Rear Diffuser for 04/05, update? part 1

RODSCALIP5 05-10-2005 12:04 PM

Rear Diffuser for 04/05, update?
Are there any updates on fitting the rear diffuser for an 02/03 to 04/05? I know someone was attempting to custom fit it. Updates Please :D
DieselClown 05-10-2005 12:29 PM

I did, the rear diffuser section doesn't "reach" the rear aprons so there's a half inch gap in between. I'm going to try to work some bondo magic and post pics when i'm done.

Cool, keep us updated. So the diffuser is too short? How bad is the Gap?
DieselClown 05-10-2005 12:48 PM

the gap is only about half an inch from reaching the side parts. I'm going to see if I can mold a little fiberglass or bondo to make it reach. It looks like its going to work out though. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have just fit the bugeye rear bumper on my car so everything fits nicely. But it looks AMAZING!

Can't wait to see it. Where'd you get the diffuser? Im also looking for one. Do you know if the dealer sells it individually?
DieselClown 05-10-2005 01:01 PM

I'm not sure if they part them but I got the whole 3 piece kit from Subaru.
DieselClown 05-14-2005 09:04 AM

here're a few pics. I also shaved the trunk heyhole but I put the new badge an inch higher by accident! I'm waiting for my new badge to come in before redoing that. She's still under construction still, gotta work out a few minor details.

wow...the pics came out darker for some reason. Anyway, if you look closely, there's a gap in between the apron and the diffuser. I temporarily taped it up with ghetto duct tape so it doesn't looks half as bad. The shop's going to close up the gap by fiberglassing a small section in between but they're packed with cars until 2 weeks.

Um... I didn't think that they made that style under spoiler for 04-05 Imprezas. Maybe thats's why it dosen't fit?

Here is the link for all the Subaru parts for 04-05 Impreza's. There is no rear under spoiler for your car.
03twrx 05-14-2005 11:24 AM

Damn... All that freakin work and you already knew this :furious:
STi-Spec C 05-14-2005 11:39 AM

if only they made this for the gc chassis
DieselClown 05-14-2005 05:42 PM

I knew it was going to take some fabrication. I wanted it bad enough.
Jonnyfilmboy 05-15-2005 05:08 AM

Nice work, DieselClown. Man, I'd check out getting some solid rubber from a scientific surplus supply place like http://www.sciplus.com/. Just cut the piece to fit and secure it somehow. Gorilla Glue would do the trick. Half inch per side? I think it would look fine.

Take some more shots in the sun. I want to see how this adaptation of the 03 kit works! Looks promising!

Other than the 1/2 inch gaps, any other fitment problems?
S1MPSONS 11-05-2005 02:39 AM

Bump back from the dead!!
I have a few questions:

1. Other than the 1/2 Inch gaps, any other fitment/install issues?

2. Does installing this involve drilling into the rear bumper?

3. Where can I buy this set (or each individual peice) for a good price?

Thanks for the help. Any more pics out there?

Were these pictures the result of your bodyshop just bolting them on?

Did this require drilling into your rear bumper (or other custom work)??

Did your body shop ever close the gap?

Can you PLEASE take MORE PICS? Maybe even from underneath the car to show how these were mounted?

If not, maybe I can come see the car in person. Are you in or around NYC?
DieselClown 03-10-2006 04:29 PM

^Update, it's been way too long and I haven't touched it since the last time but right now, it's all completed urethaned so it looks like it's part of the original bumper. Some idiot rearended me a few months back so I just have to get the shop to touch it up. I was actually playing with the idea of having the shop just mold in my old 04+ rear valences onto the existing rear diffuser so it hs more of a uniform look but it's a bit risky.
S1MPSONS 03-10-2006 04:42 PM

I would love to see pictures of what you got so far. The more the marrier.
hanzo918 03-10-2006 05:05 PM

Yeah dude, I want it
tommy_kha 03-20-2006 08:26 PM

would you be able to use the 02-03 oem diffuser with an angled exhaust?
boostedblackwrx 03-20-2006 10:54 PM

I have a 06 wrx, i love how it looks with the rear diffuser on the older cars. it is possible to order the kit and just use the side spats, because i love them and dont mind not using the center piece.
Dan
tommy_kha 03-20-2006 11:38 PM

fitment with angled exhaust anyone?
Loki2x 05-04-2008 01:04 AM

I was planing to try this as well, but without the side spats. Is there anything I should know before I start?
heavyarmscustoms 06-06-2008 01:54 AM

Dude you should sell the rear diffuser to me. Where did you get one? I want.
