fellfrosch7 10-16-2000 03:18 PM

Remote fuel door release

Besides getting the parts from an older Impreza, what does installing this include?
Imprezer 10-16-2000 03:25 PM

I am working on it right now. I am making up a detailed how to with all the OEM parts.
mpaone 10-16-2000 03:41 PM

Imprezer, I know this is OT but could you pleeaasssee make up similar instructions on fitting the height adjustable (Forrester)rail to the STi drivers seat? Or e-mail me with details (?) TIA
Imprezer 10-16-2000 04:18 PM

Will do. Almost forgot about it.
fellfrosch7 10-17-2000 01:17 PM

Imprezer, you are the man... right on top of things. [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img] Can't wait to install the door release once you get the instructions out.
Leonardo 10-17-2000 04:10 PM

Also waiting for the seat instructions. I did the remote fuel door open in my coupe and still to make it in my sedan.

Sounds good North Ursalia, let me know how it turns out, cuz I am still a little on the scared side about leaving my fuel system wide open to vandals.

North Ursalia 10-18-2000 05:39 PM

If you look on the fuel door itself, there is a tab with a piece of black plastic on it. Just pull that off and shut the door- they won't be able to get in (granted, neither will you). Just kidding, don't do that- you really won't be able to get it open- the black tab keeps the locking pin (which is actually there, at least on my 2000 for some unknown reason) from locking the door.
North Ursalia 10-19-2000 12:40 AM

I have the parts and should be doing it this weekend... will take pics as always!

Any word on doing the remote fuel door release yet? I'm eagerly waiting... [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smile.gif[/img]
North Ursalia 10-30-2000 12:22 AM

Partial instructions and pics are available here: http://members.nbci.com/_XMCM/northursalia/impreza/index.htm Look under "all modifications" and "locking gas door" once you are there. I am still waiting on a few parts (namely the pull and housing) and that page will be updated soon replete with part numbers.

Leonardo 10-30-2000 06:45 AM

HI!

You do not need to remove the metal lining nor the plastic ring/liner off, just go to pic #3, after removing trunk liner, insert hand, grab the old one by the little wing thingies and turn. Replace with new one in the reverse maner. then on with the instructions. Just wanted to lessen the removal of parts (did't want to end up with a screw in the gas tank:P) and it was less time consuming.

As to the parts your'e waiting, the cover is not needed because the stock one is made for the fuel one as well, just need the fuel and trunk release tabs and the mechanism where the wires hook up. Found out after I ordered all the parts and was left with spares [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif[/img]

Just remove trunk tab an you'll see opening for fuel arm and tab.

Parts:
Locking gas door - 57601FA000
Spring for door - 57651FA000
Cable assy. - 57330FA030
Fuel tab - 57346AA010ML
Trunk tab - 57346AA000ML

Just curious. Where is the fuel door release installed?

Leo:

How much did each of the parts cost?
Does the Fuel Door need to be painted?

Thanks.
Leonardo 10-30-2000 03:13 PM

The fuel door is different on the older models. First of all, its plastic (or ABS) and second, it has the space for the spring to pop open the door when you pull the tab.

Yes, it has to be painted.

I'll have a price brakedown maybee by tomorow unless Subaruparts.com would like th put together a kit (hint, hint) can somebody give the part # to him? and the idea for a kit as well.

If you pull towards the front the trunk release tab, you'll see where the gas one goes.

Leo
Siper2 10-30-2000 03:36 PM

Depends on price, but I'd be really interested in this one.

Leonardo-

I sent Scott a PM earlier today. I'm interested in a kit as well.

The fuel release goes where the trunk one is now...it's a dual pull trunk/gas. Look at a legacy or older impreza. You use your regular fuel door- you don't change that at all. Oh yes, and thank you for all the part numbers!

Cool!

Thanks Jim!
BrianR 10-31-2000 08:22 AM

Good job so far Brian, i'm looking forward to doing this in my RS soon. BTW, any estimates on the prices for the total of these parts??

Thanks!

BrianR
North Ursalia 10-31-2000 09:33 AM

The cable cost me about $20, the pulls are literally $3 each, the metal brackets they attach to are like $4, and I'm just going to put a spring on my gas door, not buy another one. It's VERY inexpensive, but a pain in the tail to run that cable!

Also interested in a kit. Always hated that there was no release for the RS. I want a light in the glove box as well but ah well.

JZ oo7 11-01-2000 03:05 AM

why can't we just get a locking gas cap? the only reason why i am interested in a locking or remote fuel door is because i don't want people to put stuff in my gas tank. but if i have a locking gas cap, then the only they can do is break the gas door. if the remote fuel door is simple and inexpensive, i would be interested in instructions too, but i have a locking gas cap now, i'm happy with it.

Leonardo 11-01-2000 04:44 AM

I have one too. When my friends cars have them and loose their keys, I (as in my car when I cant find it) open it with another key or small slot screwdriver.

Whoever whants to put stuff in your tank will!

IMHO, A locking fuel door is safer cuz car has to be open in order to gain acces to fuel cap.

Leo

So actually Subaru has locking gas cap as accessories for sale?
Leonardo 11-02-2000 05:07 AM

Nope! But Pep Boys does [img]http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/tongue.gif[/img]

Hell yeah, will it inculde everything, including the new releases for the trunk and door by the driver?

mpaone 11-02-2000 01:39 PM

Lisa, I'm interested in a kit. We'll talk on Saturday.
sugar 11-02-2000 02:13 PM

The kit will include

Fuel Door
Fuel Cable
Fuel Tab
Trunk Tab
Spring

I will post in the Vendor section tomorrow

david2z4 11-02-2000 02:47 PM

I would want the "kit" without the door.

Lisa, please give an option without the door.

Should be around $30 shipped

Hi Lisa, you still need the part where the cable jooks to the front and you put the tab in. Just like the OEM but has the fuel lever. Will get part # tomorow if no one has it.

This part should be in the kit as well.

I'm in for one as well if all is in.

I think that those are the tabs that she is referring to.

Jim
sugar 11-03-2000 12:21 AM

I can make up a kit for $73.00 if anyone is interested.

If so I will put in the vendor section

Jim, I am talking about the little metal fraiming that the cable ataches to on one side and the tab goes on the other, sorda in betwen. It is under the blastic cover you have.

If you have any more questions, just ask!

Daios 11-03-2000 02:10 PM

I don't think anyone asked this... well is the new fuel door all flat? Like if you look at the stock fuel door, theres the part to pull the door open. So w/ the new one, is it gone and no one can try to pull the door? I've seen other cars w/ just a flat (kinda) w/ no place to pull it and the only way to open the door is to pull the lever inside next to the trunk relese. So is it flat?!?

Okay, were does the fuel door spring go?

North?, anyone?
david2z4 11-17-2000 04:31 PM

Got it all installed and working. only thing is I cant find how to atttach the Spring for door - 57651FA000 to the door or were ever it goes. Need two people to open the door.

Not too hard of an install either. About an hour. Well and about a half hour now with the spring.
Leonardo 11-18-2000 10:50 AM

I don't have the kit but seen it. The door is different! It's plastic and has a space for the little spring just above the hole for the lock.
I tried what you are doing and finished selling my coupe with almost the whole kit minus the door and spring.

Now waiting to get another *complete* kit for my sedan.

hope this helped!

Leo
