Montreal???
Just a few days before the race, and there is absolutely no passion on the board. Was it Austria? Or is it just Ferrari's dominance? Nobody seems to care anymore.
Well, I'm leaving for Montreal tomorow anyway. Here are my predictions:
1. The stands will shake like an earthquake the first time JV drives past.
2. Jacques will qualify fairly well, but will crash out attempting an heroic - if ill considered - move.
3. If the Ferrari Challenge (F355's and 360's racing) is one of the support races, Dr. Steve Earle from Houston will smoke the field once again.
4. It will still be impossible to get into Jacque's nightclub Newtown.
5. The beer will flow like.....well....beer.
6. I will sit in grandstand 21 at the pits hairpin, and will wear my subie hat at least one of the three days. NB: a Montrealer friend tells me that they have redesigned the runoff area at the hairpin and that it looks ripe for more action.
7. Rue St. Denis and Rue Crescent will be hopping.
8. The strippers on St. Catherine's Street will make a fortune
9. I will lose even more of my hearing from the beautiful sounds of the cars.
10. No one will confuse me with a pit babe.

Predictions:
ABC's commentators will still suck and will make more crazy predictions that won't come true and will, yet again, go far out of their way to jinx the winning driver 4 laps from the end of the race by congratulating him on his win.
JV will do surprisingly well, finishing somewhere in the points.
McLaren will be an improved team from their Pre-Monaco status, but won't be at the front of the pack.
Kimi will crash or his engine will blow... or both.
MS will win, and Barichello will get 3rd or 4th.
JPM and Ralphie will both finish high in the points.
Danny Sullivan will wax romantically about his whopping single season in F1.
ABC will still show clips of boats sitting in the harbor at Monaco after every commercial break.
I will bitch and moan when ABC skips 10 laps during a commercial break.
My girlfriend will be happy that we don't have to get up at 7:00 to watch the race.

No ABC for me, I'll be there with SoobATV and probably Gooseman.. Grandstand 40 for us -- "In the ghettooo!!" .. This is my first F1 race, so I don't care.
Can't wait to experience Crescent & Ste Catherine on GP weekend, as this will be my fourth trip to MTL in a year, but first GP weekend. .. Hope we make it out in once piece!! ;)
Predictions? Plenty of varied-color, varied-speed blurs ripping by the ghetto grandstand, and plenty of crashing a bit down the track into the "Bienvenue Au Canada" board after the hairpin at the start/finish straight.
Other than that, I don't care. Weather is supposed to be perfect. I can't wait!!

Grandstand 40 won't be so bad. You'll be able to hear the cars screaming up through the gears. Warning: It was on a grassy knoll behind 40 that either Berger or Alesi screamed under full V12 acceleration. Hy ears have been ringing since that day. It is wonderful, you won't believe the sound.
Also, Montreal on GP weekend is really happening. Lat year BMW took a downtown block and had show cars, but the also had both Ralfie and JPM there for a live outdoor to-the-people press conference. Each guy was up for about 10 - 15 minutes. Later we saw JPM drive away in an X5 with a very hot chick.
You'll see me staggering down the street.

And my predictions are:
Ferrari - will dominate entire weekend from first practice until checkered flag falls at the end of the race (dont really want that to happen but something tells me it will)
Michael will win again and Rubens will have another DNF
Williams boys will be fighting each other for 2nd and 3rd - something good to watch, hopefully ABC will have Bernievision again so we can see the fight that unfolds behind MS driving away to victory
McLaren not really sure what to think of them this year - David will finish somewhere in the points and lets hope Kimi can do the same
After all that mumbling I still need 6th driver (not necesserily 6th place - anything from 4th to 6th) and I will really like to see Jacques there he deserves some points after that brilliant drive in Austria, but with Sauber, Renault and Jordan boys around he may have a hard time getting there.
For those of you that will be there watching it from grandstands I know you will have a blast...I will be in Indy in next few months (can't wait to hear those cars screaming on that long straight and going thru the gears in twisty section of the track...the noise is still buzzing in my head after last two years, but it is getting weaker...need to recharge it) :D

Montreal
Well I'm jealous, wish I could go to a race.
ABC is awful. If I hear Paul Page's voice on anything, I have a 9mm and shovel.........
I didn't watch Monaco until it played on Speedvision ( that's right, I didn't call it Speedchannel, now that Fox took it over and turned it into the NASCAR channel.)
What I would really like to see is another United States race.
The Las Vegas Grand Prix, have the cars just scream down the strip, I think they could have a really cool road race there.

