SCCA goof on website..STi classing

So the STi is reclassed to BSP, why can't SCCA keep their documents in order:
According to this the STi is still in ESP which is wrong
http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/streetpreparedcategoryclassificationsbymake.pdf
from this page

How sweet would the ESP pax be with the new boost regulation!
Just kidding, me and my pipe dreams....

You're allowed to run BSP with the ESP PAX if you won at least one NT event in the 2005 season.

^Well then I guess either you don't have any first place NT finishes, or your letter got lost in the mail. In the latter case, you should probably email Doug Gill for your PAX adjustment badge. They go on the bottoms of the front doors, under the Solo II and sponsor stickers.
| nKoan | 01-16-2006 03:09 PM |
Thats funny. Must be an old list, cause it doesn't have the Legacy GT Turbo or the new 2.5L WRX (which is supposed to still be in ESP, but on a different line IIRC).
You're allowed to run BSP with the ESP PAX if you won at least one NT event in the 2005 season.
What?! I knew I should have driven up to Packwood!
But I think this rule's been changed. In the new FastTrack (April 1) it says this rule's been superceeded by the BYSEBR rule (Bribe Your SEB Rep), so if you drive a turbo or AWD car in any class that had a Mustang or Camaro in it last year, you can now use their PAX this year, assuming you added the $20 in the right spot on your 2006 membership form.

You're right, I have a 2nd and 3rd.
What's the point of using someone elses pax though? Kind of retarded if you ask me. Nothing is based on pax, unless you're talking about Pro's.

We're joking, finkel.
Also, it's best to keep that "nothing is based on PAX" talk away from Mr. Mundi. ;)

It's not necesarily a goof, but lack of updating of the file after the changes were made for '06.
Rule Book Supercedes that list that is maintained by one person in HQ. I've e-mailed Doug Gill to see when an update to the list could be expected.

I hate to bring this back from the dead (yes,I search). But a question has come up. I know the Sti moved to BSp with no boost restrictions correct? The WRX stays in ESP with no boost restrictions? Please help with proof either way. Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

Any 2.5 liter goes to BSP....any 2.0 ltr...goes to ESP...2006 SCCA Rulebook indicates this....ANY SP car has NO restrictions on Boost now...so boost it up...the only caveat to that is that it has to have the Stock Turbo...ie...a VF39 on STi....and TD04 on a WRX...Engine management is open...

It's all in the rule book.
When they say 'no boost' it doesn't mean you can run upgraded turbos... but you can run as much boost as you want through Electronic or Mechanical means.

understand....According to the PEB...since its a 2.5 it goes to BSP...just like a Legacy GT....or a Forester...with the same 2.5...that was the ruling when I went to the Divisional in ATL...last week..
I really think it needs to be clarified in a Fastrack...cause right now its debateable about the WRX...its all interpretation ....

Huh? Rule book states "WRX".
That's where they go.....
WHat confusion is there?
BSP says WRX STi.. not Subaru 2.5L (All)
Subarus listing in the rule book doesn't list Displacement as a basis for the cars classing.
Heck, the ESP listing for Forester is "Forester 2.5XT"... no confusion about where the 2.5L Forester belongs. You guys down there smoking crack?

Rule book as WRX STi in BSP, and WRX and Forrester in ESP. Seems very clear to me. Sounds like someone is trying to get the 2.5T Subarus out of ESP.

Really.. what's the confusion and what does it center around that there might be 'confusion'? IMHO it's as clear as reading that the MX5 Miata is in CSP.
Doesn't need to list year. Doesn't need to say (all) and we all know that their engine displacement has changed 3 times since it was added, and they're all in the same line. (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 are all on the same line).
You can take the new 2.0 and throw it in a 90 if it fits and it'd be legal.
Again... what kind of crack are they on? Nothing needs to be clarified... unless they're looking for the (All) designation.. and then if that's the case, every single car that has had different engines for the same model need to have that added. Let's clutter the rule book up even more!!

Who at the divisional "decided" that 2.5L Subies are in BSP? It's pretty clear in the rulebook; Joel doesn't need to do squat about "clarification". If someone at the divisional "decided" to misclass something, then that person needs to be set straight.
isn't the legacy ESP aswell?
Actually, no. I mistakenly thought it was in ESP as well, but its in FSP (improperly classed), but unless you have regional or divisional sups, the 05+ Legacy GT is in FSP.
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32056
My post:
I was looking in the 2006 rule book, and it seems the Legacy 2.5 GT 05+ doesn't have its own line anymore this year under Street Prepared as it does under Stock.
I remember a FasTrack last year ammending the 05 rules putting the Legacy 2.5 GT 05+ on its own line and putting it in DS and ESP. But in the rule books this year, Legacy & Legacy GT seem to be classed in FSP. Only the Forester 2.5XT and the Impreza WRX are classed in ESP (which also seems wierd, because I tought the WRX 06+ was getting its own line as well).
This seems like an error because there is no mention in any of the previous FasTracks (at least that I can find) that talk about recombining the Legacy lines into FSP, or moving of the Legacy 2.5 GT 05+ at all under Street Prepared.
I just ran one weekend (2 events) and the Timing and Scoring cheif is asking me if I made a mistake and if he should classify/finalize the results with me in FSP instead of ESP.
Personally, I'd rather be in ESP to compete with all my WRX driving friends.
One reply:
Keefe has told me a couple of times the BL/BP Legacy GT belongs in ESP when classed in an street prepared class, however, I wanted official confirmation because it's bothered me that the SCCA lists our cars as specifically belonging to FSP.
I wrote to the SCCAs solo division and asked for confirmation. I received word back from Doug Gill, the SCCA Solo Technical Director today. He stated although it makes logical sense our cars would be classed with the WRX based upon the similarities between the two, there is no specific line anywhere in the FasTracks specifically stating our cars or any other Subraus NOC should be anywhere but FSP in a street prepared class, as was stated by nKoan earlier.
Now, that said, I must say I believed I belonged in ESP and ran there this past weekend. My times were mid-pack. However, were I to have run in FSP, I would have been faster by 2 or so seconds.
I guess, like Keefe said, we're just going to have to run in FSP, smoke the competition and rock at Nationals. THEN they'll decide to put us where we belong.

