For Immediate Release February 15-16th
Hoquiam, WA- The Subie Gal Racing debut of Carter Subaru Sponsored Burnsie the Rally Wagon, a 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon was a massive success. The team finished 1st Overall in round one of the North West Region SCCA Doo Wop Series Club Rally events. Doo Wops is composed of four separate one-day club rally events. This particular weekends activities, Doo Wops 1 and 2, count towards the NW Region SCCA season drivers points, as well as the Doo Wops four part series points.
Doo Wops 1 an SCCA Club Rally Coefficient 1 Rallysprint, was a bit of a struggle as the team was up all night the previous night, going on no sleep, finishing the rollcage and putting the wagon back together again in order to make the event. This Rallysprint stage was approx 1.5 miles long, littered with huge rocks and massive water spots as itd been raining most of the previous day. The wagon made a good showing earning 1st in PGT, 1st in driver class 2, and 2nd overall behind Jamies former teammate Nat T-Stow.
The wagon handles great! stated Subie Gal Racing team driver, Jamie Thomas, I had no idea what to expect when we got out there, but thats why we planned on making this event - it's the perfect time to shake the car down and the car is just awesome! The wagon's quick and very easy to handle, Im loving it!
Sundays Coefficient 1 Rallysprint was even more challenging than the previous day. The rain fell beginning early in the a.m. and didnt let up until the days end. The stage was run in reverse of Saturdays stage and the water spots were now HUGE waterholes, which littered the course. This made for very little braking room and lots of sideways action. The team flew through the course time and again managing to earn the overall win for Doo Wops II as well as 1st in both PGT and Driver Class 2. Nat T-Stows Open Class Subaru WRX had suffered engine failure after the prior days events, and he was unable to attend Doo Wops II, leaving the door open for the teams first Overall victory as well as the Overall award for the weekends events.
Im just blown away, stated Jamie, This is amazing. Im very thankful to my team and crew members for the effort put in to get out there and get the car broken in what a way to start the season!
Jamie did just awesome, commented Tyler Washburn, Subie Gal Racings new Co-driver, The car was great, this was a lot of fun, and Im really looking forward to Doo Wops 3 in two weeks.
Next event: Doo Wop 3 and 4 March 1-2, 2003 Hoquiam, Aberdeen WA visit:

| Subie Gal | 02-17-2003 01:50 PM |
hell of a difference!
for one, i dont have to fight the welded front diff...
i nearly caught myself palming the steering wheel
and when the power is on.. it's on!
trick is figuring out how to keep it on :)
launches were a tick tricky at first too.. but i think i got that clutch slipping bit down pretty good now...
near perfect event to break the car in...
i'm very proud of my crew and our accomplishments thus far.

It was great fun watching the rally wagon go around! Quite wierd though when all you can here is the rocks hitting the bottom of the car and nothing else.

| Subie Gal | 02-18-2003 04:26 PM |
PROBLEMS? :D
well for one... we got done w/the car at 4am...
as i arrived home at 4:30 i noted that the AC/Air/Heat were not working...
in putting the dash back together one of the relays had arched.. and gone bye bye... so temporarily, i yanked one from the RS... problem solved.
left house at 6am.... arrive at tech at 8:45....put on new wheels... and lo n behold... they're rubbing on the calipers... i mean BAD.... so we took a grinder to the outside of the calipers... problem solved...
had some odd... erm.. nice camber on the pass rear by the end of day one....
and lost my underbody bits and put a huge hole in the floor by the end of day 2.... other than that??? :D
no problems

Jamie has done amazingly well in the time i have known her, every stage in her driving development has been spot on, i am very glad to be have been a small part of that. Very proud of my pal stateside, she works damn hard and earns what she achieves. :D

Jamie,
a little OT, but how do the DMS 50's fit in the wagon? Any clearance issues in the rear?
Also, ride height, and tire size would also be helpful.
I know of a few autocrossers that want to use DMS 50s on their wagons:cool:
could you be a little more descriptive on that camber issue at the end of the day:eek:

tire size 195/65/15 K-series Pirelli's...
ride height -
well we didnt measure it right away... we messed w/the dms until there was enough clearance in both front and rear - then measured ea side from the center hub to be sure they were the same.
i'll get those measurements for you...
the DMS fit just fine!!! had to use sti GC8 strut tops and the adapters to make the rear fit properly (easiest way to do this w/dms...) see pix and description of the process here:
http://www.subiegal.com/SGRacing/wrx%20wagon/2-11%20crunchtime/crunch%20time.htm
camber... well the pass rear seemed way positive... had to swap washers on the DMS (took the gold washers off) and Mike (crew member) adjusted the alignment. Hell, i never even knew the difference in all that mud/water :D
