OH NO, I'm ricing out my car. part 1

icantdrive75 01-21-2005 07:57 PM

OH NO, I'm ricing out my car.
I recently got a full sponsorship from decalkits.com. The sponsorship is 625. I don't have to do anything, but if I do this, and send decalkits.com pics of my car with their crap on it, then I get more sponsorships from people like Dunlop, and other **** I might actually want (house of boom is in there, I can get a killer system).

So I want you guys to help me out. Go to decalkits.com and see if there's anything thats not so bad. Anything that might look okay. And hey, every kit comes with a NOS sticker. So I can cover my car them. And everyone will be like, why is he so slow? He has NAWZ!

Do you have a pic of your car now, pre-rice stickers?
icantdrive75 01-21-2005 08:03 PM

It looks like an 04 JBP WRX. Just dirty.

Their stuff isnt all that bad.. I thought all I'd see was fast and furious style decals but they have subaru stuff that you could throw around and still havent it look decent..
mcowger 01-21-2005 08:04 PM

The ModStripe 2 isn't bad:

mcowger 01-21-2005 08:06 PM

You might also see if they are willing to do a 1 off rally car copy.
icantdrive75 01-21-2005 08:07 PM

Yea. I guess those aren't too bad. At least it's not paint. And I can stand to be ridiculed by my peers for a year if it leads to free suspension and tires.

If you guys see anything else lemme know. Thanks for helping a brotha out.
icantdrive75 01-21-2005 08:10 PM
You might also see if they are willing to do a 1 off rally car copy.
I actually know a few people with the full rally car getup on their car, and it honestly doesn't look very good unless it's on the rally car. On the rally car it's like the entire car compliments the graphics. The whole stance of the car suggests race car, along with the graphics. Without the rest of the race car, the graphics, IMO, seem out of place.

Thanks.

Or you could do a custom one, i'm sure they'd cut one just for you.

\/ after looking, yeah, your right, they are the more-conservative ones, but I still say he could have one custom cut.
Lachlan 01-21-2005 10:49 PM

Um, no. If he has to pick something to rice out his car, those are the most conservative body decals on there. Where's your suggestion?
mcowger 01-21-2005 11:48 PM
are you serious?
I'm actually not joking. Of all the decal kits on there, I thinks its the only decent one.

Now, I wouldn't put it on my car, but hey.

But hey, if you had to.

I actually can get a custom graphic. IIRC(If I remember the contract). I have $475 of the $625 that I can use on random crap. The other monies(I know this word exists somewhere) are designated for things like Carbon Vinyl, window stickers, and other crap I don't want.

If any of you are artists and have some graphic designs PM me and I'll get back to you after I read over the contract again.

Thanks again for helping me out.

May I ask how you obtained this sponsorship?

its your car, do whatever you want to it. don't look for vindication on this board tho

does it come with a 10 thousand dolllar stand-alone fuel management system and a motec system exhaust?
May I ask how you obtained this sponsorship?
carsponsorships.com You pay them $89 and they find you sponsorships for 12 months. You have to go to 3 car shows a year. I'm hoping it will open the door to more serious sponsorships.

Danny
Lachlan 01-22-2005 01:25 PM

That's pretty cool--you pay $89 and get $475 to play with! Do they guarauntee you'll get x amount of sponsorship bucks?
humara 01-22-2005 01:40 PM

does this seem like a scam to anyone?
That carsponsorship.com site seems like a scam to sell stickers doesn't it?
You pay $89 to get "$500 worth of stickers" The problem is, $500 at that sticker site is probably only worth about $45. Then you're stuck with giant stickers on your car for a year. Kind of the same as those free ipod sites.
icantdrive75 01-22-2005 01:41 PM
its your car, do whatever you want to it. don't look for vindication on this board tho
No need to use big words. It is my car, and I will do with it as I damn well please, but when I looked at the website I was at a loss. I'm very much against all this silly TFATF crap (even though that is what initially got me started in imports), and rice in general.

I just don't have any money to spend on my car/racing. With a sponsorship, even if it's stuff I don't want, (and I doubt you can do this with graphics) I can, after a year, sell it to someone else. Free stuff is never bad.

I don't see why I wouldn't be vindicated on this board, except by the snootier among you. I'm using rice to pay for my racing addiction. Surely understandable to anyone who has ever raced anywhere.

