PR: Turtle Wax to sponsor Subie Gal Racing
January 2002
TURTLE WAX TO SPONSOR SUBIE GAL RACING
Kirkland, WA — Subie Gal Racing and Turtle Wax, Inc (www.turtlewax.com) announced today that they have agreed on a sponsorship package for the 2002 SCCA Pro and Club Rally Championship.
Turtle Wax has been the leader in car care products for over 50 years. America has always had a love affair with their cars and Turtle Wax has been there nearly every mile of the way. Turtle Wax has grown in auto appearance technology largely on the strength of its product research and development. Considered the finest in the industry, Turtle Wax R & D has continually led the way with breakthrough products and concepts.
Turtle Wax Inc.'s headquarters and operations remain in Chicago. The company's facility in Skelmersdale, England forms its international manufacturing and distribution base. The Turtle Wax name is synonymous with automotive care leadership, with distribution in over 60 countries. Even in areas as far away as Scandinavia, Turtle Wax holds a 95% brand awareness. And the green turtle, which has been the company's logo for nearly 50 years, needs no translation!!
Subie Gal Racing will use Turtle Wax products on both its Production Class Subaru Impreza 1.8L Rally car as well as its 2001 Impreza 2.5 RS throughout the 2002 race season.
"I'm ready to put the Turtle Wax products to the ultimate test!," said Jamie Thomas, Subie Gal Racing Driver/Owner. "I pride myself in taking good care of my cars, both rally car and street car… they need to look good! The products Turtle Wax has to offer will make certain that they do just that!"
The Subie Gal Racing team launches its 2002 Club rally season at the SCCA Doo Wops Club Rally March 2nd/3rd in Hoquiam and Aberdeen, Washington.

Congrats! I am happy to see that all your hard work has paid off, and hopefully this will start a trend of sponsorship money and marketing in the sport. (or is that a bad thing for us grassroots types??)
So does this mean that Subiegal will become the shining defender of TurtleWax? TurtleWax flamers beware! ;)

Congratulations, Subie Gal !!!.
I haven't used Turtle Wax products in more than twenty years(mostly I had been using Malms' & Meguires' products), I guess I will have to make a point on using Turtle Wax from now on...
Hopefully with enough funding, this could prove to be a really big break-though year for you.
Good luck.

Some of you guys have such a disapointing outlook on life that you look to be negative about something so positive.
Jamie is starting out in a career in motorsport and putting in huge effort to achieve something, she isnt sat on her backside complaining about not being given an easy ride, she is working damn hard to build a top class group of sponsors around her to help her be a success in a very dificult arena.
On top of all this effort she is open and offers her unbiased advice to people on this board about many subjects. What is it you guys want? Someone who offers help to people less knowledgable or silence.
Jamie will be out there to promote her sponsors whilst she competes, they chose her because she gets exposure for their brand and is a good ambasador for both their products and the sport.
Just a final note for those of you that dont yet understand how corporate sponsorship works and never will because you havent the ability to put the effort and quality of work into obtaining it. It isnt essential to have been the biggest user or fan of the product as long as you represent that product in a profesional way. How many of you have seen Tommi Makinen smoking 555 recently for example?
Some of you need to take a look at yourselves and ask why you have to be so negative all the time.
Congratulations again Jamie on gaining such a well known brand as part of your team. I know how much effort and work you are putting in, i dont think some people can really comprehend this.

Congrats Jamie! Hope your season goes well! Glad to see you taking the lead and doing something! I know many of the 'guys' on the board are just plain jealous cause you're out there having fun in your Suby while we work and slave away :(

John -
The last sponsorship endeavor that I headed up, I earned the following in 2 years:
over $40,000 in CASH for 3 major auto manufacturers
free dampers from one of the best known names in the business
free springs from THE best spring manufacturer in the world
free gages from one top suppliers in that category
free air tools from the best known name in pnuematics
free electric power tools from the best known name in that industry
countless other small cash, hardware, and service donations.
I know how to go about sponsorship, which is exactly why I DONT do it anymore. Kissing asses fulltime is not my idea of having fun. Having to take people out to dinner and give tours and write countless newletters... filming silly PR videos.... It all kept me away from what I love... building racecars. Let somebody else worry about the sponsorship...

I am very happy for you Roy, so you obviously apreciate what hard work goes into gaining a sponsor. Kind of makes your post even more in bad taste really.
Jamie is at a stage where she has to do all the work herself and she is doing an amazing job to date getting good names onboard. I for one wish nothing but possitve things for her, she deserves it after all the effort and enthusiasm she puts into the sport and this board.

Jamie,
If you can answer this question....is that what the deal entails? Advertising for them, free wax for you? Or do you get money too? Obviously if nothing else you can approach other sponsors with "Turtle Wax is a sponsor of mine" lines.
