My new STi Key + Q?

It arrived in the post this morning :D
I am a little unsure about the immobiliser chpi in my normal subaru key. I have got a classic impreza sport (2001). I am going to find a decet locksmith to cut the key for me, so when that has been done, what do I do about the immobiliser chip so the sti key will work on my car??

I'm not sure if you can bypass it....the chip is there for a reason.
| crmcodeman | 08-03-2006 06:35 AM |
you could always have it cut at the dealer...

So how do you guys to it on your new age imprezas?

Not that you'll like what it says, but it's info all the same ... :(

Thanks for the link. I'll get it cut and just use it for opening the boot (or trunk as you call it).

maybe im dumb.... But since when did 01's have an imbolizer chip?
I didint think that was a concern unless you had an 05-06. I have an 04 and I use teh STi Key without a problem. I had Home Depot cut mine :)

I wanted the STi key but wanted to keep the immobilizer feature. So I opened up my 05 key and figured out what I could do. I took the chip out and made a little key chain out of it! (In blue suede!)
I know th pics suck but here they are anyways!

The '06 chip is inside the keyless entry remote...so I use my STi key no problems at all.

Then why can the dude who changes my oil start my car when I just leave the key?
/me goes to hack up spare key because I'm a dummy and bought an STI key for my 06.

Explain. I thought it was in the key.

I thought about taking my spare key and removing the microchip from it and some how inserting it into the sti key, in the blue bit of the key.

I have both the sti and the orignal key on the same keychain.

Well it HAS to be in the remote for the keyless entry for the '06, because my keychain has:
1) My STi key
2) My keyless entry remote
I don't carry any other OEM key with me, or in the car, yet the car works perfectly. The dealer told me the "chip" (which is like a little square piece of metal) is inside the keyless entry. Hence, when using the valet key without the keyless entry...there is a little "chip" dangling on the keychain. I have had ZERO problems with my STi key. :D Good luck all.

yea this guy on ebay said he was from a dealer and said he just stuck the lil chip from the old key under the steerin column and used the regular STi key to get the car started, so i guess it's tru. i was kinda of skeptical and didnt buy it, but i guess every1 is saying it works now with the keyless remote entry and STi key. so i will probably buy it then. or wut do u guys think?

Didn't for me...just took apart my spare key today and held it next to the STI key...wouldn't work. I also tried having the chip right next to the keyhold, and also sticking it right on the key...didn't work.
Am I retarded?

I have had the key cut now. And I have tried to file it so the key is thinner. It is hard work and it still does not fit  I don't think that the sti key was made for classic (GC) imprezas :(

Your 2.5i is not equiped with an immobilizer chip... so your keys do not have a chip in them and therefore you can use the STI key if you want.
Impreza turbocharged models are equiped with an immobilizer feature... so the keys for these cars have a chip.

Ok sorry...my 2.5i "chip" is NOT an immobilizer, but the "key number plate"...still, it works since the "key number plate" is inside the remote. :D

I had to get the guy to cut mine twice...since it was too snug at first...just get the locksmith to cut it a bit more.

What do you mean "inside the remote?" It is just a metal plate with a code stamped on it. It fact it should not be with your keys at all... it should be in a safe place, in the event you loose your keys you can get the numerical code stamped in the plate take it to any dealer and they can cut a new key for you using that code.

are you really as dense as you're coming off as?
your engine has no immobilizer on it! try leaving your remote in your house, then go down the block... your car will still start with only the key because there is no immobilizer.
the wrx and sti have an engine immobilizer and are completely different ignition systems, so your advice is absolutely meaningless to the original poster with a UK '01 and the responses with the 06 wrx/sti... do you not understand this?

actually that's not all, because they were addressing the problem associated with the immobilizer chip- a feature your car does not have. it was implied that they were not talking about your car, and yet you proceeded to falsely contradict them anyway. if you were really just saying that the sti key works with your 2.5i, you wouldn't have contradicted anyone because they weren't saying it wouldn't work on the 2.5i... they were saying it wouldn't work on the immobilizer equipped cars.
you actually were saying that your immobilizer chip was in your keyless entry remote, which it isn't, because it does not exist. the fact of the matter is, that this thread is about using an sti titanium key blank with a car that is equipped with an immobilizer system, and the only way to do that is to carry both keys around, or to take out the immobilizer chip and carry it along with the sti titanium key.
depending on the size of the chip, it may be possible to embed it into the blue plastic or rubber of the sti key... but i don't think anyone here has the resources to do that.