Montreal rocks, after qualifying go to to St. Catherine street and you will see every hot car every made somewhere on the street (ok, maybe not EVERY hot car ever made). Last year jaguar, bmw, mercedes + ferrari all had there own little block to showcase cars (even Lambo i think).
I'm going to make the prediciton based on last year, that MS won't come home with the win:
JPM
MS
RS
KR
DC
NH
It's difficult to keep track of all the people going to MOntreal because these threads keep popping up in different forums.... Seems like a significant number of people are going. The only identifying suby gear i have is an old school headband but it'll be too hot for that...

O Canada!
ABC did a great job on Monaco, because they bought bernie vision, which was OK. Just had to suffer through a red bull infomercial from Danny Sullivan, who seemed strangely out of place in the pits...
I'm very envious of all you lucky cats going to Montreal, as I've been to Indy and Long Beach to see F1, but I really want to go see the GP in Montreal. Maybe next year!
I predict:

Michael - He will earn this one on his own...
Rubens - He will chase Michael and keep him honest...
Ralfie - Unless Michelin has another great tire, BMW.Williams won't be in front of the Ferrari's this year...
Juan - Ralfie is stout on this course... JPM will chase RS.
Kimi - If his car doesn't break again, otherwise insert DC here...
Olivier Panis - BAR will have a new gearbox, rear suspension, and rear aero, combined with a new Honda motor... Panis has been fast here, unlike his team-mate who seems to be distracted on this circuit.
Yep, it was too expensive to repair through a body shop so was written off. However, i sold the salvage to someone who is building it into a brand new chassis so it will rise again, and the guy wants me to drive it on track when it's ready to show him the ropes, which is nice. :D
I have Sold my Impreza Sport too this week and tomorrow i pick up my new scoob.
A rather tasty Impreza WRX STi 5 Type RA V-Limited in WRC Blue. :D
Next weekend i am doing a race at the nurburgring in the car. :D:eek:

Yep, they are rare as rocking horse $hit. :D
I have never seen a WRX STi5 TypeRA V-Limited in the UK before.
I have seen a few non STi, WRX TypeRA's and a lot of STi5 4 Door non RA's but this is the first full spec, top of the range 4 door, WRX STi5 TypeRA V-Limited i have seen. :D
This has the 300BHP engine, low gearing, electronic centre diff control, roof vent, Intercooler sprays, 4pot front and 2 pot rear brakes, 22B quickrack (2.2 turns), V-Limited interior with full A/C, Electric Pack, Special seats. It's got all the normal STi5 goodies too.
The car was imported brand new especially to order, has just 24,000 miles on the clock and has been owned by the original person until now (He was part of the Olympic Gold winning British yaughting team, big bugger  ).
I have every bit of history you could imagine, all the Japanese manuals. Basically it's THE luckyist find i have ever had with a car. I picked it up a few hours ago and it's just Awesome.
Price, i got a bargain, i paid $17.5K for it, i think it's got to be worth $25K after i have done a couple of small jobs to it.
Chuffed to bits. :D :monkey:  :p

The STi's are incredible value at the moment as Insurance is very expensive for them, it's almost double the cost of a UK turbo to insure.
I got a genuine bargain though, the normal going rate for an STi5 Type RA V-Limied with this kind of mileage is anything between £17K to £20K. Basically, the guy didnt know what he had. He paid £30K for it new in April 99. He didnt want to have the agro of all the tyre kickers you get when selling private so put an add up on scoobynet and i was the first there.
I know an RB5 would have cost me £16K private and £18K at a dealer with this mileage and history. A Normal UK turbo would be £13K private and £15K at a dealer.
I do have to spend about £600-£800 on the car as it has a few jobs to get it 100% mint, but even with that it's still incredible value.

Yawn,
I guess if you have to drive a detuned car like that instead of a monster 2.5 RS-T you have to do it. ;)

Nice to dream isnt it 63Alpine. ;)
The way this car covers ground is amazing, 1st to 4th gear is pretty mental, 5th is a great overdrive so it wont drive me nuts on long continental trips.
The balance of power delivery front/rear is lovely, much better than any other impreza i have driven, it's very rear biased with the centre diff fully open, which i like a lot.
I'll post some pictures in the galary tomorrow as it's having a mega valet done by the best guy in the UK sunday. :D

Oh trust me, I am not dreaming. My Turbo 2.5 RS could hold it's own against pretty much any production Impreza on the planet. It just has very few stock parts left. But I don't want to get into it here. :)
But seriously, congratulations on the new car and like I said please keep writing about those ring trips. I find them very interesting and very well written.
