San REEEEEEEMO!!!

San Remo rally this weekend!!!
In my opinion, the outcome of this race will definative of the 2003 WRC driver's championship.
If Loeb takes the win, it's all over.
Let's make some bets:
Panizzi
Loeb
Burns
Solberg
Sainz
Gronholm
Martin
Someone Else.
Position finishes IMO:
(1) Loeb
(2) Martin
(3) Solberg

Panizzi
Loeb
Martin
Burns could be in there though! He will finish! Of course Solberg is the sentimental favorite.
This series is going to come down to the wire. My early prediction is that Burns will be champ by winning the Rally GB and no other event.

I think Panizzi has this one locked still. however, if he dnfs, i think loeb could take it. otherwise heres my top 3
1 Panizzi
2 Loeb
3 Solberg (hes fast, and he just won)

1) Panizzi
2) Loeb
3) Burns
I think Burns will definitely be in the top 3, and expand his points lead.

panizzi and loeb are very strong choices for 1 & 2. but, i'm not to sure with panizzi in the privateer citeron . . . i think that he will be definitely in the top 10, for sure.

1) Loeb
2) Panizzi
3) Burns
EDIT of my EDIT: Panizzi is still the third driver for Peugeot in San Remo, as far as I can tell...

If the Focus stays reliable, which it should on asphalt, Marko will be able to assert a top finish. The new Focus has proven to be a very fast car, but those development gremlins keep holding the team back.
Solberg is my favorite, but I think the Subaru is going to let him down on the faster stages.

When is this coming on Speed Channel? My DVR isn't all that smart so I can't set it to automatically record "Auto Racing" without a lot of issue. It can't read the info to figure out what type of "auto racing" it is. I have to go set rally manually.
| jaybird | 10-01-2003 01:02 PM |
Hmmm. Saw something on Rally XS last night. SWRT is going to finally try the new active suspension system they have been working on for like 5 years now. Solberg will be able to dial in spring and damping rates on the fly. We could see a quicker scooby on the tarmac.
FYI Speed has been doing coverage on tuesday or thurs @ 6pm before the the event, a one hour show the sunday @ 9am the weekend of, and a two hour show the sunday after @ 12am. Check your local listing. :D

If you have a TiVo record with a keyword. I think I use "WRC" or "FIA" something. I use "F1" or "Formula 1" as well.
| DrBiggly | 10-01-2003 01:17 PM |
It's a DVR, not a Tivo. If it were a Tivo I would already have it looking for keywords. ;)
Unfortunately for me, all of the NASCAR events on the Speed Channel carry the "Auto Racing" label and the box only reads the label, not the description.
Plus side is that I can record 2 things at once. I even have so many things set to record that I can have 3 events at once and it figures it out based on priority and then asks me what to do if I have too much set and try to manually add something. Good box, only downside is not searching descriptions.
Only costs $10/month and didn't have to pay for the hardware like Tivo. :)

Petter was only second to Marko in the shakedown today. Petter said the new Pirelli's work well with the new suspension and perdicts the best tarmac finish all year. Tommi still has the old suspension and said the new Pirellis don't match the older suspension very good so he is going to stick with the older tires. Looks good for Petter though.
| HomerJay | 10-02-2003 10:48 PM |
This is a very important race for Subaru becuase of the afore mentioned new active suspension. If it turns out to be as good as it has been touted by SWRT it should bode well for the next 3 rallies since they are all tarmac. Looks good so far since Petter set good times despite having to learn to drive w/ the new suspension system.

well so far swrt is having a bad showing and with petter trying to push the car 1.6k to service it looks to be getting worse!

Petter's out

They ran out of time pushing the car to servcie. :( Some problem with the fuel system
| Idjiit | 10-03-2003 12:42 PM |
Petter's out. They were too late into time control.
Can't wait for the pics of Petter and Phil pushin' the car though... I smell an "Own3d" pic coming up...

They ran out of fuel, and we were laughing at Loeb. Life is so unfair...
| Dussander | 10-03-2003 05:52 PM |
First JPM and now Petter...ack, I can't win!
:furious:
Well, at least they are both still the "coolest" drivers. :D

The fords seems to be doing better than ususal on tarmac.
Martin is still pushing hard to catch Loeb even if he's almost a minute out after stage 9. But should make for an interesting race even if Petter is out!

If you look at 2003 Focus' performance you would not be surprized. Markko did just as well in Germany, before he was forced to retire...After this rally and the next couple on tarmac we might see a few changes in the standings. I just hope that Petter will be able to join the new breed of leaders...

Yeah, after the first few stages of leg 3 this morning, Loeb is in full control even if Martin is hanging in there.

Petter ran out of fuel?
| Choose | 10-05-2003 09:03 AM |
Yes...there better be a whole in the gas tank or someone will be walking the plank!!!!!
| cvalle-sd | 10-05-2003 12:21 PM |
Yeh - problem with the fuel system...problem is, if there's no gas inside it, you have a half-million dollar soapbox racer. Silly engineers. I know they're trying to run light, but C'mon, this is like the mars probe that smashed into the planet instead of orbiting. Maybe they should have an extra litre stashed somewhere JIC.
| Smelli Bugatti | 10-05-2003 03:33 PM |
I read ..someplace..that the fuel guage was not reading properly. The soobs weren't doing very well WITH gas.

That was understandable. Those things fly through space at several times the speed of sound (thousands of miles per hour), trying to approach moving target millions of miles from earth. Then use reverse thrusters and parachutes to slow down just enough to make a perfect landing.
Uh, but you're right, running out of gas in a a rally is true "doh", material.

PS. Why did Peugeot wear the Marlboro colors this weekend and Subaru didnt show the 555?
| bemani | 10-05-2003 11:05 PM |
Damn it! Stupid Marcus Gronholm. He had to smash his car didn't he, and let Richard Burns get 2 points :( Now Petter is 9 points behind :(
| wrrrx | 10-05-2003 11:31 PM |
Still... I was happy to see Gilles return to his old form. Nice job!
and Marcus- ?! Whooah, miss a breaking point or what?
Burnsie-.... well, what can you say?
Then there's Tommi... <siiiiighh...> Really, old chap, do you have to actually run the last 3 rallies?
I mean, I love the guy, but he shoulda retired after that horrific crash two friggin years ago!
Here's keeping my fingers crossed that FIA doesn't forever screw up WRC as we know and love it!

Did you guys hear what Nicky said to Carlos when he handed him the bottle of champagne?
Something like:

Did anyone else think something strange was going on with the rally?
I mean Burns and Panizzi were driving like they were checking out the fall colors until Gronholm crashed out and then it seems like they found the throttle all of a sudden...
It seemed like Pug wanted to get Gronholm back in it for the title and since their other two drivers are leaving they were asking them to hang back so he could get back in it for the over all.
Either way cool event. Ecspecially when Panazzi turned it up!
