license plate delete?

how do i install the perrin license plate delete. i thought the holes would mount and screw into the original mounting holes already threaded for the front plate. the perrin uses the bigger holes that only have that styrofoam behind it. what do i use?

Not sure what those big holes are for, they are on every wrx, must be for some sort of liscense plate bracket that i have yet to see on a car. Not sure how you could attach your plate trim. Thats y we used the liscense plate holes, easier to attach to.

I hate to bring back an older thread, but nobody answered the question on how you install it. I just got one of these yesterday and to my suprise the thing came with washers and nuts. Do you have to take the whole bumper to install this?....I found no other way to do it unless I go to the hardware store and get some kind drywall anchor?
| Mechie3 | 03-26-2007 12:18 PM |
I belive the large holes are for JDM size license plates.
| kracker | 03-26-2007 02:05 PM |
dood, just screw it on
| Kahres05 | 03-26-2007 02:26 PM |
I wish it was that easy.....for one reason or another...Subaru has two approx 1/2 inch holes for a front license plate with no delrin plasic in there or something to attach a front license plate to....when I look in the holes there is nothing but styrofoam about 3/4 inch deep....so if anyone has the answer I'm very curious on how to mount the damn thing.

Since no one else knew how to do it I set off to see what works well this evening and put something up for the record for the next sorry sap who experienced what I just did. The easy fix was I went to walmart and found these "Bell" license plate fastners in there automotive department. They are back and square in the front with and anchor type fitting that fit snug in the holes in the bumper. Once tightened with the plate and hardware installed I gave it a pretty good pull and the thing is rock solid.

The plate delete is a great look. Its pricey for what it is, thats why you get someone to buy it for you for your b-day or whatever. :D

Seriously...? Guys, the dealer should have put 2 holes in your bumper unless your state does not require a front license plate. If you look closely you will see 2 dimples (they are not totally obvious but you should see them) on the bumper. Take a look, the license plate and the license plate delete holes should like right up. Take a self tapping screw (one with a point on it) and screw into your bumper. That is the way it is done, don't use the big holes for the JDM plate.

Negative there Ghost Rider. There are two holes for taped screws and two smooth more oval shaped holes "e/JDM holes.
The "PERRIN" license plate delete which this thread is about DOES NOT utilize these regular license plate threaded holes.
They use the large E/JDM holes. Hence why it has a bolt and nut method rather than a self tapping screw that comes with it/
My ONLY guess its so some chump doesn't walk up unscrew your 50 dollar investment in 15 seconds.
Theft proof.......................instead they just take the whole car.
But, from the looks of it. You have to take the bumper off. The front core support it blocking any way of putting it on without taking it off.
I just throw it on when i finally get around to doing my FMIC.

You could use the pop in plugs like are used to hold on our wheel well plastic fender peices (insert real name here i forgot; the peice that hides our snorkels). Those are not super clean, maybe at an autozone or pepboys they might have some they use on their hondas.
No worries WRX Fan, im a sarcastic bastard so i suspect everyone else. :D

I wouldnt want two bumps on the front (at least on the subie), id rather have a flat plate myself.

Who gives a s***?
The large square holes everyone is SO amazed by, are made for inserts that accept the license plate screws. BELL sells a license plate mount kit (that includes the plastic inserts) that pops right in. You can find this kit in any Autozone or Pep Boys. The Subaru dealers just went CHEAP when mounting the front plate, by just self tapping a screw through the urethane bumper "ruining the finish".

He gives a s*** because he's trying to help you out by producing a plate delete. It's a very nice product, but has been a controversial issue because of infringement.
So to re ask Blueboxer7's question... How does Autospeed sell their plates without infringing on Subaru's trademark?
