Downloading...

Not bad :).

Loved the old footage.
subalou1 11-27-2004 04:51 PM

nice
Crashton 11-27-2004 05:11 PM

Very nice! I remember when that footage wasn't old. :D
mav1c 11-27-2004 09:04 PM

Great video...the editing was spectacular....but Stairway To Heaven? The second song was great...but Stairway to Heaven just did not go. IMHO.
subalou1 11-28-2004 02:17 PM

yeah stairway to heaven has to go imho also.
mike270 11-28-2004 05:13 PM

Awesome video :D
Crashton 11-28-2004 07:01 PM

I kind of liked that song "Stage Road to Heaven". ;)
baileypicks24 11-28-2004 09:53 PM

Great video. I enjoyed it :)
gjhsu 11-28-2004 11:04 PM

Does anyone know if there's a Pou 2004 video? After one each for the the last 3 years (or more), I really hope there's another one. Those are awesome.
Section 8 11-29-2004 02:59 PM

I really liked the beginning.

What I didn't like was the constant use of artistic licence through the rest of it. I don't have ADD, and 3 seconds or less for every shot gets really annoying with swirly colors and "jumping" images all over the screen.

Yes, but I don't know when.. I'm watching the 24 hours of video for the complete season right now and grabbing the good parts, so still a lot to do.

Regarding this video, I really liked the last part with the Guano Apes song but not really the first part. But the editing is really great and very well put together.

I wish my "artistic" side was more developped to have more special effects and nice editing like this in my videos!

Pou, don't do it! Your videos are great as is. I agree with Section 8 on this video, but it's still 1000% better than anything I could do!

Re-reading my post, it sounds a bit harsh.

I will elaborate a bit:

There was to much to fast. If they were to use all of the flashy graphic manipulation, I would like it done on longer clips, at least 5 or more seconds (at least show a complete out-in-out turn sequence when showing a car in a turn). If they were to machine gun clips, use less editing of them. You could easily do both in the same video. If you want to go crazy with the editing on short clips, do it during a particularly rambunctious set of bars in the music, it is an effective method of protraying energy, but is even more effective if you manage to have the subjects appear more or less in the same area of the frame and not "hit" all over making the viewer "search" for it amongst the "camoflage" of alot of editing (or alternatly blur everything but what you want the viewer to be looking at). Or possibly use very close up clips (parts of the cars for instance, possibly the same parts like a bunch of different wheels from all the cars, or just a bunch of clips of close ups of all kinds of things as the cars shoot past the camera would be effective for a short duration blitz.) Its a legitimate technique, just don't do it for for 3 minutes. The subject should be the individual subjects in the video, and not the ammount of editing blazing through the frames. For instance, the human eye is drawn to movement and/or light. THe movement should be the car through the shot, not an edited extra moving through the frame. Using a particularly bright edited extra that moves completly draws the eye away from the subject, and when the clip is a couple of seconds long, you might just miss the subject of the clip all together if it is moving around after your eye was attracted to the editing. If you have a neutral colored car, like the white cars, you can not use agressive colors like the reds/oranges/yellows flashing around the screen. You would use mellow colors like green or blue. If you have an electric green car, you can use brighter colors since the bright green is a more powerfull attention grabber than white.

I worship the WRC video compliation that was done to "In The End" by Lincoln Park. On occasion the subjects in the video actually match the words in the song. "It starts with one", a timer reaching 1 then zero as the car takes off fromt he start. "As the pendulum swings", a car doing a pendulm turn. Cars frequently jumping when the singer sings the word fly. One of the best videos I have seen and there is virtually no fancy editing int eh whole video.

I can fully appriciate the work going into the video either way. It sort of reminds me of the progression of HTML. Remember when with each version of software was able to recognize more complicated HTML/flash/Java? People went crazy with it in web page design, and now it has settled down with web designers limiting themselves to general themes instead of trying to integrate everything into one page, and generally making a page with so much on it that it is hard to navigate.

Greg

Pou, I really like your video's. No need to change your style, unless you want to. I'm sure whatever you do it will be top notch as always. Now a question for you. I lost your videos with a hard drive crash. Can you tell me where I can find them again?

Thanks,

Chuck :D

speedyHAM 11-30-2004 11:28 PM

I like it.
Jumpy 11-30-2004 11:59 PM

Nice. The filter used to make the footage look as if it was shot on old film was nice, but near the middle, it got a little over done. Things look great is sepia, but once again, don't let it get out of hand.

To whom ever did the editing work of this, excellent job at complex editing

Nice pick though.

Thanks!! The crasiest thing is that this was one of my first video and it went so well.. Never found another song like this after that..

For the videos, they are here:
2003: http://www.rallyplanet.com/index.php?pid=17966
2002: http://www.rallyplanet.com/index.php?pid=7795

The Linkin Park one, I just don't know where it's hosted anymore.. Probably just Google "wrc video pou" and you're surely going to find something...

I have your 2001 Linkin Park one hosted temporarily if anyone wants it.

As stupid as it sounds (I'm not a big Linkin Park fan), I actually thought Pou's video was the actual music video for that song :p

Pou, thanks for the links & yes Google is my friend. I have all your videos I believe with the exception of the 2001 CASC video. If anyone can point me to that one I'd be most grateful.

I had to think about it for a few seconds with a big stink eye when happenstance allowed me to see the Linkin Park video on MTV or where ever. I thought it very odd the whole time I watched it.

johnfelstead 12-02-2004 08:48 PM

it should have been the real video, it was an awesome piece of editing, far better than the "real" thing.
johnfelstead 12-02-2004 09:00 PM

haha, i used to meet that guy doing the road temperature reading at every rally.

Your videos are better pou. Stairway, denied! :D

I'll try to see if a can put the CARS (Canadian Championship) videos online without jeopardizing my bandwidth limit!

Have you seen the one for Pat Richard (2002 and 2003)? They are on his web site in the video clips section.

Only 4 WRC rallies to watch and I can finally begin editing...

cowapult 12-03-2004 07:05 PM

I feel like a bum for saying this... but I was not a fan of the video that started this thread. Pou, please don't go there. Sure, the art and special effects were spectacular, but I am a heathen who doesn't appreciate that stuff. What rally cars DO is already awesome. Special effects just prevent me from watching them - like that tall guy who sits in front of you at a movie theater. What makes Pou's video's the best in my mind is that he doesn't go crazy with that stuff. That's why a huge crowd gathers around my desk "ooh'ing and ah'ing" every year when Pou's video comes out.

Sorry, great work, but it's not my bag.
TV3WRX 12-04-2004 09:19 AM

I love Pou's videos. I like all the others too, no matter what the editing or music choice. These guys all do it just for fun and because they love rally, they get nothing for it. It's a little gift to the rally community. So it's pretty hard to be critical of any of them.
