S203 interior idea. Please read.

So I'm going for an S203 interior look and feel.....
The S203 interior looks like this:

The bezels in the S203 where ours are silver (04+) theirs are black. Not only are they black, but they are "rubberized".
So I got to thinking.....what if I wrapped each bezel piece in a thin mil. rubber sheeting. Would be easy enough...I even found some retailers online that sells it in 10 ft rolls for 20 bucks. Alittle self adhesive, and blamo. JDM hottness.
Then I found online, alot of Spray paint manufacturers are making variously colored rubber spraypaint.
It goes on like normal spray paint....but dries to that velvety rubber compound. Thoughts?
Discuss.

sounds like a plan, you could always try to source some actual s203 dash parts. im sure they wouldnt be really expensive just really hard to get. and if you did imagine the amount of JDM bling people on this forum tyring to get into bed with you.
on a more serious note the paint sounds like a better idea than the sheet stuff. getting that stuff into the tight spaces and around curves will be damn near impossible while having it look good.

Here is what I had in mind.

Taken from the site:
Plasti-Dip Spray
by Performix
11 oz. aerosol can.
Available in Red, Yellow, Black, Blue, White or Clear.
The spray version of Plasti-Dip in a can. One of the best products I have found for use all around the house, Plasti-Dip is a flexible, synthetic rubber coating which exhibits excellent moisture, acid, alkaline, and abrasion resistance. Permanant and water tight as long as you want it to be but removes completely and without mess from most non-porous surfaces.
Ideal for weatherproofing paper maps or fabric (use clear Plasti-Dip), slip proofing foot rests, adding or improving grip and color coding tool handles. Use to weatherproof/sealing clay pots, coat and seal arts and crafts, protect lawn care equipment, repair/waterproof electrical connections, seal frayed string or rope ends. Paint on the bottom of chair and table legs to prevent damage and slipping.
Spray onto almost anything! Add more layers for greater protection or grip. Not only is this stuff good, IT'S FUN!!
Not bad for $6.25 a can. Comes in a LOT of cool colors too.
Radio Shack and Home Depot both sell it.
I think I'll pick up a can tomorrow and do a test.
If this works out, I'll do like the S203 and do everything in black rubberized.
THAT would be the sweetest biggest fattest Oprah t1ts, JDM goodness here in the USA.

Oh no?
And you have experience with it?
From everything I've found on the net, seems to disagree with your review.
I'll do it on a test swatch...nice and thick, let it dry, and run it through some tests and report my findings.

looks like glorified truck bed liner, but hey, i've had that on my custom door panels for 2 years now and its a very high traffic area and has held up well.

Good one.
I like the stock seats actually. I'll do everything within reason to make the car look more like the S203.
I'm not going to spend $4k on seats, $300 for badging etc.
I just don't like all the silver in the car as it stands. Too much. I love the S203 interior.

Does anyone know if the entire interior is the same rubber compound?
Meaning, the dash, armrest etc?

try to fint the seats 1st before working on your dash.in that way everytime you seat on your car you actually feel the S203.
just my $.02

I'd be interested in your results. I'd like to go 2004 Spec C Limited style on mine. It's pretty much black like that, but in the 04 interior.

Will,
You must have been reading my mind! I bought the Plasti Dip black spray stuff also for the same exact reason you did!!!
I think it will work out fine, although, I decided not to go the s203 route afterall and do something different.
Let me know how it turns out because I'm still curious if the Plasti Dip spray would have looked they way I'd envisioned it :)

Yeah, I have 2 cans of that stuff in my garage, plus one more can of another brand. I've tried it on different surfaces, with not the greatest of results. Once a spot starts peeling, its all downhill from there. I guess if you can keep it from initially peeling, you might be OK. I had all my charge piping done with the plastidip coating, and boy was that a mistake.

i used a flat black spray paint in my 05 sti for the s203 look and then a few days later when all dried and settled i took and lightly whiped some son of a gun tire shine on the pieces and it gave it a very sublte semi-gloss look that all the s203 interior pics are.

Problem is, the S203 is rubberized. Not flat paint.

I like the s203 interior too and thought about making the titanium colored pieces black. Most of the pieces should be pretty easy to paint, but what about the ac knobs? Those would be impossible to paint, and would look pretty wierd IMO if left titanium colored. Any way those could be ordered?

how did you prep the surface. i'm sure there is a heat tolerance for this stuff and the amount of heat under hood probably exceeds it.

sounds like you get pissy with anyone that doesnt want to take a big S203 in the.....
just paint the think black, the 1st time your wife or girlfirend catches her ring or nail on your console you'll want to beat her within an inch of her life and make cleaning the dishes seem like a better idea than riding in your car
btw- it may look nice but it will look nothing like an S203.. good luck!

MD is a dead market here in the States. But that just makes the few that have it even more unique.

jdm head units have lower FM frequencies than US head units. plan on not listening to any US radio if you get a JDM head unit unless you have a FM band expander dealy.

not that hard to find. It's usually a preferance thing, i personally hate the styling of most US marketed radios.

i say go for it.
it's easy to redo if you dislike it, and it's hard to mess up if you have any kind of craft experience(i was accepted to industrial design at RIT though, so maybe i have *some* talent... not much though because i failed out of RIT in my first year hahaha)
