Medium sized wing for the WRX part 1

Medium sized wing for the WRX

Is there such a thing? All I've seen out there for the WRX is either factory or huge 22B style. Is there any along the aftermarket pipeline that is somewhere in between? - more aggressive than the factory wing yet won't draw as much attention as the rally variety?
Burnout 07-12-2001 01:30 PM

Im sure this STi GT spoiler want cause that much more attention but be ready to shell-out a hefty $1600.

yeah, the STI GT wing is nice...but at $1600? ouch!

I've seen a wing that's offered as a limited edition in Germany a while back...it was pretty nice...and if it can be just a tad bit bigger, it would have been perfect.

So what's with the aftermarket scene? You'd think that the WRX's wing along with the headlights would be an area that would get alot of attention.
Medium sized wing for the WRX
ehhhhh, the 22b wing is not really medium sized...its more like...massive...
Kostamojen 07-13-2001 04:04 AM

Do you mean something more like the german spoiler?
ylexot 07-13-2001 07:29 AM

I saw the GT wing somewhere for something like $1250. It's still too expensive for me, but if anyone is interested, I can try to track it down again.

I would love it if someone made a replica even it it was painted fiberglass. (hint hint vendors :) )

hey burnout...

i like this pic of the STi wing from the rear...other than the idiotic sticker that runs across the car, it's pretty damn sweet.

That carbon fiber wing is the one I want. Unfortunately, $1,600. But I think I saw it on the Takaikaira website foro $1,000-1,100. Still pretty costly though.
ylexot 07-13-2001 09:03 AM

I just re-found it while searching for something else.

TRi Tuning has it for $1280

Takakaira has it for $1084, but shipping might kill ya.

functional or purely aesthetic?

hey, does anyone know if this STi wing is functional (causing downforce), or is it just for looks...like that ugly stock wing??

db97
ylexot 07-13-2001 09:51 AM

The Cobb site says that it was designed in a wind tunnel, so I would assume that it provides some downforce. It may even reduce drag!
Leonardo 07-13-2001 10:12 AM

I want it and I'll stop at nothing to get it!

or

It shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine!

dude...

that is SWEET! how much did you lower your car? what kinda suspension setup are you running??

much props to that black beauty..."once you go black, you never go back!"

Burnout 07-13-2001 12:25 PM

Yeh, You suck.
hp12c 07-13-2001 12:57 PM

The GT wing is sweet...

The 22B wing can be nice too...but unless I want to turn my REX into a full blown rally racer, that's probably a bit much.

You guys have seen the German wing right? If it was only a bit bigger...it would have been perfect.

As for the GT wing...is it possible to do a group buy on that thing? If there's a way to get it right at a $1000, I'm am sure it will be hit. I mean the 22B wing goes for $600 right? - But that needs to be prepared and painted. Depending on which body shop you take it to, it can easily cost another $200.

The GT wing tho. is CF, and can actually serve a function in normal freeway driving. IMHO, it also looks a hell of a lot better than what's out right now.
ylexot 07-13-2001 01:10 PM

Good idea. I just emailed TRi Tuning to see if they would start one up. That'd be a whole lotta money coming in.

NeoGeo 07-13-2001 03:02 PM

Yeah the GT wing is the best one I've seen so far. The other medium sized one is fitted on prodrive's UK300 WRX...kinda ugly though. Plus, the GT wing is 2 step adjustable.

I would be interested in one if the price can come down to 1k or less.

Just spoke with a guy from TRI and found that they do not do group buy on the STI GT wing.

However, their price of $1200 includes shipping directly from Japan.

Tough decision...$1200 is a bit much for a wing, but to me, that's the best looking one in the market today.

Any other suggestions?
Leonardo 07-13-2001 08:11 PM

Robert, you suck hard!!!

Damn, that wing should look hot on my car! If TRI can get it for that price, I might be in!

I hope that is the CF wing and not the price of the aluminum one.

I want this wing soo bad, I'll trade it for my front/rear STi Ver V seats!

Selling the seats for $1,200 plus shipping!

kevinsUBARU 07-13-2001 09:13 PM

As crazy as it sounds, I believe the stock wing is functional.
Burnout 07-14-2001 12:34 AM

Yeh at 120mph.
HM3SC 07-14-2001 05:31 AM

shawrf1 that wing looks great! Thanks for posting the picture.

I also have a black wrx, and just ordered the STI CF wing and a Griffin body kit. Glad i made the right choice with the wing...after seeing your car.

I got the wing for $980 plus shipping - from japan.
shawrf1 07-14-2001 11:28 AM

There's been some confusion overseas of which 'STi' wing for the WRX is which... I was inadvertantly sent the wrong one (made by Tommy Kaira) before getting this CF one... and benefitted from the deal. Hope they're sending the right one! :p

Waiting for a vendor to throw their best price on the table!

Why Subby parts so EXPENSIVE!!!

I noticed that Subby parts are damn expensive!!! A decent looking wing, I read somewhere in the forum, was $1600!!! What kinda deal is that??? Okay frustration out...
Barney 07-21-2001 11:13 AM

Price for wing.

If you look closely at the second pic, you can actually see the website name on the back of the car, it's:
http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp
I looked on the site and the price is posted as 128,000 Yen, using a web based translator, that came out to about $1050 USD.
I emailed them (in English!!!!!!!) asking for a shipped price to the US, if i get any response, I'll keep everyone informed.
Since the retail price is $1050, surely someone could negotiate a better price for a GB...Hmmmmmmmmmm... that gives me an idea..

Part number for STi carbon wing

ST121004S000

:D :D :D
nomadtw 07-25-2001 05:58 PM

now...could you go to your local subaru dealership and give themt aht part number and get them to order it?
Hookem 07-25-2001 06:43 PM

Re: wings. I've pretty much decided that it's a waste of money. It's just my opinion of course. By the way, I heard TAMPAX makes pads with wings that really works and yet understated.

I've been thinking about these lifters for the stock rear wing...

If you read the STi site carefully you would have noticed that they will not send you the STi wing or any parts for that matter. Look at their notice.

"STI are not allowed to handle orders outside Japan due to exsiting contracts between Subaru and Overseas Subaru Distributors. Kindly please contact local Subaru dealers in your country for any inquiry."
Barney 07-26-2001 07:49 AM

Yes, I can read too.

OK, I'll state the obvious then.....
Subaru of America is not the only source of Subaru parts in the USA.
Subaru STi in japan is not the only source of STi parts in Japan.

Hopefully someone can help by finding an alternative source.
