Wouldnt it be cool if it was a Subaru engine?

IIRC Prodrive also tunes Ferraris. Most likely that'll be the marque.

No, it won't, Ferrari already has a team, since 1950.
They may run Ferrari engines, but that is still an outside chance of that happening.
Mosley has also said that they can have more than 12 teams, which would be cool with the cheaper costs involved witht he sport.

The marque of the Engine in the Prodrive F1 Entry will most likely be Ferrari.

Hey spanky, leave the flames for another forum. That doesnt fly in Motorsports.
In all likelyhood Prodrive will be running Cosworth engines.
Anyone who knows the history of Grand Prix racing can tell you that using Ferrari customer engines is no way to succeed.
Richards welcomes new challenge
By Jonathan Noble Friday, April 28th 2006, 08:51 GMT
Prodrive boss David Richards has welcomed the FIA's decision to grant his team an entry to the 2008 Formula One World Championship - but has made it clear that he is not underestimating the task ahead.
Richards, who gained experience of running a Formula One team while being team principal of Benetton in 1998 and BAR-Honda from 2002 to 2004, has admitted that Prodrive are going to face a tough time gearing up to their new challenge.
"An entry is just the beginning," he said. "We now have less than two years to build a team and put two competitive cars on the starting grid for the first race of the 2008 championship.
"The task is enormous and the expertise and experience of the established teams well recognised. However, we have more than 20 years of motorsport experience and all of us relish a challenge."
Prodrive have already announced plans to run their F1 operation out of a new factory that they are hoping to build at Honiley in Warwickshire.
Work on that project is expected to begin early next year, once planning permission has been granted, but in the meantime the team will be based at their current Banbury facility.
Richards is confident that new cost-cutting regulations due to be introduced in 2008 will allow his team to make an immediate impression.
"We are confident that the new regulations will not only allow Prodrive to be competitive on an affordable budget, but will also make Formula One more exciting and, ultimately, even more entertaining for spectators and TV audiences around the world."
FIA president Max Mosley claimed that Prodrive's achievements in motorsport, allied to Richards' experience, were key factors in them deciding that the company should be granted the 12th slot in 2008.
"Prodrive have the best combination of financial backing, technical capability and motor sport experience and are well known to the FIA through their participation in the World Rally Championship," said Mosley.
"Also, Prodrive's chief executive, David Richards, has experience as a Formula One team principal."
Richards believed it was only right that his company moved into F1 after successes in other areas of motorsport.
"This is wonderful news for everyone in the company," he added. "We have won World Rally Championships, British Touring Car titles and the GT1 class at Le Mans, and have been saying for some time that we would also like to be in Formula One with our own Prodrive team. We are now one step closer."
Prodrive have already held preliminary talks with Cosworth about an engine supply deal for 2008.
Lapworth's new gig. Should come as no surprise to people here since just about everyone called this when he left the rally team.
Lapworth leads Prodrive's technical plans
By Jonathan Noble Friday, April 28th 2006, 14:33 GMT
Prodrive have confirmed for the first time that David Lapworth, the former performance director of their rally programme with Subaru, is heavily involved in their Formula One plans.
Lapworth left the Subaru World Rally Team in February on the back of their disappointing start to the campaign. He was said to have moved to an unspecified special project within the Prodrive operation, with autosport.com revealing last month that he was assisting the company's F1 plans.
Following the announcement of Prodrive's entry for 2008 this morning, team boss David Richards has confirmed that Lapworth is currently heading up the technical organisation of the team at this preliminary stage.
"We have a core team put together inside the company," said Richards in an interview with autosport.com. "They have been in existence for three months. We have met on a regular basis, and we will now meet on an even more regular basis, to discuss our position and strategy side.
"On the technical side, David Lapworth is heading that up, and he has been representing us on the Technical Working Group. We have other people already working for us on the marketing and commercial side."
Richards has admitted that his plans for a Prodrive team have long been on the cards and are not a sudden reaction to the low-cost regulations planned for 2008.
"I think I first thought about it the day I walked out on Honda," said Richards, referring to his exit from BAR at the end of 2004. "It was very much on the cards from that moment on.
"We didn't know how we were going to go about it, but the circumstance now and the change of regulations for 2008 were manna from heaven."

Interview: Richards not rushing F1 plans
By Jonathan Noble Friday, April 28th 2006, 14:06 GMT
New Formula One team boss David Richards has said his Prodrive outfit are not going to rush into making early decisions about their plans for 2008, after having their entry confirmed on Friday.
Richards, who has had previous spells as team principal at Benetton and BAR, believes it is vital his team take a considered approach towards their F1 graduation in a bid to make the most of the opportunity given to them by a radical shake of regulations.
Speaking to autosport.com from Prodrive's factory in Banbury on Friday, Richards made it clear that the team were completely open-minded about the way they were going to approach Grand Prix racing.
"We are going to be very cautious over the next few months," he said. "The technical regulations are going to be confirmed in two months' times and, although there is no reason to believe they will be much different from where we are today, we need to carefully understand them to see where the resources are best placed.
"I look at this as an opportunity, and if it wasn't for the new regulations coming for 2008 then I would not have put the entry in."
A radical overhaul of F1's regulations for 2008 means the teams have the option of either building their own car from scratch or running customer chassis. Richards said he was undecided yet about which way to go.
"As you rightly perceive, there are several options open to teams," explained Richards. "I think it is better to wait for the next couple of months and see what surprises there are before we nail our flag to the mast.
"At the moment we have to consider the things with the longest lead times. We are not going to rush out there and start hiring people - that would be inappropriate."
Although Richards has held talks with Cosworth about an engine supply deal for 2008, and is due for a further meeting with the engine-builder's owner Kevin Kalkhoven next week, he has not ruled out the possibility of manufacturer backing.
"Clearly there will be a Prodrive team, just as there is a McLaren and a Williams team, and those teams have often had close relationships with manufacturers. That would be my desired route.
"We have had approaches from two or three manufacturers over the last 18 months saying that if we got an entry would we then like to go and speak to them. So let's see if they are still standing there now."
Prodrive had emerged as the clear favourites for the 12th entry almost as soon as they went public with their application, but Richards makes it clear he never thought they would automatically get in.
"We had looked at the whole thing quite practically. We did a lot of homework and clearly I would have been disappointed if it had not been us, but on the other hand we had no god given right to it. So we are obviously very pleased.
"I had a meeting with the staff yesterday to inform them, and we are looking forward to it - although with a bit of apprehension.
"The easy bit was getting the entry. It is going to be more difficult rolling the sleeves up and delivering on the great challenge ahead."
I don't think it will be a Ferrari...Prodrive did make the Ferrari 550 racecars, but not as a partnership with Ferrari, but they were contracted by CARE Racing to do it. So Ferrari had no involvement.
Interestingly, Ferrari did make their own 575 GTC cars later on, but the Prodrive cars were faster :)
I think it wil be a Cosworth lump, perhaps rebadged as a Hyundai (I read somewhere when the applicants list was leaked allegedly that it was Prodrve Hyundai)

