Looks good, duder! :)
| tasq | 06-25-2005 06:43 PM |
looks ok... I think it should have been bigger...
Here is what I did

Removable, about an 80% reduction in bent fins.
Intercoolers temps did not change at all after this mod...
Ps... Sorry for the huge pic :P

You did a dead-on copy of the "WRX" logo. Looks nice. Next time, be proud and make it larger. :)

I like the idea, I may just do it to my front mount.

thanks to all of ya for the compliments...had i taken a little more time and planning...i would have made it bigger. But i'm still very happy with the results.
neuspeed---i used 600 degree engine enamel paint (old ford blue...painted the brake calipers the same color as well).
again...thanks! haha for once i did somethin that turned out well.

Did you have to take the IC off? I want to spray over my STI Intercooler with a black outline of spray? Instructions?
| itjustWoRX | 06-26-2005 04:30 PM |
i used some old uhaul blankets and painters tape and covereed the entire engine bay and bottom half of the windshield. I used thick poster paper for the stencil (just found a large WRX logo pic, enlarged it, printed it out and used a hobby knife/pen and slowly cut out the stencil).
i had read a post about painting TMICs and FMICs and most "preferred" to take the IC out...however i am not an experienced auto person, and after reading that there was no proof of harm in leaving the IC on the car while painting, i left it on.
Just make sure you cover anything that you don't want paint on (which for me, was everything except the TMIC :p ).
and as neuspeed asked me---make sure you use a high-temp paint.
good luck...and once again thanks for all the comments!
anyone else out there paint their IC? Let's see em!!!

tasq.....what kind of screen did you use for that?
| scooby888 | 06-26-2005 09:03 PM |
Hey that looks like my old intercooler! Good job...mine looked good from about 6 feet away but when you got close, it would be slightly fuzzy around the edges of the letters. A razorblade pen is definitely recommended though, I used a straight razor to cut through a cardboard DHL box.

An alternative to make it look bigger could be to paint a bigger outline version in black around it.

^that's what happened. I did a pretty sloppy job painting but I've since cleaned it up a lot by using Q-Tips and nail polish remover. It looks a little bit better now.

If I could find out how to post pics you could see how mine looked weirder than that...wondering if I should do this to my Hyperflow II TMIC...

Haha...this has to be my best thread i've ever started. Now i look at my TMIC and wish so many things:
- I wish i had done it bigger
- I wish i had done it in layers
- more colors
- I want an STi hoodscoop so i can see it from the outside
PLEASE MTV, PIMP MY TOP-MOUNT INTERCOOLER!!!!!

| fantabulous | 06-27-2005 10:56 PM |
does that mess up the intercooler charge in any way?
| itjustWoRX | 06-27-2005 11:01 PM |
I looked up a couple of dyno runs by someone who painted an "STi" onto their TMIC. Before it was painted he was running about 197.5 whp and a couple weeks later, after his TMIC was painted (no other mods) he dynoed at 196.8 whp...but less than 1whp isn't something to go on, for all we know...a couple vtec stickers would add about 2whp. :D
Do some more research if you are truly worried about it.

i doubt that that .7whp was from the painting.... prolly safe to say its fine...

Definately a good move. I got one on my wagon and it is pretty cool to see the WRX logo peeking through the scoop.
