I'm planning on being there too. We're looking at setting up a caravan from the Bay Area on Thursday, May 6.

Definitely going to be more expensive than the previous years though. Admission to the event area, parking, admission to spectator areas, etc.
RacingBlue 03-26-2004 06:20 PM

Following is some advance info on the owners' car show. The RIM website will be updated with the car show info ASAP. I might add gen' adm (advance) is $10 incl grandstand access. Parking $3. The car show entry fee includes gen admission and parking. Very inexpensive.

"What's going on guys, basically this is in concerns with an upcoming event/car show being held at the brand new Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster, CA. For those of you who are not familiar with Rim Of The World, this is basically a WRC style event, and this being the first ever Super Stage event held in CA, it is bound to be a big event. This is a brand new venue and includes a 30,000 square foot air-conditioned vendors exhibit hall and a side-by-side Super Special stage with grandstand seating to accommodate 7,500 spectators. All service stops will be centralized at the fairgrounds in a lighted blacktop area 50% larger than last years.

Slipstream Global has been contracted by ROTW to assist them in producing a car show portion at this event and it would be awesome to get the support of Nasioc.com out of Socal to come to this venue. Rim of the World would like to see a variety of cars ranging from nissans to hondas to mitsubishis. We are looking to gather around 250-300 vehicles for this event and with the support of you guys, this can be a very attainable goal. The event will take place on May 7th-8th, however the car show will only be on the 8th. Roll-in will be the day of, and car show trophies as well as cash prizes will be presented to those to win. Registration will be $25 per vehicle depending on the amount of vehicles registered, which will include two tickets. Your immediate confirmation would be greatly appreciated due to the fact this is of such short notice. If you have any questions regarding the event please do not hesitate to give me a call, or shoot me an email. Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Fred Chang

Car Show Entry Now Up on Rim Web Site
Hi Friends,

Sorry for the delay. We've got all the Car Show information up on the Rim of the World Rally Web site now. You can down load the entry from or do a quick and simple on-line entry.

Fred and the guys at Slipstream are heading up the Car Show so you know it'll be the real deal. We want to share the excitement of our sport and let the rally community get to know each other better.

Should be a fun day in the sun!

Note the $5 discount coupon on Gen'l Admission, print it out and save.

Note also there is the Magellan GPS TD rally being planned for Sunday the 9th. I ran this at the Ramada Express Rally and it was just great. A lot of fun and as it's not a speed event, toss the GF, kids or Grandpa in the car/SUV and have a great time a GPS handheld is included. Watch for the TD rally update on the RIM wesite soon. Great prizes too!

"Anyone know of any Subaru get-together's planned? NASIOC? I-Club? SOA?"

Sat night BBQ, see schedule. Lots of partys all over. Check the motor home area a few steps from the grand stands. The official hotel the Palm Plaza will rock too after the rally. It's on 10th ave.
NASIOC? They never party, but watch where the beer trucks are parked with flat tires.

Lancaster weather SUNNY AND BREEZY ALL RALLY WEEK-END!!!!!

Paging Bruce Davis / Lee Sorenson
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Lee Sorenson and Bruce Davis? I would really like to come work on their team with them at Rim. If anyone has their contact info, can you please let them know I'm trying to get a hold of them?

Thanks,

I will be around Rim, taking photos etc.

You might also catch me at the Subaru tent (with the Challenge Driving team and the Alcan Baja), or at the Nasioc booth.

I'm 6'5, Australian accent, will be wearing my red Subaru/Challenge/Alcan gear, can't miss me! :)

Come and say hi -- I am sure to give you my opinion on something, STi gossip, or crazy Alcan stories.

Here's an interesting excerpt from an article about the ROTW which appeared in yesterday's L.A. Daily News - Antelope Valley edition:
Also among the racers is Seattle resident Jamie Thomas, 34, who purchased her first Subaru, the car of choice among most rally racers, in 1999 and soon after went to her first car show and race to see other "tricked out" imports. At the time, Jamie admits, she didn't even know how to change a tire.

"The first car came flying by and I was just floored," Thomas said. "I knew it was something I wanted to do."

She was so intrigued by the imports that she became involved as a volunteer with the Rim of the World Rally and not long after became a co-driver. Female co-drivers -- who act as navigators, calling out upcoming turns and dips to the drivers -- are not uncommon, but female racers are a rarity.

"Halfway through my first year as a co-driver, I went out on my own," Thomas said. "At first the guys were saying, She's so sweet, she's probably here looking for a date. Then you start winning and it raises some eyebrows."

Thomas says she understands why more women don't compete.

"It's really a tough sport," Thomas said. "You're looking at 12- to 14-hour days in the car in the dirt. There's no real restrooms out there. The guys can just lean up against a tree. It's dirty and very draining emotionally and physically."
Three cheers for our Jamie who overcame overheating and clutch problems to take a very respectable 12th!!! And, kudos to Patrick Richard who's WRX took 1:26 out of Styles' Evo on Stages 12 and 13 for the lead.

Jamie is a great comunicator and ambasador for the sport, thanks for the link Jon, very cool article. Damn shame Jamie had problems after all the hard work getting there, sounds like it was a major achievement to get to the finish so high.

Yup. I had an intersting discussion with some nice folks from HotWheels about her at stage 9. They're comming out with WRC and SCCA rally diecast models later this fall and I was doing my best to convince them that if they were only going to make one SCCA specific car, Jamie's would be it. Others around us chimed in and agreed. I've got my fingers crossed.
