MY06 debadging part 1

Squeakywaffle 10-16-2006 07:42 AM

MY06 debadging
Ok, so I know the MY06 imprezas have little holes behind the big subaru emblem badge on the trunk. My question is, has anyone found a good way of masking those holes somehow? I would love to get rid of that and the crappy "impreza" but leave the "subaru" at the bottom left and maybe put one of those AWD badges somewhere.
N/A_junkie 10-16-2006 09:25 AM

the best thing you can do is try to hit some people up and swap trunks. that would be the easiest. instead you're going to look at filling the holes somehow (be it spot weld or mudd *thumbs down*), smoothing out, and repainting probably the entire trunk.

put it up in the classifieds...i'm sure someone out there would probably make a trade :alien:
VXSS 10-16-2006 10:41 AM

I just debadged my '06 this weekend. Been cold here so getting the adhesive off took a bit of grunt work and patience. I found that once you get the actual emblem off, you can spray on a bug and tar remover and it will allow the adhesive to lift and gum up and then simply rubbing a clean cloth over it in circular motions will take it right off with no scratching (old paintshop trick.... NEVER use lauquer, heh). Anyways, dunno why I shared that, but and did, and there you have it.

I dont mind my center trunk emblem. I think your best bet is a lid swap. I would love to be able to aquire a front grill that does not have the Sube emblem. I havent looked very closely yet, but it appears that it is actually part of the grill. Am I correct in thinking this? Might be time to pull out the old body shop skills and fab away.
STix66 10-16-2006 01:24 PM

Yes it is part of the center grill.
I went to remove it this weekend and ended up just washing the car
instead.
Squeakywaffle 10-16-2006 04:32 PM

I've seen some pictures of people who have done a good job fabricating replacement grills out of mesh... it doesn't look like it would be that hard to do, if you're into that kind of thing.

I guess I could try to buy a used lid, but I'm lazy and I'll probably just leave it.

oh also sorry for posting in the wrong forum... it was 4 am and I could have sworn I posted in noobs/faqs but then again I woke up to my cell phone alarm 2 hours later and for some reason I remember trying to plug it into my clock radio to turn it off...? anyway the moral is, I'm not very smart at 4 am. :)

 Just because someone wants to partially debadge, replace them with other emblems/decals, or debadge everything, doesn't meant they're taking away from their car's character... to many, it gives their car a more distinctive sense of individuality.

NOT if everyone and their mother's brother's sister's cousin does it :)
the individuality is shot in this case

#1 reason i have not debadged

anyway...
for the center holes, you could put a sticker over it
other option would be to have it sanded/filled and painted

all depends on the look you are after and how much $ you have to blow :)

oh look cool...you debadged your subaru...so did the blow off valve/intake kid down the street, because he wants people to "not be sure" of whether his car is a wrx or an sti.

Idk, ive wanted a WRX for aslong as a I can remeber and now that I have one, why would I rip off the inch wide "WRX" insignia on the bottom right of my trunk? And then spend cash to cover up things that identify the car im proud to own?

Its not even a new thing its pretty common!
ghibli99 10-17-2006 08:58 PM

Jamie,

My original point wasn't to say that one way was better than the other. I just didn't like the blanket sweep remark that debadging automatically = taking away from a car's character. I think perspective gets skewed on a board like this, too, where a vast majority of the cars (including mine) in the galleries here are debadged. There's certainly not a shortage of Imprezas out there on the road that still have all their badging. :)

waktasz 10-17-2006 10:23 PM

Go for the partial debadge + rebadge.

omgz my platesz, y0!

I would say to rebadge a WRX as a 2.5i, but it looks like that is what you have already...

But wasn't the IBP introduced in 06? Prior to that didn't the blacks have the sexy gold flakies all up in the paint? If not then a swap would be easiest, otherwise buy a cf trunk sell ur current, take the difference as a loss. Or plug 'n paint ur stock one. Either way im pissed to find out that the 06+ have holes.. Might as well just rebadge it as a civic...just as stupid.
spedunit 10-28-2006 05:13 PM

I de-badged my 04 TS wagon purely for looks. When they see the hood with no scoop, everyone know what i have... besides I am not looking for a race. I simply like the way the rear looks naked, a big smooth fat butt.
pointofexit 10-29-2006 01:56 AM

Perosnaly the only badge that realy bothers me on the 06 is taht stupid Subaru in the middle.

When I get my 06 i wont debadge it for a while... I want people to know I actualy have an STi. lol.
Chp_Stix 10-29-2006 02:11 AM

i left the big blue subbie badge but took off everything else on my 06 and just left 'impreza' at the bottom

I want 2.5i badging haha and a black fmic and rs hood and wingless... just like to screw with people

in my opinion debadged a vehicle makes you focus on the lines of the vehicle.

Ok.. So what badges leave holes on the 06 WRX? I have a 06 WRX TR and would love to remove everything except maybe the center Subaru stars/blue emblem.

Also, Rexxyou, Is it me, or is your Subaru Stars/Blue sans the blue? Where can I get one of those, or how can I mod mine to look like that?

Only the blue stars badge in the middle of the trunk leaves holes. The "Subaru" and "WRX" and "Impreza" words badges are merely stuck on.

You do know that if your debadging your car, insted of picking at the tape for hours there is a tool that cost about $6 that you attach to a dril and it takes it all off in about 1 minut. Body shops and what not use them whaen they are re painting a body pannel and it has badges or pin striping on them. It dose not damage the factory paint at all, I use it on New dealer trucks all the time to install Theme Truck badging. Its Called a auto body adhesive eraser. Its a soft non abrasive rubber wheel with a metal stud in the center to attach it to your drill.

On my '06, it took about 3 seconds to get the adhesive off after the badge came off. The '06s in this thread are still pretty new...the glue is NOT hard to get off at all.

he has installed a front mount inter cooler (FMIC) and painted it black. if you look carefully under his front plate you can see it.

Take a look at the Grillcraft grilles - they have a 3-piece upper kit that effectively takes care of eliminating any emblems and/or emblem voids.
