The Argentina Rally Thread - talk about it here!! part 1

Rattler 05-09-2003 09:46 AM

The Argentina Rally Thread
I didn't see one started yet!!

Well, its only been 5 stages. Petter rolled on Stage 5 but isn't out!! Tommi is chomping at Gronholm's heels by mere seconds(2.3 sec.) and was the fastest on 6. Hopefully Tommi keeps it on the ground this year. They were talking to him on WRC Radio and he siad that was the worst wreck he has had in his career.
Rebellion 05-09-2003 11:08 AM

yeah.. tommi won both SS5 and SS6... gronholm isn't letting tommi catch him though.
Rattler 05-09-2003 11:17 AM

Go to the multimedia section at WRC and check out David Lapworth's look back at Possum Bourne. Very nice piece.
mykrrrr 05-09-2003 12:32 PM

Looks like Tommi is out/very far back because he's not in the top 10 of SS8.

Pat Richard is 11th overall in Grp. N and he got 9th in SS6.

Good to see Toshi Arai 1st overall in Grp. N as well.

Go Scooby Go.

Looks like gearbox problems, Makinen dropped to 10th from 3rd. Solberg is back up to 8th.

edit: guess the stage wasn't done yet, Makinen is way down there, Solberg up to 7th after SS9.
ShockWave 05-09-2003 01:58 PM

SS8 and SS9 resulted in problems for:

Gronholm
Martin
Makinen
McRae

If this keeps up, Tommi could end up cycling right back to the front of the field like Petter has!
Rattler 05-09-2003 06:16 PM

Day one is just about done and Gronholm isn't leader anymore. Carlos is. Petter is back up to 8th and still cutting some very fast times.. Colin decided to have another car BBQ it looks like too. Pat Richards is out due to mechcanical problems it said. Got to love the WRC dashboard!

Go "Hollywood" Solberg!!
WRXinWhite 05-09-2003 08:33 PM

Well it does not look to good, but it is only a first day. This rally usually claims a lot of victims, so a few more factory drivers tomorrow and a few good times, and Tomi will be ahead of all the N-cars in points position. And Petter? If he does not screw up he will finish 3rd. That is my prediction.
BTW did you see the new face of Ford showing the teeth, I thought it looks funny:

Looks like El Matador has got the bit between his teeth...GO CARLOS GO. Keep those Pugs off the top spot. :D

Pat Richard is out due to being time barred. They lost all drive and had to wire the diff to full lock to get going.

The Focus teeth are funny...so semi trucker. It's definitely got some speed that's for sure...finally. :D

Rattler 05-10-2003 03:32 AM

If the movie "Maximum Overdrive" was about cars, I think the Focus would play the lead.
mykrrrr 05-10-2003 03:37 AM

It'd have to be a menacing colour like flat black or something like that and not the gh3y RS livery it's got now. Too bad they don't have a different title sponsor...

-mykr.
Rattler 05-10-2003 03:43 AM

The guy I work with is a big Mark Martin fan. How about his sponsor? Viagra?

I liked the old Focus Martini piant schemes. You are right. The new ones do need some work. Just not red!!
mykrrrr 05-10-2003 08:33 AM

I never really cared for the Martini livery. I'd like to see the Ford blue RS livery back.

They need to find some title sponsor. IIRC, I thought they were getting new livery mid season.

They should try to get Yagermeister as title sponsor...ummmmm... Yager. :D

Rattler 05-10-2003 08:43 AM

That would be great! They could have a big mural of that guy making "the face"!!

I could salute them on occasion too.:D
dwx 05-10-2003 08:29 PM

Ok this is nuts.

I second the  !!

The only thing I have seen crazier is Robby Gordon with his Protruck at Glamis Dunes.
fengshui-fu 05-11-2003 09:33 AM

Even though Petter and Tommi are having a bad rally, Toshi Arai has made the top 10 and he is only racing PWRC!!

