Who thinks Speed Channel S**Ks part 1

Who thinks Speed Channel S**Ks
As the titles say's! After the voting is over I'm going to e-mail the results to them.
I'm absolutely sick of turning to the channel and seeing nothing but NASCAR large majority of the time.
If it wasn't for Formula One and the occasional Speed World Challange I would never watch the channel again.

Wow, another bitching thread about Speed

Do you have a VCR or PVR? Learn how to use it, and you'll see there'd plenty of good content.

Speed Channel is a business, and NASCAR is big money.
Snowphun 05-20-2005 09:25 AM

Sorry, duplicate.

Since I use a DVR Speed is my favorite channel by far. For any given week I have about 10 hours in non F1 weekend and about 16 during F1 worth of stuff to watch.

I love the channel but their selection of broadcast times does suck at times. The CART race from Mexico, which could be shown live this Sunday afternoon is being shown at 10pm CST Sunday night so it won't be over until 12:30am.

In closing, yes, too much NASCAR but it pays the bills and lets me watch F1, WRC, CART, Speed Touring, Speed GT, Paris Dakar, British Touring Cars, DTM, British Rally Cross, Grand Am, Moto GP, 24 Huers de LeMans....................

kp
gargleblaster 05-20-2005 09:32 AM

Buy a Tivo. Sorry, but so long as they show WRC and stuff like Legends of Motorsport, Victory by Design, etc., they're cool. NASCAR just pays the bills, which is fine by me.

Quit yer bitchin.
05WRXwagon 05-20-2005 09:35 AM

As long as they show Formula 1 and other stuff that no one else will, it is hard to complain.
Bonzo 05-20-2005 10:42 AM

dumbest thread evAr.

SpeedTV rocks.

Yes. Remembers the days when you could only see three F1 races a year and the Indy 500 (all tape delayed) on Wild World of Sports.
:(

Thank you SpeedTV!
PaulC 05-20-2005 11:18 AM

Voted NO. Tivo + weekends = :disco:
Don Arm 05-20-2005 11:20 AM

Ha :disco:
Btw snowbung, I do know how to use my DVR. And what dictionary did you find the word "there'd"
And you all must think that having F1 practice preempted for a NASCAR repeat race is great also, right?
Giving them feedback may help get some of the programming improved instead of letting them continue in their current direction.
speedyHAM 05-20-2005 11:23 AM

They REPLAYED a Nascar race yesterday evening over the start of the timeslot of the LIVE coverage of F1 practice.

IMO- That sucks.
GuessWho 05-20-2005 11:26 AM

Anyone know when Speed will start broadcasting in HD?

This sort of thing has been covered many times here before and they have been given quite a lot of feedback. Some members have even received specific emails back about exactly this sort of topic. As for "There'd" it is a contraction of "there would" and really not that uncommon.

Your thread is entirely inflammatory and really quite worthless. Please do not email Speed the results of your poll as your glaring immaturity would unfortunately reflect quite badly upon NASIOC as a whole. :)

rt4me 05-20-2005 11:48 AM

I'm in the Tivo + Speed = crowd.

It's not perfect but I understand that Redneck racing is what pays the bills. I especially love Speed after seeing what we would be getting for coverage on stations like ABC if Speed wasn't around.

Where else are you going to see F1, WRC, Speed World Challenge, Grand-Am, ALMS, Australian V8 Supercar, German Touring, European Touring, British Touring, Victory by Design, F1 Decade...
Don Arm 05-20-2005 11:50 AM

You DrBiggly are entitled to your opinons.
As far as maturity is concerned you seem to be the one who lacks it. Immature
Explain how this is thread is imflammatory? Because someone would like to express their opinion.
WRXMaster 05-20-2005 11:52 AM

I hate speed channel and wish it would go away. Speedvision was making profits ect back in the old days "it doesnt need nascar to keep it afloat" The only reason it blasts Nascar is because its owned by Fox "who happen to own the TV rights" Speed Channel is paying a large sum of dough to hold the rights to show wrc on their channel "which keeps it from coming to a better channel!" There is a article that I lost about David Richards complaining about signing with speed because of their lack of promoting the series. I would hope that a channel like OLN will buy out the rights like they did with Dakar! SPEED DOES NOT MAKE THE WRC SHOWS SO STOP THANKING THEM FOR MAKING A GOOD SHOW!
BryanH 05-20-2005 11:56 AM

speedtv blows.

Do we really need to see NASCAR drivers playing poker?
Don Arm 05-20-2005 12:05 PM

Btw Dr, do you work for Speed?

Nice play on my screen name there, that's clever.

Sorry about my typo, it was sent from a handheld. As most people would be able to ascertain, I meant to type theres. See, the d and s keys are neighbors. Hope my explanation was clear enough for you.

Good luck with your poll, you seem to be an angry man.
left footed whooten 05-20-2005 01:12 PM

If youre so tired of Speedchannel then get off your couch and go drive........
NASCAR sucks in my opinion, but it does pay the bills. Without that, there would be absolutely no programming of the DTM or WRC variety. Its a necessary evil, face it. Find a new hobby, TV itself is lame. Take your dish money and put it into your car and go to an event.
GarySheehan 05-20-2005 01:14 PM

Hmmm...if it wasn't for Formula 1, Formula 1 Practice, Formula 1 Qualifying, F1 Decade, World Challenge GT, World Challenge Touring, Champ Car Qualifying, Champ Car World Series, Grand Am Cup, Grand Am Rolex Sports Car, German Touring Car, British Touring Car, Australian V8 Super Touring Car, Formula Mazda, Superfund Euro 3000, Toyota Atlantic, Trans Am, ALMS, Le Mans Endurance Series, SCCA Runoffs, World Rally, almost all of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, almost all of the 24 Hours of Daytona, Paris-Dakar and Motorsports Mundial, I would never watch Speedvision.