Motegi rims, APC Euro tail lights, LED Mirrors, Aluminum Wing, and two hot asian bitches. What, you want some of me? I'll smoke you, CUZ!!
icantdrive75 01-22-2005 01:48 PM

True the site sells stickers, but they've got a big vinyl section. Turns out they gave me way too much money, I dunno what I'm gonna do with it. I've got one voucher for $149, three more for $100, then 2 $50 for carbon vinyl, then two more for window stickers and something else. But one full vinyl kit is $149, then what am I gonna spend $300 on? It's spec. for decalkits.com so I can't spend it on sex and whip-its.

Which reminds me, why don't they sell whip-it brand nitrous systems? That would be awesome... Sweet.

are you stupid? I'm supporting you. I'll break down that sentence i wrote for you because clearly you can't read. If you've been on this forum for any amount of time it should be obvious that people here really don't rice their cars that much and are generally against it. That's why these types of posts are dumb. You're just asking for trouble. Do you really expect someone to say they like your ass ugly car with its ass ugly decals? Like I said, do whatever you want to your car, just don't go looking for people to support you.
icantdrive75 01-22-2005 04:41 PM

Ooooo...someone grew up in a familly with a different idea of supportive.

I'm just like everyone else here on this forum. I think lambo door kits are silly. Any wheel over 15 lbs is stupid. And fir on your kicker box is just plain asinine. I'm not expecting anyone to LIKE this crap. I'm asking them to look if there's anything that they wouldn't kick me THAT hard for doing.

If you think the car is ugly now. You just wait until I have some of this **** on it. Feel free to laugh and mock as much as like. But don't knock the car the way it looks now. I mean, it's stock...it looks like every other WRX. Except it's really dirty.

Bottom line, I race. I road race, drag race, and do anything I can. I have no income to support that, so I need sponsorships. I can't just go to Prodrive and say hey ****ers gimme a car. So I'm starting out with decalkits.com. Then onto things like Dunlop tires, B&M suspension, and eventually cool **** (vishnu would be awesome, but I dunno if they even sponsor people). I'm working towards a goal.

That said, thanks everybody who's been helping out.

who wants a stupid sponsorship anyway? so you can put someones garb on your car to make them money, and in return their gonna give you junk parts probably. you say your addicted to racing, ehh? what type of racing would this be, on the highway on the way home from work or autoX, etc.. just seems like some scam to me, but to each is own. just remember, like anything else in life, you get what you put in, and by getting some "sponsorship" your takin the easy way out
Lachlan 01-23-2005 02:04 PM

How is sponsorship the easy way out? I guess folks like SubyGal are just dropping the ball huh. I guess all those corporations that get their money from stock holders should have sucked it up and done it on their own. Maybe a decal company isn't the best sponsor, but he's just getting started.
Jumpy 01-23-2005 02:37 PM

OOh, I like this one.

I don't think I'm gonna do it. Thanks to those of you who understood or helped out. I figure that some extra cash isn't worth being excommunicated from the subie community.
DUBLURX 01-31-2005 09:03 PM

wise move. its hard to get legit sponsors and keep them. you either have to race your car all the time and win or have a one off show car. a subaru wrx is not one off anymore. a wrx show car is hard to do. it has to be a convertable. lifted. rock crawler. something weird. then you have to get to sema. then the sponsors will roll in. i have built two 4x4 trucks for sema. its hard to get people to give you free parts. go fast bit was going to take my subaru to sema last nov but decided to take an sti because it the new thing. oh well its cut throat in the car show world. guess my 03 wrx is going to become a two door. :) have fun
the_owl 01-31-2005 09:58 PM

I picked up a few sponsors from the attention I got off this forum. I read into car sposrships com and didnt see anything really legit for sponsors.
The way I see it:
To get sponsored you have to:
Know someone who works for someone
Work at a magazine or in the industry
Spend a crapload of money and then get a few free things.

19,000 hits on a thread about your car and a magazine article did it for me.
Hopefully it will lead to more.
I would like to use my car for my business promotion as well.

wow thats a clever way to get people to go to your "sponsors" website and browse through their products. ha, you prob. just gave them more exposure than by putting any decals on your car.
icantdrive75 02-01-2005 05:15 PM

I think if it were gonna be good advertising it would have to be in a market where people would actually consider buying their products.