GO TOSHI :disco:

fengshui-fu 05-11-2003 11:48 AM

After all these years, Sainz is still a top competitor! If not for being EARLY 1M at a time control he would've won it. Why can't Makinen get his act back together? Do we need to play the Tommi Makinen Song again?

And most amazingly is Petter Solberg who can roll his car, right it again, and turn the 5th quickest time of the rallye. AMAZING! He could've won it all!

Who says you need to see the action to be a part of it? Rally Radio mixed with the Live Event Dashboard is more than enough, and they are even using scanner so you can hear the service park <-> driver radio traffic.

All in all a sweet rallye. Can't wait for Acropolis.

Rattler 05-11-2003 11:52 AM

Looks like another one for Marcus. At least Petter will get 5th.

They got some good video footage up at wrc.com now. The above Focus leap along with a few others on the same jump along with Colin's fire.
kotaro 05-12-2003 07:43 PM

I can't help myself, I need to brag around with this...although you probably won't care, Luis Ignacio Rosselot (a Chilean driver...probably the best rally driver in Chile) finished 6th in the N4 class in an evolution 6 :D :) :). He even got a pic in mitsubishi's oficial site! :p :D pic

He already did a test for top run (a good N4 world rally team), and he might race in the production wrc next year! :D
WRXinWhite 05-13-2003 07:04 PM

I know it is a few days past the Rally, but I still can't get over the Team's decision of withdrawing Tomi form the rest of the rally. He could have scored at least one point for the Constructor, instead it went to Ford driver by Mikko Hirvonen, so Ford is now 2 points ahead of Subaru. Subaru would have been tied with Ford after this event.
Dr. WOT 05-16-2003 02:47 PM

That was a great rally, some real excitement. Gronholm's charge on day 2 was inspiring, Burns is such a wanker in comparison. Even though it ended up as the same old result, it sure was a different route to get there.

Poor Carlos though, that was his event and he is amazing. How this guy continues to motivate himself at his age is a mystery to me. Plus he seems like a pretty upbeat postive guy.

Burns has been enjoying such good luck that it was bound to come to end, too bad for him it was on the final stage. He should be happy he still placed 3rd.

Martin is looking like a real threat in the new Focus, he could have easily won. Assuming they find more speed as they develop the car, it can be a real threat to the French domination.
mlambert 05-16-2003 02:56 PM

Yea they said on Speed that Tommi left early to go be with his newborn son, guess wrc isnt very exciting. They should fire him imo.

I felt bad for Carlos but I felt worse for Markkos bad luck. The focus shouldve won, it was so damn fast and those two jumps he pulled off were amazing. They have that virtual spectator thing on speed where they show all the cars on the track, everyone else slowed down right before that huge jump but he just left it floored. Good stuff!
Dr. WOT 05-16-2003 04:16 PM

Yes hitting that jump at speed was thrilling stuff, but at the end of the day he admitted that he didn't like it and that it shook him up for the rest of the stage. Chalk that up to youthful exuberance... Marcus was a good 20kph slower yet still managed to set a good time.

Firing Tommi would only be a good solution if there is someone else ready to set in who will do a better job.
Rattler 05-16-2003 04:29 PM

They also said Colin's Citroen BBQ started a 10 acre fire too.
akuhner 05-17-2003 09:46 AM

I missed it on SPEED! Anyone know when there is going to be a re-run?
Rattler 05-17-2003 11:57 AM

One good thing about digital cable!
I checked. It is listed for 10:00 PM Sat. and 3:00 AM Sun. I hope I remember to tape it this time!!

They show Marko Martin's jump quite a few times too.

What?!? HOW DARE HE? RALLY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OFFSPRING!!! Like you wouldn't do the same, given similar circumstances. You wouldn't use a newborn son as an excuse to leave work early on a day where you were getting nothing done?
mlambert 05-17-2003 08:33 PM

Fire him.
Rattler 05-17-2003 08:53 PM

Rumor has it that if Tommi goes after this year, Burnsie may be back in a Scooby next year.
