Sabelt vs Sparco harness part 1

Sabelt vs Sparco harness
I know they used to be one company, but now they are separete with their own products as far as I understood

how does the sparco 3" harness compares to that of sabelt? I have heard that sabelt uses a slightly softer materials for the belts, and it's not as hard on you
true? or identical pieces with different name tags?
firebert 02-14-2007 02:43 AM

sparco harness are now made by schroth. I used to own a pair of schroth 4point 2" harnesses before I got my Willans 3" 6 points and the schroths were more comfortable with a softer webbing. Unfortunitely I never had any experiences with sabelt.
blue blurr 02-14-2007 09:52 AM

Screw em both and get a G-Force harness, works awesome at a very good price.
Scooby South 02-14-2007 10:33 AM

^^^^ What he said....
MPME 02-14-2007 12:17 PM

Best you can buy is Schroth.
firebert 02-14-2007 02:18 PM

yes, the ASM is nifty, especially for street cars.
mav1c 02-14-2007 05:28 PM

I have G-Force 6-Pt harnesses and have been very happy. I looked into getting Sparco/Shroth, but after actually seeing them side-by-side, I couldn't justify the extra cost.
scobaru 02-15-2007 03:00 AM

sabelt are dot approved I believe vs the others that are just FIA approved....thats what I've heard atleast I don't know if it should be taken as fact or not
boosted_rs 02-15-2007 08:27 AM

My Sparco harness are made by Sabelt. I didn't know they split.
freq 02-15-2007 10:34 AM

If you're planning to use your harnesses in competition, you might consider spending a little more and getting some that you can have rewebbed stateside after they expire.

That's a good point to note. My Sabelt (which I love) just expired and for what it would cost to ship it and have it rewebbed, I'm better off buying a new one. This is for my BMW track toy. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the subie. Not putting a rollbar or cage in it. Was thinking harness bar.

People, if you're getting this for looks, don't. I used my cam-lock in my daily driver and after a while it's just a pain. But, if you want to be held in place during autocrossing, track days, or spritied driving, it is sooooo nice! I may have to go home, sit in my Sparco Rev, and click in. MMM!

Both Sabalt and Sparco branded harnesses are of excellent build quality and comfort. The biggest problem with the Sparco harnesses is that they are sold a-la-carte - meaning that the shoulder, waist and sub belts are sold separately. This often makes the Sparco harness systems more expensive than others.

The biggest misconception people have with harnesses is their respective safety ratings. Many less expensive harnesses are rated SFI only. In competition, SFI rated harnesses are only good for 2 years past the date on the harness. FIA rated harnesses are good for 5 years. It is almost always a better value to get the more expensive FIA rated harness, depending on your intentions as a driver.

FIA is what you want unless you don't mind buying belts often. As for the guy that posted about re-webbing I honestly don't think that any belt manufactureres do that anymore, due to liabilities. But hey I could be wrong, I only sell them.

On a side note all FIA belts come with an expiration date on each piece, so if it doesn't have a date on it don't buy it.
MarcsRX 02-15-2007 04:45 PM

I have the Sabelt 5pt. I love it.

Here's a question I always had...G-Force makes a 7 point harness too..where the heck does the 7th point attach to?
Hyper 02-16-2007 12:33 AM

up your aaaa.......a good question:D
reallyslow 02-16-2007 01:36 AM

I have the Prodrive edition Sabelts, and I love them. I have also used the Sparcos... Not much differance in the actual harness but I prefer the Sabelt dial, how ever I think the Sparco's are easier to adjust. Heres a picture of my setup.

Just to throw out another option, I like my 3" FIA approved Willans 6 pt harness.
firebert 02-16-2007 04:39 PM

^^ I have the same set, pricey but nice. mines is going to be expired by the end of the year though:(

Those prodive belts look sweet with the SPG.
minifreak 02-16-2007 05:17 PM

Any opinions on Corbeau's 3 point retractable snap in harness? The only time I would use it is at autoX.

Willans are gangster!
firebert 02-17-2007 03:53 PM

Corbeau arnt FIA, SFI or DOT so the only time you can really use them would be autoX. But why retractable when you will only use them for competition purposes? I would throw out Schroth brand once again because they make a retractable harness that is DOT.
Jtree 02-18-2007 03:01 AM

are not cam locks illegal? i thought for DOT approval it needs the standard pushbutton release? also, as in the pic above, what state lets you pass inspection with stock seat belts removed?

J
firebert 02-18-2007 03:44 AM

Schroth has "street legal" harnesses and "competition" harnesses. Their street harness is push button and has NHTSA approval. The state i live in (california) don't do safety inspections at all. Only emissions.
blue blurr 02-18-2007 01:37 PM

Really, there is no reason to spend so much on a harness unless you want the name and maybe color option of something other then G-Force. G-forces belts work just as good as any, but a fraction of the cost. Only reason I switched to a Schroth is because I got a HANS. You can get a G-Force SFI/FIA rated 6-point belt for 120 bucks...

Reallyslow, that set up looks HOT, but where is your sub belt? The sub belt is just as important as any other belt.

Yes yes I know... I have money going into other things at the moment, but also I have not been tracking my car because its winter so I will maybe pick some up for the up coming race season.
blue blurr 02-18-2007 08:58 PM

Race season, or track day season? Big difference :)
trhoppe 02-18-2007 09:04 PM

The car I'm driving this year has the Scroth Profi-2 HANS belts. These are very nice and much more comfortable then the safequip and geforce belts I've used before. I'm sure its the 2" lap belt as well as the 2" HANS section, but I'm impressed with them.
Any opinions on Corbeau's 3 point retractable snap in harness? The only time I would use it is at autoX.
Forget the retractable bit.. waste of money for autoX only. The Rallye 3 & 4 setups are great for autocross. My Rallye 3 stays stashed under the driver's seat when not in use.. the only thing telling is the bright blue strap laying across my back seat.
