Lookin' for aluminum shifter trim for GC8... Where to find?
UPDATE 3/2/2002 - See the first post on page 2 of this thread for a response I've just received from Nitosport in the UK on a possible group buy on some great stuff that they have...
KenG's link to their website further down on page 1 will show you what they have to offer....!

Hey. Well most of us know that the new bodystyle Impreza can have the STi shifter trim fitted to it. I, however, am a GC8 owner, and want some for myself. Problem being, I don't know where to look. Does anyone know of a company that sells any? I thought maybe some California-based place must make some.... Honda products are a dime a dozen, one of them must have a Subie application out there somewhere...
Thanks. :) I'd rather it not be too expensive. This is just a simple ring of metal, after all.

sorry Siper, but it does not exist. The closest you will find to a shifter trim would be a company called CONRERO. good Luck.- Stephen

Bah there must be something out there. :D I mean companies like Joshua Tree at woodtrim.com produce wood/aluminum snap/stick-on kits for many cars, but they're whole sets. Not sure if they have any Subie stuff...
Just figured there's gotta be someone. And some people can machine things if they're good with metals, so people talented enough who wanna try, this is prodding for them too. :D

Siper- WRX_ONLY a wonderful vendor here on the I-club has given me an STI shifter trim for a new WRX. He has given it to me to see how much modification would be needed to make this GDA peice fit on our GC8. i will try everything I can to get this to fit. i will post in the vendors forum as soon as I reach my conclusion! I think that is may fit...let's hope!

Even on the WRX, modification is needed to make it fit...I'm sure it wouldn't be that different for a RS...

Where'd you find THAT??? I've never even seen it! Is it for the old or new style car? Old is what I need. Price seems still high for a sliver of metal, but it's better than the STi trim's cost.
Please let me know. That door sill trim looks good, too. I got some on another group buy a while back, but it didn't fit very well, especially in the rear. All of it required glueing to make it fit, too. I was disappointed. Like the knob, as well...
As for the "mod" required for installing the trim in the '02 cars, well.. I personally don't consider it modification. You're drilling holes, yeah, but.... Hmm. Depends on your definition of a mod. :D
The STi trim is obviously an exact fit, you just have to make the holes yourself, on a non-STi car.
adamsrs, do let us know what you find out. The only problem I personally have is with the STi trim's cost, and I'd rather not plaster STi all over my car TOO much, when it isn't one. I already got a couple STi badges for my fenders, only because I have the V5 suspension. That's borderline for me. :)

Chunky_chicken was going to make some for the new age, but haven't heard anything lately. Maybe he'd be willing to make one for the GC8s too.

Hey, if the price is right, that's cool with me. :) Do you know the original thread?
| TaiChih | 02-07-2002 04:15 PM |
That trim is real nice from CCB, and I don't mean to dissappoint anyone, but adamsrs, the WRX STi shifter trim will NOT fit on the RS center console. There is not enought space on the sides to attach such a piece AND the center console is convex, not flat.;)
| adamsrs | 02-07-2002 09:00 PM |
Oh well it's free. I can just sell it if it doesnt fit!

FYI,
The GC8 shifter trim shown above is made by www.orciari.it and www.cc-b.com is their official US distributor. I've gone to cc-b's website but it's not working yet.

adam,
What exactly do you mean? Is it too big or is the shape not compatible? Do you think it could fit with a lot of modifications? Please post a pic showing us what you mean. Thanks!

It is too big. the RS shifter is lower than the rest of the dash and the trim wont fit down in the hole. the WRX has a flat shifter area so the trim just sits right on top!

| Siper2 | 02-27-2002 03:29 PM |
I already Emailed them, asking if their products can be sold in the US, or outside of the UK at all. We'll see if I get a response--I'll let you guys know, either way.
I'm personally probably not interested in carbon fiber, just aluminum, and foreigner's kit is what I'm after, but.... I DO like the stuff on that UK website. :D

Hi Christopher
We can ship to the states no problem. Our gear leaver surrounds come with a real leather gaitor normal RRP £89.99 but if there are a few of you who are interested we can do a deal on the price. We post via parcleforce which would be with you in 5-7 days. We also accept all credit cards.
What model is yours? We do these for all MY's.
Regards
Jane
Cool, huh? :)
And here is a large part of the reply I'm working on right now...
Jane,
Hello! Thank you for the response. On i-Club, most of the models here in North America are the pre-2002 Impreza 2.5RS and 2.2L versions, as well as the 2002 WRX, RS and TS new style. My particular car is a 2000 2.5RS.
Let me ask you what you probably will think is a silly question: this "gaitor"... I assume that's the shift boot?
Different terminology from island to island, you see. :) I personally already have a real leather one with red stitching, one of a bunch that I had made up from a leather shop elsewhere in the States, during a group buy last year. However if it comes on the surround, it's not a problem at all!
Quite a few people have expressed awe in your products; I agree, they're quite nice. Personally I'll probably have to wait a bit to purchase, unless I throw it on my credit card... not preferred, since I'm low on cash right now, but I'll manage. However I'm sure that a group purchase of some sort could be possible.
I'll keep you all posted!! Let's express some interest, folks!
Chris

Looks like they can replace the whole center console piece with a carbon fibre bit... Very cool...
Jane at Nitosport says they can negotiate a good price, so.... :)

AFAIK,
The parts are not CF but "carbon-fibre look". Too bad.

Hmm, guess that's true, but I personally could care less. Why?
1. It looks a hell of a lot better than the junk CF-look kit that Subaru offers...
2. The cost will probably be WAY lower than it would be for the real deal.

We just got back from a Winter Rally, when things settle down we'll get back to work on this project. The New Age WRX prototype is almost ready, and we're looking at doing something for the GC8's (since thats what the Rev-Lab staff all have!) :)
