) otherwise it looks really really bad..
also, I'll pass on the first piece of advice I was given in regards to a dark tint, when pulled over, immediately roll down your windows.. its not to hide your tint, its so the cops can see inside and dont get nervous.. theres nothing worse than a nervous cop.. if you do this they generally dont hassle you about the tint..

DjBunny About your friends ticket:
I never said you WONT get a ticket, I only said that it is not illegal. Cops still think it IS illegal, if you went to that site and read more you would understand. What I am sayign is the legalities of it, not if your gonna get a ticket or not.
If you DO get a ticket then what you should do is fight it if you have the tiem and willpower to do so, especially if they are trying to force you to take off your tint.
IF you read the site it will let you in on all the info.

front 2 windows are illegal in CA (as many have said) - regardless, mine are tinted 50% grey
back 3 windows are tinted 20% grey
back 3 windows are tinted 20% grey
| Stealthbmbr | 01-04-2002 03:39 PM |
In MD, the tint can only block out 50% to be certified by state police. If you put 35% tint on your windows( it only allows 35% of the light in) you will be getting a repair order. The state looks at it as blocking out only 35%,(has to let in 65%), the tint companies look at it as letting in 35%,(blocking out 65%) this is why so there is so much confusion. Plus the factory tint on windows is already 12%. Does this make sense? This is how the state police explained it to me, when i got mine certified. The math doesn't add up on 5% though.
