Lexus / Altezza lights. I got them, here's a How To:

I know this will split opinions right down the middle, but I like the Lexus-style chrome/clear tail lights. I got some for my 96-01 RS2.5 and fitted them, and I thought that rather than leeching off the forums as I do, I could finally give something back.

I think they're just plain icky and look tacky on an otherwise nice GC8. I never could understand the pep boy fascination people have with these tail lights.
But if you like them, it's your car and more power to ya.

not bad. im not a big fan of eurolights, but they do look pretty

Dude Man, i cant belive you didnt heat up the taillights to take them out, If you do then you dont need any tools to get it off.

PS: I think those would look SWEET if the chrome portion was painted to match the blue of your car (see the headlight mods done to many WRX).

I personally dont like MOST of the Altezza lights I see around. Seems like most look cheap. I do on the other hand like the style they are trying to go for, the clear cover, colored bulb etc.
I have yet to find some that I like for my 02RS, but I must say, I do like those for your GC8 RS. Not too flashy.
Personally though, when I do find a set I like, I am going to paint the chrome that isnt part of the light, white to match my car =)

You should do like a smoked deal and that would look cool i think

i think they should make an altezza with the clear outer cover, but with the chrome part painted black. i tried doing this the other day, and they looked pretty tight, but when baking the lights, they got all warped out of shape (didn't know till hours later). anyways, good idea: black altezza lights.

For the love of Altezza's, please tell people to heat the goo from the inside with a hairdryer. Trying to "pry" them out is just asking for trouble!

Hmmm, I didn't even know they had altezzas for a GC body car.
They dont look bad cause they only have 2 round lights in them.

sorry but i dun like them...
too shiny, doesn't match the car too well...(most altezza lights don't match cars well anyways)

that is a great write-up not only for the altezzas, but anyone changing out their lights....good job...
i thikn the altezzas look to bright, with some minor mods they may look good, but to each their own, and good job :D

Nice write up. I hate people that just post to say, "eww, they're ugly"... that really p***es me off.
Looks good, do you have any new full rear shots with the trunk closed, or at night?
I have a WRX, and put the altezza jaguar style on them. I got a lot of criticism from this board also, but overall, people liked them. I get a ton of compliments in real life, and could care less what the forum-jocks think about it...

my 93 tails came off the same exact way, and heating up wasn't necessary (did it in about 100 degree weather, lol). so it works for 93-01. i took my tails off to repaint the car, though, not to replace them with new taillights. i would like some JDMs though. that would clean up the looks on my car a lot :)

Wow. I thought it would cause a split-opinion posting, and I was right :-)
I've added a bit about using a hairdryer to heat the Goo up. My problem is that I live in a third-floor apartment so I can't get any power out to the car very easily. Well - that and the fact that it just didn't occur to me until afterwards. But then that's what we chalk up to "experience" :-)
As for the cost - 230 quid, or about $370. That's kinda steep and I expect the price will come down, but then I had saved up for them because Scoobysport had been promising a delivery of them for nearly 6 months. When they finally came in, they all went out just as quick. I had to wait for the second batch...

Nice write up -- although I personally think the JDM clear and red one's look a hell of alot better....somthing's just not right with those...I dunno maybe if the clear cirlce was red also with a clear center, maybe then it would look a bit better....But hey if your happy, thats all that matters....

I've made one more change to the article to do with the LED repeaters. The wiring on them is back to front. The white should be black and the black should be white.
BTW : If anyone has links to the JDM units, I'd like to see them. I didn't know there were any other types available for the old school Imprezas.

Well I just couldn�t resist adding this. The rear lights of the 2004 STI sure looks suspiciously like altezzas to me. Could there be a total acceptance one day?

No there not "altezza" -- Indeed they made them "jeweled" but I dont see more clear than red....and almost every company now has a jeweled look, altezza style IS altezza style.....u can tell a altezza style light when u see it....and the new one aint...sorry but your wrong...