E-mail I sent to Doug Gill (Solo Tech guy)
The Timing and Scoring cheif for my region came up to me the other day and told me he thinks I competed in the wrong class this last weekend.
The general consensus on Subaru boards on the internet is that the 05+ Legacy 2.5GT should be class in ESP, and that is what I competed under last weekend. Timing and Scoring came up to me and said that I should be in FSP as per the rule book, and asked me to locate the FasTrack that puts me into ESP instead of FSP. I've searched through all I can find online which dates back to before the new model was available, and there is no mention of moving the vehicle into a different Street Prepared class then its non-turbo bretheren of the same name in previous model years. There is a specific mention of moving the stock classing and putting 05+ Legacy 2.5GT on its own line in the March '05 FasTrack, but that seems to be it. A memeber of LegacyGT.com told me that he contacted Doug Gill, and that Doug said essentially the same thing I am now. I just wanted to get some confirmation.
Since it has only been two events (one weekend for us), the Timing and Scoring cheif is going to class me in ESP (where I finished middle of the pack) but he ran some theoretical scores, and I would have won FSP by a significant margin, and moved up 10 spots in our PAX championship. He's hesitant to move me after publishing the results, but we would both like some clarification before the next weekend. As far as I can tell, the rules tell me to go into FSP, but I believe the vehicle is better off in ESP. I'd also much rather run midpack in a competitive class than dominate a slower class, especially since I know I'm not a very competitive driver yet.
In case you don't know, the specs on the car are:
2.5L 16 valve Active Valve Controlled System Turbocharged Boxer engine with 13.5 PSI stock pushing 250hp/250lb-ft.
Weight around 3300lbs
AWD
MacPherson front, Multilink Rear Suspension
12.3" Front and 11.2" Rear vented brake disks with 2 piston front calipers and 1 piston rear calipers
Thanks a bunch for your help,
Hi, Nicholas,
Youve got a pretty good handle on the situation. The FSP listing for the Legacy 2.5 GT was actually before the Turbo version. So its very possible that the new Legacy 2.5 GT really shouldnt be in FSP. But the Street Prepared listing doesnt differentiate between the older and newer models and there is not a specific listing for the newer model. So technically, all Legacy 2.5 GT models are together in FSP.
Ive asked the Street Prepared Advisory Committee to look at the new Legacy. While ESP looks to be a good fit, it has about 20 more horsepower than the WRX. So I really cant say for sure if the new Legacy will be in ESP.
Per Section 1.1 of the Solo Rules (page 12), the Region can class cars as they see fit. Id suggest that you discuss with the Region Solo officials to leave your car in ESP for 2006 in Regional Solo events. Even if FasTrack comes out with a different classing, the Region can keep you in ESP and change it next year.
If youd like to send an official request for clarification, just send it to me by e-mail and Ill log it in and send it to the Solo Events Board. But I dont know when itll show up in FasTrack.
Hope this helps.

Tech people have nothing to do with car classing. They only do a safety inspection. Classing the car is the responsibility of the competitor. If somebody believes that another competitor is running in the wrong class, they need to file a protest.
So unless there was a protest against a 2.5 liter WRX running in ESP, nothing happened at that event. Except that somebody might have been giving out bad advice. They might have been confused about STX vs. STU, where the class does depend on the displacement, and the 2.5 liter WRX goes to STU.

I didn't pay much attention to it as it didn't effect me....at the time..
But it was pretty clear now...as I overheard them say that All 2.5 ltr Turbo motors were to be in BSP...as My car was presented to tech...in BSP...maybe it was just a comment...who the hell knows..
 Okay. I wanted to make sure it wasn't who I thought it might be, otherwise, I'd have to set him straight. ;)
That is a very interesting note about the new Legacy GT in FSP.... Quick! Someone build one for FSP and dominate!!!

Yes, a new legover GT will, IMHO, do very well in FSP thi syear, if someone decides to make one.

Actually, as I've noted before, the Legacies are all on the same line in FSP, too. I'd think a 1990 Legacy with the motor from an 05+ LGT or the EZ30R from an Outback would be a pretty quick FSP car. ;) (Well for one season, anyway. )