You say they have NASCAR on there, too? You're kidding. Hmph. Never noticed. At least that stuff never shows up on my TIVO. How do they fit NASCAR in with all that other great programming on there?

Nice list.....TiVo makes television palatable...he's gonna hate hearing this...
nhluhr 05-20-2005 06:30 PM

ok so Speed Channel sucks despite the fact that it's my ONLY regular source for the following:

-comprehensive SCCA coverage
-comprehensive WRC coverage
-comprehensive Formula1 coverage
-assorted world motorsports coverage (motorsport mundial anybody?)
-Fifth Gear
-Legends of Motorsport

So what if they have nascar on most of the day? They still have all this other stuff. ABC has soap operas on during the day, does that mean I won't watch Lost and Alias?
cooleyjb 05-20-2005 07:05 PM

Been there done that heard it all before. I really hate when a business tries to make money like showing Nascar a lot so we can see the good stuff occasionally instead of not at all.

I get to see stuff I've never seen on anything other than Speed or videotapes. I'm not complaining.

you are digging a hole bigger and bigger with every post. you should stop posting now.
Anyone know when Speed will start broadcasting in HD?
that would be great!

i agree, nascar blows but like it or not it is considered a motorsport and is watched by far more americans than other motorsports.

nascar is becoming pretty big on the channel and i wouldn't be entirely surprised to see an all nascar all day channel start in the not too distant future but for now i can tolerate it. DVR really helps with that.

my $.02
bemani 05-20-2005 07:24 PM

Are Tivos that useful (don't have one)? Can you program it to just record !nascar contents?
PaulC 05-20-2005 07:31 PM

Yeah pretty much. Everything racing related is listed as "Auto Racing" and then specifics are in the program details. So setting it up to record just that catches everything except for Formula One and NASCAR which both have their own title.

I've got "season passes" for Monster Jam, Auto Racing and Formula One racing. Usually that nets me about 6 hours of non-NASCAR racing a week, plenty for me.
roybfr 05-20-2005 07:42 PM

Tivos or otehr PVR's rock. After having one for a year I am tempted to record and watch everything later so I can FF through comercials
artkevin 05-20-2005 08:09 PM

I keep hearing that NASCAR sucks. I would like to go on record as saying that its not NASCAR that sucks but ovals. I can't watch NASCAR or IRL just becuase ovals do nothing for me. When those sedans go to Sears Point I make sure to watch. I just love road racing no matter what type of car it is. I will watch the Indy 500 but I'll also watch the Daytona next year. I just don't understand the hatered of NASCAR, inless you say you are just overloaded with coverage.
If F1 was covered as heavily as NASCAR I would crap my pants and then watch and record and rewatch every second of it, so I can't blame their fans for getting what they want.

NASCAR doesn't suck, it's just getting too much coverage (compared to everything else). :( They just don't seem to give a crap about anything non-NASCAR. They'll show a bunch of guys TALKING during "primetime" about what happened during the NASCAR race on Sunday lap-by-lap, or what might happen next weekend - but they push WRC coverage to 11pm Sunday night??? GMAFingB... How about swapping Despain with WRC (including amount of time given)?

And how about some damn lawnmower racing or something, instead of stupid, stupid, stupid things like "Unique Whips" - does that show really relate to "speed" in any REAL way? :furious: (yes, they're working on cars, but if you don't drive the cars fast... )

Also, ovals suck, except for dirt ovals. Low traction + extreme hp = fun to watch :)

Unfortunately for you, more people will tune in to the talk show discussing Sunday's NASCAR race and Dave Despain over WRC. All of the bitching in the world isn't going to change the viewing preference of the American public.

I think Speed is doing a great job and I'll keep watching as long as they keep broadcasting the programming that I want to see. I don't care what time they play it at. Long live TIVO!

yeah, sure they show all that. but they stuff all the interesting racing on off hours. half the time if a crappy nascar race runs over, you miss out on the racing you want to see..

Even though I have a DVR recorder, I think their current programming schedule sucks.
GarySheehan 05-20-2005 10:33 PM
oh but you forgot the nascrap celibrity poker
How is it that you are even aware of that programming?! NASCAR is completely invisible to me on SpeedTV with TIVO. I don't even see the commercials with the 30 skip hack!

The stuff YOU want to see is not the stuff that the majority of SpeedTV viewers want to see. Does that make sense to you or not? It's a business. Businesses make money.

I'm happy as long as they don't replace all the cool series I mentioned with paid advertising!

cooleyjb 05-20-2005 11:56 PM

I love how we live in a capitalist society and people are always trying to find jobs that pay more money but they cannot comprehend that any business other than their own also needs to make money.

There is a very good reason NASCAR is on all the time. Advertisers pay to advertise more when it is on because the audience is largest at that time.

Don't you think that a company with the capital investment that Speed Channel has would put stuff on that doesn't sell.

Sure we are very noisy here in NASIOC but if you have never been to a NASCAR race you won't understand why we don't have a chance of seeing the Dakar Rally or a Touring Car Series on during primetime. 100,000+ people treating a race like it is life and death is truly a spectacle to behold.