ALSO!! When David Lapworth left SWRT how many people thought he was getting sacked for poor performance?? Myself and a few others speculated he was getting moved up in the company to bigger projects, and the only one that came to my mind was a potential F1 bid... Lo and behold, what happened? Lapworth is heading up the technical side of the F1 project!

Yeah Prodrive would only need 1 engine for the entire year but they can only make 70% of the power compared to what other manufacturers usually make at the same displacement.

Sounds like the Renault way to success.
Any bets on who the drivers might be? I'll take shot in the dark and say David might go after Ant.

I imagine Davidson would defiantely be on the short list. DR might sign him just to piss off Honda.
Hamilton? If the McLaren B-team doesn't come together, Dennis might opt to loan him out, and better to loan him out to a team that won't be causing you trouble for a season or two.

They didn't own the car, just the engine, I don't think it ever qualified though.
I can tell you Villenueve will NOT be driving for the team. I could see Wurz switching over if next year he doesn't get the ride he was promised at Williams since they had a relationship at Benneton in 98. Davidson would probably get a ride just to shut every one up about him. I think he's a good driver but he hasn't done squat in his races and it sort of seems like Button...all promise but no results.

Damn Stu, you're being a bit unfair to Mr Davidson's race results. Two outings in a Minardi and a handful of laps for BAR (before the engine blew) aren't much to go on.

Speakign of Wurz, the Williams teams looks like it's ripe for a shake up. They promised Wurz a shot at a seat and Nico too, that means Mark Webber might be out of a seat. I think that will be a shame because he seems to ge the most out of the car more then a lot of drivers out there. I would like to see Alex w/ a drive though.

Yea, I'm not saying he's been given a shot and failed (first lap failure last year in Malaysia, two DNF's with Minardi subbing for Yoong in 02) but he is chronciled as this amazing driver, but he hasn't really shown anything yet. Give him a chance so he can either prove he's great or fall apart ala Tarso Marques.

Is it just me, or is #3 just as inflamatory, if not more so than #1?
Not flaming or fighting, that just seems a bit hypocrytical to me (and Anti )).
IP check FTW!
Having a second account when your first account has been banned..not so good.

I must of missed that in the rules.
Stu reaching back into the way back machine w/ Tarso. That too is a little unfair. Yes, he did fail but did he ever drive anything other then a Minardi? Its funny to think that he and Alonso were teammates.
He did some tests with other teams, but he was slow in almost everything, and always much slower than his teammate. Remember, Yoong replaced him for the Italian GP in 2001 and the next two races. He ran CART/ChampCar but was out of a ride fairly quickly.

You must have missed that rule when you missed the rules about flaming and making racist/prejudice remarks.
Honda would never loan out Davidson to a team. He is too valuable to them as a test driver...they won't even loan him to Super Aguri...
If Mercedes loan out Hamilton that would be awesome..
Hamilton + Piquet Jr...Kovaleinen? Adam Carroll?
I would like a Hamilton/Carroll duo
Davidson doesn't have that clause anymore. He signed a deal with Honda very late last year to stay with them after it was shown he wouldn't get a competitive drive for 06. He knows Honda is just going to keep on paying him nothing as a test driver and not push him up to a race drive for at least the next few years, he has to move on or he'll never get a drive. I suspect we'll see him at Super Aguri soon, if he can outpace Sato he has a much better chance at a "real drive."

I may be a hot head, but I am not stupid enough to let you goad me into a flame war with a mod. Suffice it to say that I apologize if post #4 offended Stubeck, but I did know that Ferrari has a team, next time I will wait untill the "right" opinion is decided before I post mine.
BTW I have never once made any racist/prejudice remarks in any of my posts. Perception is not always reality.

I'm not trying to goad you into anything, I have midterms to study for dammit, just reminding you of the facts.
As for the racist/predudice remarks, apparently other mods felt differently about them than you.

I have a good feeling that Davidson is willing to leave Honda for a driving seat. No one wants to be a test driver (aka F1 flunkee) at that level. I think he will leave Honda in a heart beat for a seat at Prodrive. With his talent, I think he will be a good addition to the new Prodrive team, if they end up with a dependable machine.

How about a test driver super team? Hekki, Wurz, Baoder, Gene, Kubica, Jani, Doornbos, Paffet, Karthekaian, De la Rosa and Ant all fighting for 2 seats. :)

Read my post, he already has an option to leave whenever he wants for anything. He does not have the "Honda can do whatever the hell they want with me" option anymore.
