Subaru's "secret" change

Apparently Subaru made a "change" to the suspension and it is apparently hush hush. Does anyone know anything?

I know it made Petter stomp ass on the competition. Too bad the steering went when that rock collided with them :(

They keep saying they "found something" in the car but leave it at that. Dead hooker in the trunk? That'd slow ya down. They seem to imply that the change is helping with the understeer they were experiencing? Curious as well...

Yea. Its pissing me off. Someone I know spoke with someone at Prodrive, and that individual at Prodrive was not at liberty to say...I wanna know!!!
I did hear on the Speed TV broadcast they mentioned the geometry being changed, and that, like dolmen_tor stated, affected the understeering issue.....but thats all I got. :(
If it had to do with understeer, I want to do it to my car!

While I'm just as curious as anyone to find out the details, I'm thinkin' it may be a bit of a stretch to think that whatever they found could be applied to any of or out cars...;)

They finnaly realized to change the RE92's on Petter's car :)
I guess we need someone to head over to Prodrive and beat the answer out of them. Maybe give the details to Skoda (they need all the help they can get).

Perhaps it accidently came about following the recent tragedy with Beef. Maybe they were kind of looking at ways to strengthen the car in side impacts and ended up finding some sort of bracing that made a big difference in rigidity.
OR, perhaps they when they rendered the suspension with CAD, it came up with an optimal strut camber angle...but forgot to factor in the fact that when it matters (in a turn) the strut compresses, thus changing the camber of the wheel and the optimum strut camber angle.

Naw thats a bunch of jibberish. It was the hooker Petter picked up in Hollywood.

for starters suspensions are designed in cad...it's components are...that is why there are suspension analyzers, and they are great
but the dead whore theory is great
I'm thinking they moved a mounting point, in, out or forward, who knows

Yeah, maybe their trunk monkey died on the way to Japan:
Petter: Haven't seen the trunk monkey in a while. Did you pull him out of the trunk before we crated up the car?
Phil: I thought you did!
Canned laughter as both look at camera with bulging eyed "oops" looks.
I can see it now...

There's no way they had anything get any further than the drawing board in just two weeks. You won't see any changes inspiried by that accident on any car until at least the frirst event of 2006.
And WRC engineers don't "forget" simple stuff like compression changing camber...

Yep. If these things get taken into account with a lowly Speed World Challenge Touring team, you can bet that a WRC team with a multimillion dollar budget and several PhD Engineers would figure it out.
I'm guessing that the front geometry change is the find, and the lower suspension pickup points were able to be moved to a much more favorable location with a bit of creative engineering.

I think they reprogrammed the ECU with some Digimon.
I loved the early post about the rock 'colliding with them,' or something like that. As if the rock rolled out onto the road itself. I laughed out loud while reading this thread more than I have for any other.

If you saw the rally, and and how gutted Petter was after it happened, It wouldnt be so funny.
But yea, the wording was kinda funny...like the rock had legs or something.

RallyImprezive, don't get me wrong. I always pull for Petter. Not so much becasue he's a Suby pilot, but more because he has a lot of talent and seems to have a decent personality. Petter did seem awfully broken up about the incident, and understandably so. That wasn't the first time we've seen Petter too upset to conduct an interview. He has true passion for the sport. His broad gammut of emotions, crazy-happy when he wins to absolutely devastated like in Japan, is part of what makes Petter a symbol of great sportsmanship.
The rock incident was heart breaking. But that is in the past, and everyone is ok. Now we can look back, make goofy comments, and laugh... As if the rock had legs. Hee hee!
