What happened to Kiko Seibt in BSP?
| dwx | 09-13-2004 05:38 PM |
I asked that in the other thread and didn't get a response.
Did he try and run race tires for the extra practice for ESP at nationals? I would have if I was him. :)

At the last solo II in Homestead Kiko absolutely destroyed the field.

In STX top 4 all within 1 second!

So, uh, who are all the Subie drivers? Obviously Tom Hoppe is thoppe, but I don't follow you nationals types enough to know who's who.
...And all the n00bs wonder why everyone is so particular about the rules!
And some of us who aren't n00bs still wonder why people get so bent out of shape about it. Maybe if I was an SCCA member I would understand...

I was just emphasizing that with four (STX) drivers within 1 second -- several within hundredths-- that is why some people get "bent out of shape" about rule compliance.
I don't get bent out of shape:) I don't think I've ever protested anyone;) I'm too slow

stxwrxracer is indeed Mike King. :)

Did jsortor really run the BFG's? That seems interesting...
| dwx | 09-14-2004 01:04 AM |
Who knows, although the conditions seemed to be the ones the KDs work best in, which is hot and dry weather.
Corey Ridgick is corey on the board, Billy Brooks is bbimpreza, they were 2nd and 3rd in STS at the finale.

I was wondering that about the BFGs too...

I was personally interested in the fact that there are three Evos in ESP, and they are all listed as 03 Evo VII, which is not a US spec model (therefore not legal for SP) and not the same as the US Evo VIII, which didn't come out until 2004. Did these people mislabel the car, or are they running an illegal car?
| DrBiggly | 09-14-2004 10:30 AM |
Cars that are not sold here in the US typically aren't really allowed to race as they don't meet crash/bumper testing and thus aren't SCCA legal. I'm sure they were EVO VIIIs, just with typos.
Note: Engine swaps with JDM vehicles are legal but a vehicle in its entirety isn't, just like it isn't a road-legal car. :)

| dwx | 09-14-2004 10:31 AM |
The first US EVOs that came out were designated 2003 model year.

Another thing I noticed is that Larry Fine would have been 4th, and barely out of 3rd in ESP in his AS STI, only .4s out of 1st in a stock car.
| ColinL | 09-14-2004 12:10 PM |
the input field for the web results is only so long. they are Evo 8s.

What happened to Neal in SM? 5 runs then all DNSs...did the car break!?
| Warp3 | 09-14-2004 01:39 PM |
...and what is "Two Events" (at the end of the results)?
What happened to Neal in SM? 5 runs then all DNSs...did the car break!?
Engine lost a cylinder. From talking to Neal at other events, it may be the last hurrah for that car. Maybe he'll be driving a Subaru again in the future.
Two-eventer are for people that only did 2 events this year. In order to be eligible for the season championship you needed to do 3 events. They wanted more entries so they allowed people to enter as a two-eventer but they competed against eachother in an indexed class so they couldn't effect the other results.

Looks like Tom took home the win. Congratulations!
Mike ended up in 3rd behind Courtney Cormier. Lots of WRXs in the trophies. Looks like Billy Brooks had the fastest time today.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was wet. The times they ran compared to the guys who ran on that course yesterday don't add up, and I know it was dry yesterday. BS guys were running 6 seconds faster than what STX was running today, SM about 8 seconds faster, so yeah.

Actually Courtney Cormier had the fastest time today. I felt I had left a bunch out there on my 2nd run as well and if it stayed drying it would have been a battle during 3rd runs. Fortunately for me, it rained harder after 2nd runs and everyone except jason hart went slower....
BFG KDs are nice in 90 degree weather when they are up to 150 degrees. Josh was WAY faster on his 2nd pair of runs at the pros then his first. I wasn't banking on it being that hot in topeka. You saw what happened to josh on south course in the dry when we ran first heat. That was 100% being on the wrong tire.

Jeez Tom, still bashing the tires eh? :p My South time would have been right there with King and Cormier if not for overdriving the last bend to the finish lights on my 3rd run. And then there is always my "underdeveloped" suspension too right? Tires aren't always the end all reason for a result. Sometimes it can be the driver right?

This is something I notice a lot and now realize the stupidity of, not that Tom is guilty of it. People often (and I did it too) looked at Nationals results and said "See! This car on this tire isn't competitive but this car with this and this is competitive because car 1 didn't trophy but car 2 did!" And so on. It's silliness, even at the very top there is so much more going on. One data point does not equal a data series, as one of the Croy duo mentioned during the Finale.
I personally threw away a DS trophy with a spin, as without that spin there would be two IS300's in the trophies and one with a top 5 time on the north course. But I didn't trophy so the car must be uncompetitive and on the wrong tire right?
There's always next year. Maybe I'll stick with DS for a while. :) God knows I need to stick with SOMETHING!

Actually, Corey turned in a great time on his 3rd run too. WTG, Corey!! My car trophied!! My car trophied!! I've been dancing a little jig ever since then. For those who don't know, Phil and I were kinda put out because one of the guys from our region tried to convince me to bail on STXL and drive a MR2 Spyder in CSL because "your car isn't nationally competitive". Well, I felt very strongly that if my car didn't do well nationally, it was because of ME, not the car. And this week proved that! :) Having Corey trophy in a car he'd never driven before Sunday's practice course has made me very, very happy! Of course, I'd have liked to have trophied in STXL too - but next time, perhaps I should get my head out of my *** on Day 1 in order to accomplish that...
Back on topic, I think the announcer said there was at least one other person (other than Jason and Corey) who moved up on 3rd runs.

Your car gives up a little in weight, a little in tire, and a little in setup. That just means it needs a little tweaking here and there to be one of the very fastest in the country. :) Soooooo buy now! I enjoyed driving your car, there was just a way steeper learning curve than I expected vs. Steve's car. I can't really explain why.

He's a moron. Your car has the right pieces to be near the top. A few minor shock setting, alignment & tire pressure changes would make your setup pretty much spot-on. I think Corey made a few minor "tweaks", didn't he? Learn from him & kick our butts next year! ;)
