The Cusco hood baby! part 1

MK19 09-30-2003 12:17 AM

The Cusco hood baby!!!!!!!!
Well, I am the new official owner of a fantastically painted WRB Pearl Cusco vented hood. The paint shop did an outstanding job and the fitament was 100%!!! Here are a few preliminary pics:

Phil, yeah- looks like I might be. I KNOW it'd fit on your ride; or anyone else's for that matter. The fitament is no kidding 100%. My only issue is my Perrin short ram intake had to be adjusted cause it hit the hood vent cover and pushed the hood up a touch- that was easily remedied. Here's a few pics today:

any way to cover the holes over the air intake?

Oh yeah, if ya look at the underside pic, you'll see cut outs for the bolts that retain the fiberglass screen seals. Those baby's are also high quality as well- and they look nice. I am running without the covers to see the temp diff.- and yes, there's a good 10 to 12 degree drop in my avg. oil temp. I don't have water temp gauge yet- but I am working on it. Feel free to fire away at the questions- I know I did before I bought this bad boy ... and now I OWN it! :disco: :disco: :disco:
D-I-Z-Z-L-E 09-30-2003 03:32 PM

i just wish it came with a reverse scoop. like that other hood. i have a front mount so the scoop would be usless unless i mounted the oil or tranny fluid coolers on the firewall right behind the scoop. hmmm thats not a bad idea.
MAD REX 09-30-2003 04:50 PM

Hmmm.. looks kinda out of place on a wagon IMO

Too aggressive maybe?

Hey numbnuts;)

The seibon hood is cheaper than this hood and probably lighter too.....

My seibon hood is a few pounds lighter than the stock hood. Not by much but still. Whats holding you from getting the Seibon and just painting the CF?

:disco:
MK19 09-30-2003 05:22 PM

After speaking with the guys at AFS about the Seibon hood, I went back with my original thought- I mean, c'mon, I am a Cusco whore after all...
9o7wRx7o9 09-30-2003 05:24 PM

Yep got one of these myself :) Get nothing but compliments about it and since I'm the only one in AK with it then i am also easily recognized...unfortunately I spent a little bit more, paint jobs around here are not quite as friendly. :)
NC2.5RS 09-30-2003 07:06 PM

WOW!!!! Beautiful car man. Love that hood. Looks so sweet.

wow, thats a sweet looking hood bro...it looks like a good ole GC hood!
vile 09-30-2003 11:30 PM

how much was the final bill, hood, painted, everything

and where to buy one
Rice Boi 10-01-2003 02:48 AM

Wow, that looks pretty mean!
Do those vents cause any potential troble with water getting into the intake?
9o7wRx7o9 10-01-2003 02:51 AM

Nope, I have a Blitz SUS Intake filter and I haven't had any problems...stock air box has a lot more protection...and any CAI should reside in the fenderwell which is more dangerous then those vents :P

No, there are screen covers that have seals on the edge all the way around. Another thing is that as long as the car is under forward power, the water will be pulled up from the holes due to the vaccum being created there. This hood is way cool.
MK19 10-01-2003 08:28 AM

Mad props and special thanks to Adam at Z1 for hooking me up with this hood and shipping it out so damned fast!!!! :disco:
Z1 Performance 10-01-2003 12:23 PM

WOW is all I can say - thats the first one I have gotten to see on a car, and it looks really nice.

Very nice car you have there Damon!

Adam
MK19 10-01-2003 10:39 PM

Thanks Adam! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have this sweet lil number gracin' my ride...

Wow, over 800 views in 2 days- thanks guys/girls- glad you all are enjoying it! :) :D :) :D :)
MK19 10-02-2003 02:12 PM

Hood insulation???
OK, should I place my old underhood insulation on this hood? Obviously I have to cut it to fit, but should I do it? Is it gonna help? Hurt? Advice is now being requested from my peanut gallery of friends (Yes Nate, you can again be a smartarse... :p)
9o7wRx7o9 10-02-2003 02:20 PM

I didn't reinstall the insulation...hasnt had any effect on the underside of the hood, i believe that most of the heat escapes through the vents...if you have the vents closed it might be more of a problem...
MK19 10-02-2003 02:28 PM

I am running with my vents open mostly, unless weather decides otherwise- guess I'll leave it off until I hear a concrete reason for using it.
9o7wRx7o9 10-02-2003 02:51 PM

I live in Alaska and have my vents open all the time...especially since it's turning into winter we get a whole bunch of rain, it's been raining for like a week straight and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Yeh unfortunately there arent many of us with the hood, so it's still trial and error for us haha.

I looked around for companies which sold this hood for some time- didn't know that Z1 could get it!!

What's the availability like right now?
Z1 Performance 10-02-2003 07:35 PM

Not sure if we have another one or not in stock - I could ahve sworn it was just the 1 last time, but I'll ask tomorrow.

And of course we can get it, as Kopf knows, we have tons of everything Cusco!

I paid $1150 all total (shipped, painted, etc.), weights about 15 lbs with everything on it, a touch heavier than stock, but the cooling is worth it- around 8 degrees. It is made of fiberglass. I got it from Adam at Z1 Performance!!
Kickz107 11-15-2003 07:11 PM

Wow, I want one of those soooo bad! :D
