sick racing stripe?

i've never really been a fan of big flashy racing stripes on mustangs and what not. but, i have loved the euro style ones that are one one side of the car. heres a paint i made of something i was thinking about. my cars aspen white so it would kinda look like that from an arial view.

Nope. Saw one just like that on a new GTI. It even had teh ghey on that car. It'd be much worse on an Impreza, IMO.

Yes sick...as in makes me want to vomit. But you pay for the car, so you get to make the decisions.

IMNSHO, racing stripes only work on two genres of cars:
1.) Old british roadsters (AC Cobra, anyone?)
2.) American muscle (One word: Viper. And no, the new GTO doesn't count)
But hey, whatever floats your boat.

IDK, I think it could look good if you go for the old school rally look. Add a lightbar, some mud flaps, and a round number plate in the middle of the stripe (coming down the bonnet) and I think you're on to something.

Well, our Scoobie's sure have character -- and I do like the photoshop! Not bad at all. A little too "look at me!" for me, but I wouldn't knock you for sporting it.

it might even be cool to incorporate the STi logo into the stripe going up the hood...maybe like and outline of it hidden inside the pink stripe itself.

photoshop it with symmetrical stripes and see what it looks like..i kinda like it either way.
| ScoobyBlack | 08-25-2006 05:30 AM |
Personally I'm not a fan of those non-symetrical stripes, however, I'll admit that that setup is pretty clean. You might be able to pull it off with the scoopless hood. Would you vinyl these or actually get them painted?

i once saw a used sti for sale from some dealer, online, and it had 2 racing stripes on it. they were like muscle car stripes. being a previous owner of a 69 camaro i have to admit i liked it, everyone has there own tastes.

I like the two, same color, racing stripes down the center, even on the wrx/sti. not a huge fan of the two colored off centered stripes (on anything) but its not bad looking in that PS. Basically, I agree with allroy81. If you like it and don't care about what others are going to say, go for it. Just don't forget: Everyone's a critic.

What would really make it look cute is to have a bow/ ribbon on the bonnet! (no I'm not serious... )
All joking aside, to each their own with "teh" stripers. I think not having a hood scoop helps the look, otherwise it would be too over the top with one. I recommend that same pattern only on the passenger's side with the thinner strip on the outer edge. To finish the look, it would have to go all the way to the back of the car, over a "WRX" spoiler, and end where the edge of the trunk meets the top of the rear bumper cover. I would not suggest having the rear bumper "striped." But that's my opinion. If you wanted to go all out, have one side of your car's wheels painted to match the stripe closest to that side and have the other [side] done in a similar fashion.
Good luck with our decision. If you decide to go through with any part of this, post pics, of course.
< Brian
edit: flamed by a n:eek:  B! If you want the "STi" trunk on your WRX, that's your preference. If this guy wants racing stripes and fuzzy dice, that is totally up to him.

Yeah not a fan of that idea either, although black w/ a red lip would probably look good but only if you did all 4 that way
| that1dude | 08-25-2006 11:27 AM |
That actually looks pretty cool. The RS hood is the only reason it works; a scoop would be too much goin on for me. Have you seen Duplicolor's new temp paint? Car Art You could have the look for real cheap and see if you really wanna paint the stripes on for good.
| buzz367 | 08-25-2006 08:15 PM |
ya i have an RS hood so it would definately be a lot cleaner looking. and it would definately be vinyl. i could never do it permanently. the only thing holding me back is my gold wheels. if i was to do this i think it would have to be with black wheels or charcoal grey. with the gold i think it would be way to many things going on. im not a fan of that look. i do need to research where i would have this vinyl cut and made. i have no idea of any places in socal that would do it. if any of you know it would be appreciated.
thanks for the comments, i knew it would be very hot/cold with the opinions.

I too considered this. I am not sure how many of you have seen the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". But I thought those racing stripes on those beamers were pretty straight. I have a WRB WRX with Black/polished lip wheels and I think a black stripe like that would accent it nicely. Now, question is, left side or right side.

that movie is what inspired me to do this racing stripe. i thought those bmw's looked so sick with those stripes. i also think that it should go passenger side, small line towards the inside

Check your regional forum for vinyl shops, it should be no problem to find one in so cal.
Also, I've learned recently that single racing stripes indicate the postition of the driver, but I'm not positive on that; only reason I put it where I did on the photoshop.

if you're gonna do it, i'd do it on the passenger side too. and maybe not all the way down the front bumper but just stop the stripe at the end of the hood? i dunno.

Id say make the stripe all the way through. And I DO like it on the drivers side. Why not take it from the exhaust up. I think that would look smooth.
| buzz367 | 08-29-2006 01:32 AM |
ok so, i think my final decision is passenger side, going all the way down in the front, then in the back, stopping at the bumper. now to get a vinyl shop and pricing. hmmmm
