Rally or Street?

I'm trying to make up my mind between the rally theme or street theme. I'm leaning toward the rally theme, because thats what subies do naturally, but I like the steet look all the same. I just wanted to get some outside input on this one. Can anyone recommend a good rally body kit website too?

I voted rally thats what our cars are actually built for, however you can interchange and do both, but it is a bit costly.

Id say rally as imo the US seems to be dominated by the street theme.. personally i like the WRC inspired scoobs :D

It all depends on what your plans for the car is.
The rally theme would be best if you are actually gonna use the car to rally with either in competition or for fun. The rally theme is pretty broad however as is any theme I guess. I'm not sure how far you were planning on taking the theme. If you plan on going all out your new rally car it will not be very fun to drive around daily.(Roll cage, no carpet, no door cards,etc...) If you want to show it a bit you probably won't have the best of luck compared to a street based car. But I'm sure you wouldn"t bother beating on a rally car or getting a scratch here or there.
I'm not sure what your budget is but a Street theme might be a little more cost effective then a rally theme based on that a street theme can be just some wheels, lowering springs and intake/exhaust. Some are fine with that and call it good right there, however there are many(Me being one) that thought they would be fine there and come to find out we become so addicted that we can't stop and soon we have poured thousands into our cars. In my case I thought some wheels and a stereo would be fine for a nice street car, however I got hooked to the so called TUNING Bug and after about $50,000 plus dollars my car has turned into nothing but a expensive hunk of metal. It just basically sits in the garage or at the shop and on ocasion I'll take it out and drive it just to keep me from going crazy. It goes in the trailer and out of the trailer more then anything else. I'm so worried that I'm gonna scratch it or something could happen to it hurting my chances at shows.
Sure some may think I'm stupid for doing this but the matter of the fact is that it all comes down to what you are into and where you see yourself down the road. Either Racing it, Showing it or just hving a nice daily driver with some spunk(Although that probably lead to bigger and better things).
In your case just go with your gut feeling and stick to it. Thru out me and my car's journey there were so many people that made fun of me and my car saying things like("Should have got a WRX,or an STI.", "You spent all that money on a RS.", "I think those wheels are gonna look ugly on there.") and the list goes on and on. Now I have tons of people coming up to me saying how much better they like my car then a WRX or an STI or how "sick" my car is. One thing remained the same and that was I only listened to those who I highly respected in the industry and myself. Once you start to doubt where your going with your project it will soon fall apart.
So I guess I say go with the Street theme cause I would hate to see your STI rolled in a ditch somewhere.;)

Street gets my vote. While rally is fun and exhilerating (especially to watch),
to me, nothing compairs to bumper to bumper tarmac racing. BTCC, Super GT,
Super Taikyu all rule! Its exciting to watch and fun to do.

"Rally Rice" is only slightly more dignified than plain "rice." Real rally cars don't have body kits, they'd just fall off.
On a serious note, don't put racing numbers on your car, it's illegal in some states.

there's a lot to be said about a street theme...
primarily because that's where the majority of subarus actually spend there time- including imprezas.
however, if you are lucky enough to have the access, resources, and skill to do a rally theme that can be utilized... well... i'd say full speed ahead, go for it. so that's where my vote went.

Are you rallying? Then go with rally. Get it if you're gonna use it.
My Vote? Street. Why? Because if it's your primary driver chances are you'll be on the street 98%+ of your time. If that's the case, street is a lot more attractive. Of course, you could borderline (i.e. RallyeX); improve asthetics but in a way that won't interfere with rally driving, then get an easily removable light-bar. Ultimately it's your choice. Good luck with your decision!

if your talking themes, go rally.
if your going to put serious dough into your car to use it for street or rally, id say street, simply because id rather have a track car as a daily driver than a rally car- chances are you will wreck a rally car more often than you will a track car simply because of the nature of the activity your doing. if its not a daily driver, rally the hell out of it. :)

In stock form our cars are better for the rallyX than almost any other car put out on the market.
However if you want an even better car as with any other option " You have to pay to play."
In the latter case there are several vendors here that would love to sell you some rally suspenssion.:D

Ultimately there will be a time to sell the car. I think "Street" would be an easier sell. Gotta look down the road a bit imo.
| dibblejr | 01-26-2007 04:50 PM |
As long as you take care of the car either option will give you the same resale value. Most people put their car back to stock form before selling anyway.
Also both Rally or Street have stock classes ( hopefully you are talking about track and not the actual street) you do not to have any mods to run either legally sanctioned event.

Here's the other problem with a "rally theme," real rally cars don't have a "theme." Take my car for example:

http://www.pbase.com/akuhner/image/66823903
It's just a 1993 Impreza with mudflaps and a few graphics (and the required rally gear), those wheels aren't even mine and they are beat to hell. If it weren't an actual race car and those weren't actual sponsor stickers all that vinyl would just be "rally rice." You want to "theme" your car after mine?! :p
Questioning RallyXpress' car because it's "rally" with "summer tires" is retarded, ever heard of a tarmac rally?! Besides, only a masochist would choose to drive around on gravel tires all the time, they are horrible on pavement. If you want to question something, ask why he has a sweet light pod on a street car? Unless he does some serious night TSDs (his flawless paint says no) there's simply no need. The point of light pods is that you take them off when it's light out - you would never leave them on because once you throw some good lights on there the whole setup is worth $3k+, so why risk it? When on earth are you going to use those? My light bar bolts onto the bumper and has six Hella 500s (cheapest rally light available) and it's been on the car once for one stage.
A WRC wide body kit would look sweet as hell, but even the $150,000 open class STI rally cars in the US don't run those because it's a waste.
