Drill two new holes in your front bumper

depend on the one you get. somebody here custom made one that attaches to the fog light cover bolts. do a forum search.

here's an evo8 for reference.

Why the heck would you put a front license plate on your car:confused:  Mine only gets put on long enough to go to traffic court to have the ticket dropped:D
UncleMeat 08-03-2003 04:21 PM

I think it looks better to have a plate than two holes... at least on more boxy shaped cars.

no plate:

If i do that wont i have 4 holes? also when if so, wont the license plate move around/lossen and start scratching your car?

I dont want a fog light cover..... that thing looks ugly on my 04. Beside i want my foglight :D

Maybe i'll go to a mitsubishi dealer and ask them....

Try mounting it "under" the grey plastic bar below the normal plate mounting lacation ,after you bend it to 90 degrees.
IronMonkeyL255 08-04-2003 12:26 AM

That looks much better than mounting it to the side...

So i bend the license plate 90 degree and drill it under the plastic?

is the plastic solid or hollow inside? if it's hollow will it move or did you bolt it on with nuts?

WAIIIIT!!!

dunno bout where you all live
but i had a friend who recently got a ticket. He did it kinda differently though.
Instead of bending it, he basically cut off the top and bottom potions of the plate. The plate numbers were still readable, but he still got a fix it ticket cause of it....

just an FYI...

continue =)
exhondaguy 08-04-2003 08:11 AM

but mounting it to the side is MAD JDM YO. seriously if you want to do this make a bracket on your own using parts found at home depot. Drill holes on your bumper above the foglight on the underside and attack the bracket you made that way. You cover up 1 foglight but at least you FMIC will get all the air it can get. That way if you ever change your mind or don't ever get an FMIC you can take off the bracket and nobody will see the holes. okay chief?

Still looks better without the plate. Try getting one of the chrome plate hole covers. Those are very cool.

OMG I didn't know that. I gotta figure out how to get a side-mounted plate on my STi then! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me how to do this???
JIN 08-04-2003 10:24 AM

I just asked my Evo friend to help me order the Evo 8 license plate bracket. When I put them on, I will take a pic and show it to you k? Thinking of mounting it inbetween the intercooler and the fog lights, covering a little of both, on the driver side too, just like the evo ... think it will look really fierce and good.

ha-evolution 08-04-2003 12:42 PM

I was joking. Anyway, what kind of car are you going to put this on. I would be curious to see how it turns out.
VipersEatLotus 08-04-2003 01:18 PM

if you put it to the side and you don't have a FMIC then that would be ghey!
ha-evolution 08-04-2003 01:23 PM

Maybe they don't want to block their radiator to get better cooling performance :D
VipersEatLotus 08-04-2003 01:29 PM

you are right what was i thinking..... :D
Brad Nely 08-05-2003 12:08 AM

Hollow?
It has dense foam inside.
Works just fine, nothing else needed, just sheet metal screws.

I am not worried about being pulled over for that alone.
It's when you don't have a plate at all or a european one and no real plate. I got 2 tickets in my 98 GTI VR6 for the european plate and bo real plate.
Kickz107 08-05-2003 12:11 AM

All I did was attach the plate to the front mounting holes, but I used the bottom plate holes to attach it.. I swear I'm starting a new trend.

Please ignore the homophobe's opinions. If he has to call things ghey or gay obviously he doesnt have the cognative abilitys to contemplate the asthetic merrits of car modifications.

Get a JDM plate then, they are about the same size as our. A bud has one on his Supra and he hasn't been hassled about it by the polizei.
VipersEatLotus 08-05-2003 09:57 AM

Oh I am sorry let me sound less of a homophobe and be more PC about it: it would be homosexual. Maybe I struck a chord with some repressed feeling from liigod by being so crude. My apologies.

As far as attacking my abilities on not understanding the AESTHETIC MERITS (note the correct spelling) of car modifications...shove it.... its called opinions...if you don't like them then don't read them...

Let me restate it for you: it would not look cool...if you had an fmic it would look cool because it would show off the fmic...it would be a useful modification and it would be very aesthetically pleasing. If you didn't have an fmic then it would be like "hey that guy's license plate is to the side so we can all see his ugly radiator...."

As for brad's mod that is cool and what you can do is get those chrome metal brackets that cover up the holes.... just to add more of an AESTHETICALLY pleasing look.

Sorry for being so crude in my last statement  just my OPINION...
Spenk 08-05-2003 11:00 AM

FryRice 08-10-2003 04:45 AM

Well the reason i want it on the side is because it looks way better :D and i want to get a FMIC also. The front looks so damn ugly.

Jin as soon as you mount them on to your car POST THEM PICS
LOOK AT THE BANANA DANCE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Actually, my wife's gay boyfriend calls stupid things "gay"...I dunno what this says about him, but I don't think it's necessarily homophobic...
JIN 09-12-2003 10:36 AM

Ok Guys, as promised ... sorry for the delay ... got too slow in putting them on and stuff like that ...

Not too sure how to post photos ... so just check it out from this link k?

Its not too bad right? I kind of like it ... bet you guys can hardly make out my FMIC.

Jin
Ikonosin 09-27-2003 06:39 PM

Hey JIN, do you have part number for everything needed to do this? Did you have to modify the EVO bracket much (or at all) I'm ordering a FMIC next week, and want to try this mod out.

Hide a plate another nice option
however maybe not possible on some of the lowered cars

http://www.mustangcards.com/plateholder.htm
blukestrel 09-29-2003 05:25 PM

Jin's car looks pretty dope, and the side mount makes sense if tickets and a FMIC are a problem. But does it pull to the left from wind drag? Maybe you need an oversized passenger mirror to balance it!

A euro plate might attract unwanted attention from cops, but I haven't had any problems (he said, jinxing himself) in two years without one. I got one for my old 2002, but it was missing a front bumper at the time too. Usually cops pull you over from behind, not in front, and won't bother to turn around for someone missing the front plate- will they?
