swapped side skirts?

has anyone swapped 9-2x side skirts onto their car? they sorta remind me of the Evo side skirts, they're clean yet aggressive

This is interesting...
Hope they fit

Saab wagon sideskirts come 1/4 up the fender line
Thus, the Saab wagon sideskirts would require that you install Saab fenders....
and bumpers... and headllights... and hood...
Saab sideskirts are similar to this (06 wagon 2.5i sideskirts)

that front "step" in the sideskirts
makes them just about impossible to fit on anything else...

my thoughts exactly! you'd probably have to fill a bit in with fiberglass or something, because that step is probably hollow and youll be missing a little square. but as long as the length is close, they could be easily modified to fit.

yah you cut that off and you'll need to fiberglass on the ends or um... something

I don't believe it'll take as much effort as one would think...

I agree...I really like the clean look of the SAAB 9-2x skirts. I recently bought some from a local recycler and plan on mounting these to my 2004 WRX sedan. As Jamie likes to point out, there are differences in the way they mount but should bolt up fine with some slight modification (and without swapping fenders and such). Granted it won't bolt up exactly like SAAB or the MY06 cars...but you will definitely get the clean look.
Most of the holes line up as normal except the part near the front wheel well where it has the clips. I intend to remove these clips to make it sit more flush on the WRX fender and find a way to secure it. Otherwise I will use the exisiting mounting points.

I haven't had time to attach these yet, but in my garage I took two photos of me holding the skirts up to the body to see how they line up. I merged the two photos in Photoshop so my body wouldn't be in the way, but it gives you an idea where it will lay on the lines of the car. The rear silver tab behind the door isn't pictured but I will have that attached too when it all gets installed.
I will post more pics as the project progresses and I get them actually bolted on to the car.

hmm. . . I wonder if you could switch the side skirts around (left and right) and install them so that the front fender tab sits where the black plastic is behind the rear doors, and remove the black plastic ;) that would be very nice. If not, id stick with cutting that front tab off.
| Jonnyfilmboy | 08-08-2006 09:12 PM |
Dude! Pretty cool idea. I like the way it looks. Yeah, maybe you can rotate them L to R and see if they cover up the lame black thing. With a little paint, I think these might look pretty sweet.
Post more pics when you are finished!

All the black plastic comes off. I just didn't take a photo of the tab that replaces it. It will all be PSM to match the skirts.

Just attached them this weekend and they pretty much bolted right up. They just need a little more tweaking on the front where it meets the fender. I plan on heating the plastic and bending it to wrap cleanly along the curve of the fender and held flush at the top seam with double sided tape so I don't have to drill new holes. I think it's coming along nicely...and I'm sure would work way easier on a wagon instead of a sedan.

I like it, have you ever seen those show cars where they blend the skirts into the fenders so there aren't any lines, I bet if you did that with the rear pieces and the front pieces it'd look amazing but yeah after seeing that it worked for you I'd like to try it, now to find out if they make em in red, props to u

I got them in Rancho Cordova, CA near Sacramento at Volvo & SAAB Auto Dismantlers. I drove their and picked them up. They had a silver car and a red one. I paid $150 for the set and all the clips.

The guy there told me he was glad I picked them up since stuff like that has been known to break in transit. Anyway...maybe you can find some locally near you back east.

I think I like the stock 02-05 sideskirts better. They're just as clean as the 9-2x skirts but they fit better.
What are you going to do with your stock silver ones?

That's cool. I respect that...everyone has their prefs. I personally think the WRX skirts are too boxy looking.

2004 WRX came with unpainted skirts. I sold them to someone on i-Club. And ran without sideskirts for awhile. Ran across these in a web search and couldn't pass it up.

I've been very busy lately and haven't had time to finish this project yet. I need to find someone with a heat gun or something to make the bend. Hopefully when things slow down I can finish it and post pics.

Wait I went back and read this thread again, it was said that it'd be easier on the MY06, does that mean there wont be the molding of the flap on an 06/07 model? Back when I started this thread I had a 2005, now I"ve got an 06/07 and if it'll fit better on this generation I"ll go out and get em right now
| DomozitoLK | 09-15-2008 03:43 PM |
I was speculating by what I've seen. I really have no idea since I still have my 2004 WRX sedan. I suggest you go find a set and do some measuring.
