STI trim around shifter boot part 1

wrxlvr 11-03-2001 11:55 PM

Can someone make this?

Can anyone make one of these? It appears to just be an aluminum trim piece that goes around the shift boot. Doesn't need to say STI cause I own a WRX not an STI!

ps. right click, properties, copy, paste into address bar + geocities sucks. It really is a nice pic though

TaiChih 11-04-2001 05:36 PM

Let us know how it fits:D I'm interested to see if it actually works. And at $68 per.....
wrxlvr 11-05-2001 10:32 AM

that one looks too tall. I'm looking for one closer to the STI one. Anyone in Metal Shop? This would be a great project for you ;)

No way I'm paying that much!!
The STI one would probably be cheaper.

Actually it isn't...
Chunky_Chicken 11-05-2001 12:46 PM

I'm working on putting one out for people to buy. Its virtually identical to the STI (minus the STI logo), and wouldn't involve cutting the boot hole out. Someone was selling the real STI bezel about a month ago for $103 + shipping. I can make a look alike for much much cheaper. The one I'm working on would attach with DS tape. I'm just waiting on some product info from 3M. I'll keep you posted, I should have some stuff ready in a few weeks. Does anyone else know if there is anyone making a similar product SPECIFICALLY for the WRX?

Jaxx 11-05-2001 12:51 PM

it does look cool though
Zahnster 11-05-2001 05:26 PM

You know thats my car in that picture there.(The Club, SPT sticker in tray, radar cord in tray....) I wonder who took the picture...(Doh, obviously Jaxx did, he was at SEMA :) )

I like the real thing myself! Besides the fact I can't help but look down at it every now and then, I knew it was worth the money with my somewhat money tight friend actually said he thought it was worth it.

Austin 11-05-2001 05:52 PM

That does look good!
WRSport 11-05-2001 10:58 PM

Please make one for the GC8. Did the old GC8 STI's have this shifter trim?
wrxlvr 11-08-2001 11:45 AM

Chunky_Chicken,

Any news?
Chunky_Chicken 11-08-2001 12:47 PM

Still waiting on info from 3M, I'm gonna knock off a handmade one in a week and take some pics. I'll go from there. The production ones will me made by CNC/lasercut. The SS screws will be real, so don't worry it should look exactly the same (minus the STI logo).

Rozos 11-20-2001 11:47 PM

what i liked best was the trim around the spedo (silverish color ) anyone knows how to get one of those? it has to be for a left hand drive car though cose the pin for zeroing the meter wont fit .
TampaWRX 11-20-2001 11:49 PM

WRX Power 11-21-2001 01:27 AM

Why don't you just make it WITH the STI logo?? I'd be interested then...

Ever hear of copywrite infringement??? Making a profit on something using someone else's logo is usually a big time no-no involving fines and sharing close quarters with someone named bubba. Especially when you are making lower priced copies of their products. It's kinda like that "genuine rolex salesman with the trenchcoat in NYC".

 I'm Bubba.

Nope, you gotta pay for that, otherwise you're faking the funk like all those little kids putting "Type R" badges on their stock Civic DX. There's a term for that you know.... ;)
interpath 11-21-2001 03:37 PM

Folia-Tec product?

I asked ppsonline.net (wayne) about a similar product by e-mail-he responded re: "a universal product with a Folia Tec (several models made)"...Anyone have any experience with this product?

I would rather have the product contemplated by chunky_chicken when available...

btw: the above web site has an excellent array of accessories including Momo shifters, etc.
Thanks
:)

Well I'm sure that it would go unnoticed unless you plan to mass market these things but Subaru doesn't even own the copyright to STI in North America and I doubt that Shimano would really care that their logo is on a metal ring around a few peoples shifters... but we can continue to be dramatic about it if you want
wrxlvr 11-21-2001 04:43 PM

more a matter of ethics rather than "think I'll get sued?" methinks.
Zahnster 11-21-2001 05:17 PM

I've got a Prodrive Silver Shift Knob in route to keep my shiny shifter trim company.
